toddschultz
I was just on the Pioneer homepage and saw that they are playing among other pieces music of Gustav Holsts's suites, Irish Washer Woman, etc. I think this could be a great year for them, especially with the staff they are starting to get on board, and the return of Mike Madonia as a consultant. I am looking forward to them!

megan_marie15
From the Pioneer website, News From The Top dated Tuesday, November 17th... The results of this design meeting produced the following 2007 Pioneer Production: " THE FIELDS OF GREEN" 1) Gustav Holst Suite...A solid brass introduction that drives in a march tempo that has an overlay of Kerry Dancers and Greensleeves. 2) Rakes of Mallow....an upbeat, fast paced and undoubtedly Irish folk tune. 3) Dark Tide / Washer Woman...from the movie, "The Gangs of New York" and a traditional Irish melody, "The Irish Washer Woman." It will be arranged with sort of a Cuban, African percussion feel to counter the Washer Woman melody. This original arrangement is designed to stir the imagination of the audience. 4) Minstrel Boy....written in a symphonic style has a flowing melody, full of emotion in which one can imagine the full Guard with a flag display that radiates nothing less than warm feelings of contemplation. 5) Variations on Gary Owen...Imagine the symphonic flow of the previous piece into Gary Owen building into a crescendo of accelerated tempo and instrumental dynamics that (you guessed it!) will cause a spontaneous response of the audience to leap to a standing ovation with joy and applause! 6) A return to the Holst Suite gives the impression that the show is ending. However, we return to the driving pace of the march in the opener that is similar to a reprise in a Broadway musical with a driving, upbeat no holds barred turbo-type ending that will leave the crowd remembering Pioneer as they leave the stands humming some melody all of the way home!
