ForeverMello
I see in the DEG catalog that they are selling a brand of mouthpiece called the "Wayne Downey State of the Art" mouthpiece. Anyone know anything about them? They are pretty pricey...with starting list prices over $200. They are also selling valve oil under his name.... ForeverMello
LOL....no not stolen...bought the horn from a corps I marched with that folded. When The Blue Devils bought new uniforms.....I think when they briefly became the "Black Devils"...they offered up for sale the old uniforms to those that wore them....... Blaringbrass
That kinda pisses me off. Why in the world do they need to seel the mouth pieces for 200 bucks? I believe they arent even gold plated as well. I wanted to get me one, but no way in heck do i have that kind of money.
ECJ3055
You're paying for the name not the mouthpiece.
Blaringbrass
Yes Wayne Downey is quite prominent in the drum corps world. Yes he is also one of the best arrangers of our time, but his name alone on a mouthpiece will not, ever make me want to buy one just because of that. spcbrass
Guess again....Wayne has done a lot for the development of both brass instruments and moutpieces. He helped to develop the Kanstul g horns as well as completely revamped the dynatsy line both G & Bb. Bottom line is the guy knows what he is doing. Although I woul dprobabl ynever play the mouthpiece, I woul dlike to give it a try. I have worked hard to get the sound I desire on my current mouthpiece. Some poeple think you are buying just a name, but knowing Wayne personally I can say for sure that you are also getting a great product. Why else would his hornlines use them? DoubleHighEZ
Why else would his hornlines use them? Shawn, BD's trumpets were playing on CG3s and modified 3Cs when I saw them @ Precision West. The CG3 is the same mouthpiece that the sops played on when I marched in 1980! I never liked that mouthpiece, and was actually the only one who didn't play on one. Instead, I had a custom mouthpiece made to look like a CG3 on the "outside". ^0^
Blaringbrass
Oh yeah I agree, I'm sure that the mouthpiece is of quality and is good for the hornline. I too would like to try it but that is now difficult because its 200 bucks.

Yeah i think Jeff Lynn isn't playing on a CG3 this year either, it looks kinda like a Bach mouthpiece or simmilar, but i could be way off.
