nemesiscorps
Why is it referred to as "toast"? Isn't it amazing how something so traditional can be around for so long in this niche activity and still be somewhat of a mystery, even to living legends? The motion and pose resembles when one is "toasting" someone or something with a beverage in hand, as in a toast to the bride and groom at a wedding reception. The question is, why is that glass lifting gesture referred to as a "toast"?

I know it's not me because I still take out my own garbage cans to the curb.
ouooga
I've seen the toast in some 1970's scv shows. Last time I saw it prior to this past summer was 2007: baritone doing toast at the end of Eureka! 2008 SCVC did it at the end of their show as well. Before that it was in 2004, during the Vanguard yell. I don't think they did it in 05 or 06, right?
JGuy1288
Toast was in SCV '07, too. At the very end, the baritone player at the tip of the exclamation point turned frontfield and did it on the last count of the show.
3rd_Star_Brigade
My DCI World DVD just came in and I watched this show first. The company front gives me MUCHO chills everytime. Might rival Star '90 finale, Madison '99 Perc Feature into the never-ending chord progressions, or Boston 2000's ballad. ####### ######. bass5
When I think of a SCV toast I think of Sanford and Royer mixing a drink in the parking lot (and usually mixing it with ice only).

OdeToArsenal47
The question is, why is that glass lifting gesture referred to as a "toast"? From wikipedia, The word 'toast' became associated with the custom in the 17th century, based on a custom of flavoring drinks with spiced toast. The word originally referred to the lady in whose honor the drink was proposed, her name being seen as figuratively flavoring the drink. The more you know.
