JohnD
Good morning and welcome to DCP's live 'coverage' from the Alumni Spectacular. The weather is mostly dry and temps in the upper 50's. I can hear Ace Holleran introducing the color guard ...... and we're off! Kevin is here to provide updates from the pressbox - and I'll try to snap a few pictures to share along the way. Enjoy! kevingamin
Y'know, the nice thing about no rain and wind? I can actually sit where I can see the field. I am watching the Erie Thunderbirds as they warm-up on the field. They just came on the field playing their street beat, a very familiar beat for me as I've marched to it a couple times. Jeff Gibbens, lead soprano and arranger for the Thunderbirds, is taking the hornline through it's paces right now.
kevingamin
Donny Allen is the T-Birds drum major. Very nice.
kevingamin
What a sound!!!! THe corps is opening with Artistry in Rhythm. Hornline is very powerful, yet exhibits a tone quality you usually find in the competitive level of DCA.
kevingamin
THE corps is just letting it all hang out, and no wonder. No judges, just the fans. It's all about the emotion here.
kevingamin
Now Erie is playing a medley of patriotic tunes and the themes of the various armed forces.
kevingamin
Very nice sound from the mellophones. Ahh, color presentation, right on the 50.
kevingamin
Looks like they got an actual AL/VFW unit to provide the colors for their show. Nice touch.
kevingamin
I don't know the piece they're playing now and, unfortunately, I can't seem to get to Corpsreps.com right now. Wow, whoever's soloing on baritone is just wailing away but not a hint of crassness in his tone, something which I'd have a problem with trying to play that loud. kevingamin
Jeez, the end of that song just got even louder!
