Michael Boo
Lauren Vogel Weiss asked me to post the following on DCP: Marty's memorial services were very moving... over 200 drummers played during the visitation on Tuesday night (the Brother Martin HS drum line, plus LSU, USM, ULL and the Regiment Alumni). And there were probably more than 1000 people there. During the mass on Wednesday morning, John Wooton and Marty's brother Jimmy played snare drum (along with Marty's stepson on bass and assistant band director on fife). Here is the Facebook link. Start at the bottom and work your way up - that's slightly more chronological. The videos are marked "public." 3rd Glasgow BB
Even though I haven't been on a field for more that 20 years I can still remember how to play the cadences he taught us.
cavies79
I think it is due time for Marty to be inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame. I still cannot believe he has never been inducted. Come on DCI and put a well deserving Marty Hurley in the Hall.
caviepit85
I thought Marty was already in the Hall of Fame! Well he should definitely be in. Growing up in southern Louisiana and playing in the championship UL-Laf drum lines of the mid 80's, Marty was such an huge influence for all members of those lines. It was a honor knowing him and he will be missed tremendously.
