cabalumnidrummer
Great contest! I went to that show as an impressionable 16 year-old, and it solidified my desire to march in a senior corps some day. I always thought it would be Sun, but fate had a different path in store for me. No regrets! I also played that record for hours and hours on end once it came out. Edited June 1, 2011 by cabalumnidrummer

This was definitely Sun's "coming out" party ... and had it not been for a fine showing by the I-men they would have bested them in addition to Reading ... indeed a fine show ... and the Jr. portion wasn't too shabby either! :-)

Enjoy! So ... there's some activity in another thread naming well known instructors covering this era (1964) ... I thought it would be a nice exercise to list the instructors for the above corps (at least, what I think I know): Corps: Horns Drums M&M Hurcs: Genero, Don Freising, Condon & Woods Sky: Dreitzer, Perrilloux, Shur I-men: Dom DelRa, Jack Pratt, ??? Sun: Sasso, Orus Cavnor, ???? Reading: Ferrara, Flowers, Bud Johnston Marksmen: Dom DelRa, Earl Sturtze, ??? Archie: Rip Burnett, Billy Kaufman, ??? Les Dips: ?????, Michel Létourneau, ????? CT Yankees: Dick Burns, Earl Sturtze, Bob Herman Whalers: Genero, ????, ???? Fill in the blanks and correct me on any goofs!!!! :-) Edited June 1, 2011 by ajlisko

And Les Dips drum instructor, wasn't it Michel Boulanger? Ray

gsksun4
From what I've read on Suns site, Vinny Ratford took over the drill chores in 65. Jack Dobson and Joe Mason were early 60's. They don't say exactly when. Iron Lips would know for sure who did the drill in 64. Edited June 2, 2011 by gsksun4

I'm fairly sure that Dobson was not with Sun by 64 ... did Cal Dennison (sp) ever teach drill there? :-)
RayH
Boo, to the 64 World Open - Jrs. One of the most political shows I've ever witnessed. (Just ask Vinnie Ratford, if that were possible.) Prelim show had more rigging than a yatch club.
