I Dream a Dream

Recommended Posts

I Dream a Dream of time when DRUM CORP is UNITED. I dream of a time when the true meaning of the activity comes together of Friends, Family, and the Joy Performing. I dream of a time that I can march on a field next to my fathers, my mothers, my brothers, and my sisters. I Dream of a time when there is equal opportunity for all corps to succeed, not by defeat but by having the opportunity to perform. I dream of a time when there is an organization that helps support and maintain the activity not destroy and limit its possibilities.

Interesting fact:

Since the organization of Modern Drum Corp was created in the 70's there have been

-1,235 Junior Drum Corps

-627 Senior Corps

-228 International corps.

For more info check out: http://www.corpsreps.com/corpslist.cfm

What has happened to this activity? Where have all the Drum Corps Gone? I have heard stories of the glory days in the 70's & 80's when there were drum corps everywhere. However, due to lack of support and funds one Drum Corp after another have failed to exist. Why does an elite group of executive dictatorship control what happens? Whoever this guy that posted Drum Corp People Are Stupid is the ignorant one.

http://www.soulcast.com/post/show/35160/Dr...ople-Are-Stupid

I will not STFU! As this guy said "it is sad that is has to come to this, but the politics of the DCA Uncle Tom Network will never change no matter who is in charge. Look at how its officers are appointed...once you are in office you stay until you are dead." Sounds like a socialist dictatorship to me. We live in a democracy and that is what it should be. If that is what the network of DCA is and it won’t change then its time to BRING IT DOWN! However, for now don’t give into the control.

I will not accept defeat. I will not give in to a minority control of the majority. Drum Corp is about the blood, sweat, and tears you put into a show all year. It’s about going to rehearsal when you don’t want to. It’s about sacrifice. It’s about dedication. It’s about continueing and giving it all when you have nothing left. If it was easy what would the accomplishment be?

Drum Corp is my heart and it will pump the love of the activity through my veins until I die. It keeps me going when I feel I have nothing left in life. It’s the friendships that have turned into family. I march Drum Corp for the Thrill of Performing. There isn’t a greater satisfaction then walking onto a field with stadium full of people cheering! It’s for that indescribable amazing feeling you get looking up at the crowd as adrenaline that flows through your vanes waiting to hear those words “you make take the field in competition!”

Why does all this have to end? Why does it have to stop when your 21? Why does expanding the network of all age corps have to be difficult? I ask all of you young and old, why do/did you march Drum Corp? What does the activity mean to you? What is the true meaning of the activity? I can tell you one thing it’s not a gold ring! Stand up for what you believe in, for the longevity of the activity, for what is right, stand up for Drum Corps, for Drum Corps that are United!

*I post this as an advocate for Drum Corp not under any representation of any particular Corp.

Is this what you were all talking about? I read it too.

There I said it! If any of my drum corps friends happen to stumble accross this blog and are offended then that is your own fault. If you don't know who I am and do drum corps and happen to stumble accross this article and are offended, it's your own fault too. Now with that said...a rant...

For you DCI folks out there this isn't too big of a deal, but for you DCA folks it might be. First and foremost STFU people! I have heard enough whining and conspiracy theory stories that everyone is out to get your particualr corps for whatever reason. For those that feel everyone is out to get you, here is a wake up call...EVERYONE IS! The name of the game is prolonging the life of your particualr organization so that one day you can be the circuits World Champion and you can go brag to all of your drum corps buddies about how great you are. That's it. It really is that simple. Championships have built corps up and torn them down just as quickly. It just the name of the game. You have to deal with it and move on. The deck is stacked strongly in favor of a certain conglomerate of corps based in the NE. GET USED TO IT! It always has been and always will be. Equally ironic is how that conglomerate of corps will do whatever it can to undermine the growth of the corps within the conglomerate. If you think what goes on behind closed doors at DCA meeting is awful then you should see what happens between those meetings. It is about as cut throat of an activity as you'll find out there. A few of the younger organizations to the activity are just begining to experience that. Welcome to the party, try to stay afloat, your evaluation period is over, now survive on your own. If you stay the conglomerate wins...if you go the conglomerate wins. You've already lost don't you see? Yes it is sad that is has to come to this, but the politics of the DCA Uncle Tom Network will never change no matter who is in charge. Look at how it's officer's are appointed...once you are in office you stay until you are dead. Sorry folks reading this is a harsh and literal reality. If you are offended, then it is your own fault. But it is how the Good Old Boys have always and will always remain in charge of the circuit.

That's it...it's all I have to say...I honestly hope that someone stumbles upon it from DCA.

I may even leak it out...

(bows to Shawn Carpenter for not only acknowledging the 500 lb elephant in the room that no one else wants to recognize is there, but for walking up to it and punching it in the face.) Good stuff bro...see you on the battlefield in 2007!

31 views...guess my leak was successful!

Rereading my post here I wan tto apologize if I came accross as a bit condesending, after all we Brigadiers can do that from time to time. But this does not represent the views of my drum corps...in fact I don't even know what their views are. They are finally getting an orginization back toegther after nearly falling apart every year since 2004. But enough about that.

I think DCA is a complete joke. It's a BS circuit which structure is lost somewhere in the stone age. I have been on winning and losing sides of BS championships. The goal or motivation of the organization is to put money in the pockets of the haves and take it from the have nots. The new blood that came in brought with it popularity and revenue...now they think they can survive on their own. Stay tuned I'll leak out a thing or two that happened just a few short years ago...provided I don't get caught, flambayed and hung somewhere!Comment on "Drum Corps People Are Stupid"

Interesting fact: Since the organization of DCI, the grassroots drum corps activity has died! But alas, someday soon IT (DCI) will die too. You can't cut of the head and expect the body to live!
