Donny Drum Corps Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Since it seems like the thing to do, I will chime in here with some hype about Ghost Riders. After an excellent rehearsal with percussion last night, The Ghost Riders from Parts Unknown are putting the final touches on the 2008 version to compete for the DCA mini corps Championships. The only thing left to do at this point is to make some decisions on personnel, and tighten it up. We have 3 more rehearsal dates to get things in order. Since the movement to Bb/F brass and the focus on balance, blend and musicianship, the Ghost Riders are making a strong stand in MCA as well as DCA. An improved quality of sound from the brass line should be expected. Ghost Riders 2008 show is "A Tribute to America" and features musical segments from the Battle Hymn of the Republic, Frank Ticheli's stirring "An American Elegy", which was commissioned in remeberance of the Columbine Masscre, and some of the Ghost Riders standards such as reworked versions of William Tell Overture and Ghost Riders in the Sky. We hope that you can make it to the DCA minicorps venue to enjoy the 2008 GHOST RIDERS. Donny Quote
brassomaniac Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Donny, this year's Ghost Riders are one of the most musical Mini-Corps I've heard! AND... the show is LOADED with crowd-pleasing music. Look forward to seeing GHOST! MCA Rocks! Quote

Donny Donny, If your having personel problems..dump Rod and Doug, with all this double duty goin (Rochester/GR) on and learnin to play a new horn (Bb), they've got to be exhausted mentally and physically! Remember, GR's are on right after us, so we won't be there to help carry half your Mello line off the stage! Quote

As I have been asked on many occasions, How do you cut the director(s)??? ...so check it out...Hypothetically, there is a mello player better than Doug...he tries out and he is better than Doug...does he get the spot? We will have to ask John Knight the answer to that question...LOL. It kind of good to have too many people for a change, though. Usually we are scrounging and begging at this time of the year. The problem is that there is no easy answer to trim to performance numbers. Donny Quote
MoonHill Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 As I have been asked on many occasions, How do you cut the director(s)??? Serious answer: BoD vote. Non-serious answer: Have the rookie do it. Quote

All Donny's arrangements are stellar ..... the winter was rockin ..... spring concerts were on the money ..... parades were well attended .... summer rehearsals were full ...... eats were provided for the entire corps at just about every outing ..... the staff agreed on all show concepts without a question ..... you couldn't ask for a better year so far. Now, Donny's back from his DCI tour and fine tuning his charts along with Rick Rogers heading out percussion / assisted by none other than Jackson (our army guy) back now from boot camp. The shows in place and I for one can't wait to perform this show front to back for the DCA crowd, our piers and our fans. Ghost Riders will deliver !!!! "Happy Trails To You" .... a safe trip to everyone and we will see you all in Ra-Cha-Cha on Friday nite !!!!! GR ROCKS ..... Doug Mellenthine / co-director & founder Quote

Donny Drum Corps Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Nope, we are sorry to say that Ryan Codd is NOT playing with the Ghost Riders. We believe that he had outside influences concerning his departure. We do have our own version of the next big thing though, and it is your nephew...Timmy Allen. He actually can play notes other than high notes!!! So hypothetically...if this guy is better than Doug... Donny Quote
