Hey ... any chance DCA can get Wes Hobby to announce a few corps at Finals? After all, he was the "voice of drum corps" and announced the 64 WO and 65,66,67 DCA Championships ...

Here's this weekend's results from 50 years ago:

Saturday July 25, 1964 Waverly NY

12th Annual Tournament of Drums DCA

Position Corps Score

1 New York Skyliners 82.500

2 Reading Buccaneers 79.500

3 Yankee Rebels 78.188

4 Interstatesmen 77.000

5 Pittsburgh Rockets 71.966

Waverly 50 years ago, I was a seventeen year old there to watch the Skyliners for the first time. SRO, we had to sit on some ground level bleachers at about the 40 yard line. The WOW factor was a 10 on a scale from 1-10.

Two years later at Waverly, we walked passed a school on the way to the stadium and there they were the Skyliner sopranos, very relaxed, practicing or jamming "Old Black Magic", The WOW factor was a 15 on a scale of 1-10.

Its time to listen my 1964 Barnum Festival and 1966 American Legion CDs

Thanks Joe ... it's interesting and fun reliving the past and looking up the scores ... Sky's Historian (Jim Stanko) has been a great source of information ... I've got to review my DCN's to really get an accurate understanding of what was considered a "sanctioned" DCA show, and what wasn't in 64-65-66 ... some of the stuff that pops up is amazing ... I learn something new almost every day ... gotta go look up the scores from 64 for this coming weekend and post them soon ...

:-)

it's been great to relive some of these memories.....thanx for starting it Andy.....big kick about Waverly ('63} where Archie was escorted out of town by State Police after being confined in their buses overnight for an infraction.....hey, I was old then, but not so old as I am now......
