SPRING PREVIEW 2010 -- Saturday, May 8

Recommended Posts

I received an e-mail with a bunch of show info from the Preview's esteemed chairperson.

So, having the opportunity to look at all this information in advance, I'm ready to go.

You've all been warned. :tongue:

Warning heeded. You have two days to perfect your jokes, Fran.

Oh, wait, Rome was not built in two days...let's not get our hopes up! :tongue:

Seriously, Fran's an excellent emcee and adds a special touch to the show. Looking forward to it!!!!

Two days!

I've just gotten a new pair of very dark lensed sunglasses Fran, so your attire will no longer blind me

One day to go! I can sense the corps getting ready to hit the road and get to Reading (well, Elverson, PA to be specific). Fran is busy trying to figure out what kind of batteries he will need for his shirt. Jimmy, Lou & Jerry have been slaughtering turkeys for the performers' dinner. All the pieces have been put into play!

The show has a great line up of corps - something for everyone for sure and all of them eager to present their 2010 Show to a great audience. Get there early for the best seats.

It's Spring Preview time!!! :tongue:

One day, indeed!!! Can't wait!

If you've been around the Reading Buccaneers over the last 6 years, you know just how much Dan Long and the Twin Valley HS community mean to us. Not only is Dan a fantastic music educator and an advocate for drum corps and the Bucs, he marched alongside his son in 2004. We're proud to call him a fellow Buccaneer and equally proud to call him our friend and advocate. The Spring Preview is one of the ways we get to say thank-you to Dan and Twin Valley for their role in making us successful as an organization. And, as Fran has mentioned, it's a GREAT venue for an indoor show and a wonderful evening of drum corps music is in store.

So join us - in thanking Dan and Twin Valley and in a fantastic evening of music-making!

That's right Dan. After we pluck and dress those cluckers, we're headed down to the farmers field at the bottom of the hill that the school sits on to line up the cows for the Cow Tipping Contest!!

In about 25 hours, the Balance in Blue will unveil its 2010 musical program to the public for the first time. There's the obligatory face-peeling-back moments, the obligatory awesome percussion licks, the obligatory gorgeous ballad melody and build to an incredible hit, the obligatory spirited push to the end and the obligatory goosebumps. So that's not changed! What's new -- drama....imagery....time and place....Respighi -- as never before done by the corps. The music is fantastic and fans will love it. Get a special sneak (Spring) preview tomorrow night! In 23 to 25 hours, you'll also be entertained thoroughly by some of the best alumni and mini-corps music out there, with some of Fran Haring's antics thrown in for good measure.

What a better way to celebrate Spring and to honor Mom? Mother's Day...drum corps style. At Twin Valley HS. Don't miss it!

See you tomorrow!

Last night's Spring Preview was a smashing success, and all fans were treated to an incredible array of fantastic music and the energy and enthusiasm that filled the place.

On behalf of all us in the Reading Buccaneers organization, I would like to thank the following:

  • event chairperson Lumelle Schneeweis, who once again coordinated many details, large and small, with skill, grace and good humor, and her family for going the extra mile;
  • Dan Long and the Twin Valley School District, for providing an excellent venue for this event and for providing years of invaluable support to the Buccaneers, the maintenance team at the High School for its assistance in putting all of this together and the culinary crew for once again serving up an awesome turkey dinner;
  • Fran Haring, who put his unique oratory and fashion style on this event yet again, and whose enthusiasm for our activity is infectious;
  • the dozens of volunteers who gave of their time and talent to ensure the event was a success, be it assisting corps, selling tickets, running a shuttle, selling food and souvenirs, cleaning -- you name it, this event takes more volunteers than you'd imagine and we are grateful to each of you for your assistance;
  • Reading Eagle Company and WEEU, for their sponsorship and support;
  • Berks Arts Council, for its support in promoting the event;
  • members of the Yankee Rebels, Brassmen, Selden Cadets, Swing House, Buccaneers Alumni, Reilly Raiders and Steel City Ambassadors, who collectively shared their hundreds of years of performance experience and boundless passion and enthusiasm with our guests and gave us one helluva show;
  • the fans who filled the Twin Valley auditorium and who clapped, cheered, and supported all of the performing units; and
  • the 2010 Reading Buccaneers competing corps, who dazzled the crowd with the first public installment of ROME. The design and instructional staff has put together an incredible program, and last night's performance served notice that drum corps fans are in for a real treat this summer. Many of you performed in the Buccaneers uniform for the first time last night, and the look of pride and satisfaction on your faces after the performance was inspiring and motivating!

The good work continues today in getting this beast of a program on the field.

Upcoming performances for the Balance in Blue:

  • Monday, May 31 - Mohnton PA Memorial Day parade (kicks off 9 a.m.), followed by FREE community concert given by the Buccaneers at the Mohnton community ball fields.
  • Sunday, June 6 - halftime performance at the Berks County All-Star Classic football game, at Albright College's Shirk Stadium
  • Sunday, June 13 - our annual Friends & Family Day open house dress rehearsal at Buc Field
  • Saturday, June 19 -- WILDWOOD!!!

Again, on behalf of all of us in the Buccaneers -- THANK YOU!!!!

What Tom said....... a good night at Twin Valley, for sure.

Even though by the end of the night, the weather outside had turned from "Spring Preview" to "Winter Preview" conditions....LOL... thank God this show was indoors!!!!

I cannot thank the Bucs and Twin Valley folks enough for their help at this show. Lumelle and her army of volunteers, Rick and the rest of the backstage crew, John on the lighting and sound board....all were great to work with, as usual!
