alexblais Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Does anyone know where to get used pearl drum covers? The new ones are too expensive. What happens to all the ones DCI Corps use during tour ? Quote
MikeN Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 DCI corps tend to keep theirs with the drums - usually a package deal. I've had good luck finding 1/2 price-ish ones on eBay. Mike Quote

Mike is right about how most corps hang on to their covers from year to year. I would contact alan over at Forks Drum Closet (in Nashville). They MIGHT have used covers for sale (I know they usually have used harnesses for sale). I'm actually waiting for 6 pearl tenor covers to arrive, Pearl is out of stock and is waiting on a backorder to arrive. Quote
jonnyboy Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Make some. I'm a drummer and I can sew well enough to put together some decent covers. If you turn this project over to a few moms you can make it easier on yourself. Quote
floatdude Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Take a old white bed sheet, tear it lenght wise a about 14" tall and use some safety pins to attach the cover around the drums tight. Quote
jonnyboy Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 We used to put tee shirts on the snares. Fits great and they are cheap. We also used towels for the basses, sometimes sewing a few together. One year we got a hold of neoprene (wet suit fabric), it didn't have to be hemmed and we just made bands that would stretch over the drums. Worked great. The last covers I made were of quilted fabric from WalMart. They had drawstrings so the edge of the cover wrapped over the drum rim. Super protection and they looked good to. About ten bucks a drum, if that. I sometimes think people just want to buy stuff that looks cool or says "Pearl" on it. The covers that the big companies sell do work great, but the cost is crazy. The money could be spent better elsewhere. One thing is for sure, you gotta put covers on your drums. Even an expensive drum cover will save you money in the long run, based on scratches, dents, and drum wrap fading etc. Quote
