Does anyone know which specific parts of the Nutcracker ballet were used in Vanguard's 1995 show? Specifically in the opener (The Clock Breaks) and the fast part after the ballad (Celebration).

I know there's a lot of other pieces thrown in the mix, too (Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 features prominently in the first half of the show). This is one of those shows where corpsreps isn't much help.

Ok, so let's deconstruct this:

First Mvt - The Clock Breaks = "The Nutcracker, Act 1 Tableau I: Part VI.Scene: Departure of the Guests"

Second Mvt - War of the Nuts by Dave Carico

Music leading to and Drum Feature ="The Nutcracker, Act 1 Tableau I: Part VII.Scene: The Battle" -

Music after Drum Feature - War of the Nuts by Dave Carico

Romance and Seduction - Third Mvt with the rhythmic ostinato = "The Nutcracker, Act 2 Tableau III: Part III.Divertissement: Coffee" -

Celebration = "The Nutcracker, Act 2 Tableau III: Part III.Divertissement: Mother Ginger and The Clowns" -

Closer - The Journey Concludes = "The Nutcracker, Act 1 Tableau II: Part VIII.Scene: A Pine Forest in Winter" -

Hope that helps, I guess being a music major in college finally paid off.

Thank you! I was having trouble piecing it all together because the ballet is so huge. The Danse Arabe ballad was evident, as were the strains of Shostakovich's Symphony #11 in Carico's "War of the Nuts"... but beyond that I was struggling.

Hey thanks for the breakdown. I kind of wondered myself where exactly the source material was from.

Adding my thanks. When I saw hostrauser's question, I went and found the full ballet on youtube, then the full score courtesy of a wikipedia link, and then gave up when I realized it would take hours to try and figure it out. Nice excuse to watch the show again on the Fan Network, however.

This show is a regular on my playlist. One of Vanguard's most under-rated and under-appreciated shows, I think.
