gellio
Favorite Beethoven's:2--quintessential 'classical' symphony--got bored so he started a revolution 3--who needs an Emperor when you've got the Master? 4--LOVE the beginning of the 1st mvmt--the dark side of B's psyche 5--of course 9--never played it, but it's a blast singing!! With your grandparents!! You didn't ask for all of that, but there it is. Oh, I have the strange urge to check out Radiohead now... No, no, no Beethoven's 6th is the best. I regard the first movement as one of the reasons why life is worth living. The beauty and passion of the 6th rises above all his other symphonies, IMO.....but that first movement is truly as beautiful as symphonic works get. I'd also take the 3rd, 7th and 8th over the 5th and the 9th, although I love those too. Another favorite of mine is Schubert's 9th. Glorious. And one cannot forget the great 8th! One cannot exclude Mozart's 38 and 41 from the line up of great symphonies. Edited June 15, 2007 by gellio
