Welcome to DCPI Times Season 16 Article 2!

We said the East was going to get a little more attention this week and boy did it starting off in Nashua NH! The former BEAST OF THE EAST and now maybe the new south champion, The Knights came home in style as their show The Legend of Lake Murray finally came together. The large Maine crowd seemed to be very pleased with the old favorites and classics sprinkled through the show. The corps upended Renegade Brigade by nearly a point. However the Brigade pulled off a fantastic visual show that truly connected with the judges! The Knights then went on to a smaller, yet still important competition in Montreal to entertain their sister corps, les Blanc Chevalier’s home crowd.

In Europe the Stud Bolts seemed a little stunned that Crimson Eagle Regiment came in and wowed the crowds and judges. The defending champs however were right on their heels as the corps finished tenths from each other. Stud Bolts strong in music, but Crimson taking GE and visual! Crimson finished off the week touring Germany and Austria on their own as Stud Bolts headed back to the US!

Before Knights pulled back together they were getting STOMPED in their new home state of South Carolina. Fort Mill paid off big for Quilt who has an amazing music presence, but Ohio Valley Thunder’s strong GE kept them right in the mix. Treasure Coast Gold got a few people to stand up and take notice placing third. Birmingham was the place to be Thursday as some great old powerhouses went head to head. In the end Nastalgia Vanguard was able to just edge out Star of Jupiter and Tennessee Nipples. Vanguard was a visual spectacle to see, while Star and Nips had the musical power.

Out west Colorado held for two interesting contests over the holiday weekend. In Denver the NINNIES took the show by storm having held strong in the west, but Minnesota Madness and Black Regiment certainly turned on the heat. Two days later Minnesota Madness had a few fireworks of their own as they up ended the NINNIES, but look out here came Elite Brigade to take the show by nearly a full point!

We said the Midwest was the place to be this week and BOY WAS IT! True FDCI fans were treated some amazing shows and great corps battling it out night after night. Evansville was kind of the kick off with Quiksilver coming off a southern tour of dominance and remaining strong taking the show from Crimson Lions and Purple Mountain Majesty. But then in Grand Rapids we flip that and Quiksilver drops to FOURTH! Quilt now coming in strong with those southern winds takes the lead just edging out Purple Mountain Majesty who remained very solid. The Rangers also snuck in there ahead of Quiksilver. This all built us up to the SHOW OF THE WEEK, the FANFARE CHAMPIONSHIPS! Did we tell you Knights of Power would start putting on the heat? AND DID THEY! Knights of Power proving why they are a previous world Champion rockets past the other corps to solidly take the Gold on their own! It created a raucous as this CLASS corps wins the rival organizations FANFARE title! The Crimson Lions who were the top pick for the show dropped to 14th! Quiksilver who at the time was in second managed to hold a little stronger at 4th and not by much. Elite Brigade who had already shown some early season success did very well in their Midwest tour taking the bronze and Renegade Brigade who we didn’t even see coming down Highway 94 at all took the silver! That was an amazing show for this corps! Polaris Regiment and Star of Jupiter still needed a little more octane in their gas!

What do we have coming up this week? The East has a few shows in Mass and Rhode Island before gearing up for the East Prelims and Finals. With the Knights gone south, the East Championship is a little more open this year. It looks to be a burn out between Quilt and Purple Mountain Majesty, but heck other corps are coming on strong just when it counts! This includes Les Blanc Chevalier from Division II who could just best all of the Division I corps at the show. The corps is second in Division II leader board and would be #9 in Division I currently. Quilt however shot to the top with an 82.3 in Salt Lake! This looks like the eastern corps to beat this year!

The European Championships on Saturday have Feenicks and Crimson Eagle Regiment going head to head.

Out west Las Vegas will play a small but strong group of corps vying for the West Championships! California Knights haven’t competed since 6/23 so who knows where they will jump in. However the Elite Brigade sitting high in the top 12 certainly is looking to hold onto favored status to take the title.

In the Midwest Rosemont seems to be the warm up for corps heading to DeKalb as 11 corps via for the Midwest Championships. Caprice is currently back on top of the overall leader board and would be favored to win, but the Rangers and Quiksilver are all right on their heels. Looks like it will be one great finals!

In the South we continue to have some smaller shows packed full of fierce competition. Columbus, Spartanburg and Charlotte get all the corps ready for the big show down in Winston-Salem. Right now Knights, Knights of Power and Tennessee Nipples have all been neck and neck and likely will shift positions back and forth in these last few days. However with Star of Jupiter and Avengers in the mix who knows. Confederate Regiment has been posting up some great numbers and could draw off the upset.

And now this weeks power poll ratings going into the weekend!

The Knights at #1 with 11 votes (1-first place vote)

Carpice and Elite Brigade tied #2 with 10 votes (Caprice 2 first place votes and Elite 1)

Knights of Power in #4 spot with 7 votes

Quiksilver and Renegade Brigade tied in 5th with 6 votes

Quilt #7 with one #1 vote and 5 votes

Rangers #8 with 4 votes

Tennessee Nipples #9 with 3 votes

And tied at 10th with one vote each Confederate Regiment and Purple Mountain Majesty.

Good luck to all in regional championships this weekend from the staff at DCPI!!!
