This year there were five offerings that set the pace for the activity and that laid the groundwork for contemplation, research, creativity, and instruction for the off-season. THE GRID My brow noticed the HIGHS AND LOWS, of the Oh-Yes'es and the Oh-No's of the Summer Season ... and now THE TOP 25 DRUM CORPS SHOWS OF THIS HALF-DECADE What have been the THE TOP 25 SHOWS OF THIS HALF DECADE? Which shows made the cut as "signature signature shows"? The Elite 8 represent performances and shows that display a "leading edge," and the Final Four, with a runner-up and winner, "set industry standards" in that particular year and for the future of the activity. The strength of the 2005 Cadets wasn't just how well they performed, it was equally amazing what they were performing. Man did you miss the mark on that one. 2005 Cadets don't get enough respect. It could be a while before we are treated to a corps as good as the 2005 Cadets. I also don't get all the hype about 2005 Phantom Regiment. 2005 was the most uninteresting offering from this corps for many years. It was totally lacking in depth, musical variety (the entire show was a variation on the same melody for Gods sake!) and the deep wonderful sound I have become so used to with Phantom. The guard was bordering on tacky with the Las Vegas showgirl costume, and the guy wondering arround the field (supposed to be Gene Kelly?) was silly and not well thought out. The 2005 offering didn't even come close to the brilliance of the 2003 Phantom Regiment, now there was a show worthy of much hype.

The 2005 Phantom Regiment were, hands down, the crowd favorite from coast to coast this year. No other Corps came close. The applause they got when their score was announced at DCI Finals made the announcer have to stop before he could anounce the next score as he correctly concluded that he would not have been heard over the din had he proceeded. So he waited until the thunderous applause stopped. That said, there were surely a handful of people at DCI like yourself that felt the 2005 Phantom Regiment was " uninteresting " compared to earlier Phantom offerings. It just demonstates that when it comes to personal likes and tastes, not everyone has the same likes nor dislikes. And if they did, how boring that would be. TuoKaerf
At least Regiment had a well thought out and paced show, Cadets seemed like disjointed segments. It was played extreamely well, but horrible show design.
Mick Krackin'
Fascinating look at the big picture and recent trends. The Grid is most intersting. How much time do you spend putting all of this together?
