2007- 35TH DCI Anniversary

Recommended Posts

Retro equpiment might be cool-can anyone jazz run with a marching timpani???

What about starting a show in the "old style" with a march from end-zone to end-zone, then add a previously-hidden pit and some guard dance moves in the middle, then some amped stuff at the end. I would think the GE would be high for any corps that can successfully do this without making it cheezy.

With the DCI classic shows and all the downloads and DVDs available, more younger people then ever are discovering the older shows and would recognize some of the songs, drill, and guard moves. The first live shows I went to at the age of 5 were cool, but I don't remember much :)

Wanna go retro? How about just bring in a list of drill maneuvers that have to be accomplished by ALL The corps during their shows? Like company fronts, mirror drill moves (side 1/2), Percussion have to march up and down the 50 while playing and can only leave the area if they are NOT playing. That would certainly add to the retro idea!

How so? None of those were required moves, so why mandate them now? How is it 'retro' to mandate things that were not required in the first place?

How about we keep the Retro Songs from since DCI was created, but have the drill as after 1981 (or whenever 90% of corps used Aymmetrical(sp?) Drill). Like a progress from the first asymmetrical(sp?) drill movements up to what Cavaliers and Cadets pull off nowadays. Now THAT would be cool....

Just a thought...

Don't mandate the manuvers, just to them out of tradition!!! some of the people here seem to have forgotten what that was. I think it's a great idea, the only problem is that it would have to be a top 5 corps in order for it to work, other wise the show will get slammed!!!

These are all good ideas - especially '84 Blue s. However, what you WILL see at DCI 2007 is the return of the Anaheim Kingsmen (Alumni Corps) going on last at semi-finals, honoring the 35th anniversary of their winning the first DCI Championship.

Yes and they will be playing their 1972 repertoire. Can't wait!
