10 Commandments for Drum Corps Parents

Recommended Posts

I also remember my wife and I had a pledge to each of our children...if you don't quit by March 1, you are in drum corps for the entire summer. The corps is depending on you and they need notice if you don't plan to march. After March 1, you belong to the corps.

I completely agree. During "hell week" in her rookie year I received a few "This isn't what I thought it would be. I'm miserable. Please let me come home" calls. I had to remember the advice other DC parents gave and and to listen, console, sympathize and tell her "You don't have to do this next year but you made a committment so finish what you started."

Im betting with move ins going on that there are a few other parents getting the "I'm miserable calls" Keep the faith, guys. Listen and then hang up and remember -- the real tour starts next weekend for most of them. Everydays are tough but once they get on the road the fun begins and everydays becomes a distant memory. Three days to preview, six days to the first competition! Let's go!
