3-valve coversion?

I'm currently have a valve/rotor Olds Ultratone Contra, probably early to mid-90's vintage and in great shape. Being fairly new to this forum, I apologize if this has been covered before, but I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to convert this over to a 3-valve horn? Thanks in advance --Rich

Zig Kanstul came up with the EXACT conversion you're looking for...call the Kanstul plant. Don't know if they still make it, though. I think it ran about $1000 back in the early 90s.

BTW...your Ultratone is NOT 90s vintage...more like 70s! Olds stopped making G bugles before King did, and that was in the 80s...

Sam's right. In the early '90s, let alone the mid-'90s, we played three-valved horns. What you have there is a piece of history. Why convert it?

And for $1000 you could have a new 3 valve and keep your V-R horn as well

Wow - I've really been looking at the wrong sites - where can I find a 3-valve for $1000? Everything I've seen has been at least $5K - and the last time I spent bucks that large was for my Tuba - a Meinl-Weston 25.

I only guessed '90s' because the Ultratone is in such good shape, and because the only other Contras Ive played were baby Getzens, while I was in Garfield and in an attempted (but failed) Cadets alumni corps. This horn plays really well and since I play Tuba a lot more than Contra, I just think that I'd be a whole lot more comfortable playing a 3-valve. --Rich
