"Autumn Leaves" for Bloooo, "You'll never walk alone" for the Scouts, "Danny Boy" for 27.....the list is long. Sometime they're played and sometime they're sung, but they have a special meaning that strikes the heart of everyone who sings, plays or hears it. :) Conquest is not Crusaders Corps Song. Conquest is a song that Crusaderts played alot. The Corps song is the song they sing before every show. This isnt me trying to flame, just letting you know that Conquest is not considered the corps song. I could swear that I heard Conquest in the show this year...a lone trumpet plays it at the end of one of the tunes, backfield...very quietly and serenely. Am I the only one that heard that, or am I hearing things? Yes the melody from Conquest was heard in the show this year. As Boston was leaving the field, I asked them, "Hey, when are you guys going to play 'Conquest' again, huh? 'Conquest'?" Hey Keith, no they don't have retreats anymore at regular shows so no one plays anyone off the field like we used to do... :( One of the things I miss...oh well.. I don't mean to disrespect the talent they had back then but the last decade or so of BAC has had what it takes to get into finals, and I'm sure they could do it with Conquest in the program. I'd love to hear it again, and nobody else could do it (Blue Stars did a good job of it in '73 tagged on to El Cid, but it's got to be BAC....). To play Conquest in a rip your face off rendition instead of a brief quiet reflective echo of it with the theme " Cathedrals of the Mind " would indeed be a ridiculous thing to do. Fact: Madison Scouts played it as their field warm-up in 2002..... and they didn't make Finals...... There is that lone soprano moment back field yes, but isn't also hinted at throught out the back half of the program? I haven't seen the show in many weeks though...
