  1. Back then ('93, right?) all but 1 corps was a NE corps. (2 if you count Les Mets as not-NE) I think one of the BIG reasons was the open arms policy, actively encouraging "outsiders" to join the fun - especially starting Class A as a growth tool...
  2. [OT] It was announced on the OLPH Ridgemen Facebook page about an hour ago that Bobby Bella Rosa passed away... R.I.P. [/OT]
  3. Make sure you turn off "Restore Points" before removing critters. (If you don't they'll come right back)
  4. Thanks, Brian! I'll keep the 2 in, and just change the Positions...
  5. .. and that's the rub... No matter how much the DCA Organization would like to do, they're pretty much powerless due to lack of funds. They just can't afford the infrastructure necessary to go National. About the only "fund raiser" they have is DCA Weekend. And even then, after covering their expenses they split the rest of the proceeds with the member corps. It's pretty much a zero sum game... This isn't a senior version of DCI (even though it's older). It's more like a small volunteer organization, doing the best they can with the little they have.
  6. You're right, sorry. I'll be more specific: Outside of DCA Weekend, none have occurred - anywhere. (Of course, that also includes the NE!) But it has nothing to do with trying to be proactive or not. DCA simply has no money. As I'm sure you know, there's a huge difference between sanctioning a show and sponsoring one. Please re-read my response (#3) below. You can LOL all you want - but it doesn't change the facts. Unless, of course, you have evidence to the contrary? If so, please provide it. I'll be more than happy to change my position. In the meantime, I contend that NE corps are no better off financially than corps anywhere else. And it isn't any cheaper to travel from Ct to Ga than it is to travel from Ga to Ct. You'd be wrong... Finances were the #1 cause. (Although Mgt decisions certainly may have negatively affected the financial situation.) Look at Brigs, as just one example. They went from Best to Gone shortly after their Bingo money dried up... 1. Kamarag does not represent DCA in any official capacity, nor is his opinion "what it all comes down to". This is just too complex an issue to be handled with one simple answer. (Just my opinion, of course...) 2. Everyone, including you, is entitled to his opinion - and each deserves the same respect. All that's asked is that one back up/defend their claims, be open-minded enough to read and consider opposing opinions and rebuttals - and not get so frustrated that one uses words like "spew". Seems simple enough... (Shrug)
  7. 1. How many shows has DCA sponsored - period - in the past 10 years? You seem to be under the impression that DCA sponsors all the NE shows during the season. That's... not factual... 2. NE shows usually have NE corps in them. SE shows usually have SE corps, same with Midwest shows, California shows, etc. What's your point? 3. NE corps would LOVE to go to more shows (more paydays), but they simply can't afford the travel costs. Do you really think NE corps are better off financially than corps in other areas? Why do *you* think the NE recently lost so many? And what's so all-fired important about having a NE corps at a show anyway? Do you think they're going to bring busloads of paying fans with them? Heck, most NE fans won't travel a hundred miles for a show - and then it better be a big one... IMO, local corps need to promote themselves locally - and get so good that people flock to see 'em. Having a corps like the Bucs perform at a Texas show is not going to help Texas corps be any more successful. It's like, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" Heh...
  8. Yeah, the Fleetwood album only has Cru, Brigs, Hamburg and St. Joes... Don't know why my score archive has Cabs and Bucs, and I can't remember where I got it originally. I'll remove them... (Still would like scores if they ever show up)
  9. Even if that were true - it's not, BTW - then how were Kidsgrove and Inspires "allowed" to compete? Or Renegades in '02? The only thing remotely close to what you're suggesting was three scores on DCA sheets - for seeding purposes only - by sometime in August, if I remember correctly... If a corps didn't have the three scores, they simply went on before the seeded corps at Prelims. But there was no "allowing" involved...
  10. Yeah, I realized that after hitting "Send". So that makes.. 2... and then only because Sun just came back... (Sigh)
  11. Do Prelims scores count? I thought it was just Finals scores (Open and Class A)?
  12. In 1966 there were 7 senior and 20 junior corps at the NYS American Legion Championships. http://corpsreps.com/scores.cfm?view=scoreshow&showid=1966135 All but 1 senior (Sun) are gone... At one point (early/mid 60s, I think; I saw a list once) there were about 300 junior and senior competing corps in the State. Now you can count them with 1 hand. (Empire, Sun, Fusion Core and.. ?) The only existing junior I'm aware of is Auburn Purple Lancers, and they're not competing yet. Of course, one would be hard pressed to find 300 corps in the world any more...
  13. Thanks, Bill So that makes it 6-4 Northeast (add Fusion Core and subtract Kidsgrove)...
  14. You missed my point: No corps *has* to travel anywhere. That some traveled "thousand of miles over the last ten years to attend shows in the NE" was strictly voluntary. If corps they want to have closer shows, DCA is certainly not stopping them. Heck, DCA has even provided sheets and training for judging senior corps as far away as California! They didn't have to do that - they wanted to do that. But DCA doesn't have the cash (or sponsors) DCI does, and cannot put on shows like DCI does. They even have to contract out recording! They have no Tom Blair... Management works for basically nothing, most Staff is volunteer, and almost all money taken in is dispersed among the member corps at the end of the year. Second point: Lack of regular competition against NE corps certainly hasn't hurt MBI. (Or Kidsgrove or Inspires) Everyone starts with Zero at Prelims... Last point: The vast majority of Senior Corps have come primarily from the NE since WWII. It's where the fan base is ("butts in the seats"), due to so many decades of exposure. (It'll be interesting to see the attendance figures in Md.) So naturally that's where most of the shows are...
  15. In 1971 there were 17 corps at DCA Prelims In 1981 there were 17 corps at DCA Prelims In 1991 there were 17 corps at DCA Prelims In 2001 there were 15 corps at DCA Prelims In 2011 there will be 22 corps at DCA Prelims (23 if SoCal Dream had been able to make it) Sounds like DCA is doing something right these days...
  16. I think the Top 10 have the voting rights...? Based on last year: 5 Northeast corps 5 non-Northeast corps - including Kidsgrove (Did Kidsgrove attend the Rules Congress?) 2011 won't change the tie, but there's no Rules Congress this year so it doesn't matter. 2012 will be the next Rules Congress, so next year's Finals could change things. But I doubt all the non-Northeast corps will vote in a block anyway.... IMO, DCA is going out of its way to help everybody - especially Class A corps. But if the corps can't afford to travel, there's not much they can do. You can't force a corps to go to any competition - even DCAs. (Going to Md next year is probably a big deal for some financially.)
  17. Yeah, weird, isn't it? I know it happened, because I was there with St. Joes. (It was before I got the "Big Spender" solo) Plus there's a Fleetwood album of it... http://www.fleetwoodsounds.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=388
  18. Anyone have the scores for this show? Tournament of Drums June 19, 1971 Aquinas Stadium Rochester, New York 1 Syracuse Brigadiers 2 Reading Buccaneers 3 Hawthorne Caballeros 4 Rochester Crusaders 5 Hamburg Kingsmen Exhibition: St. Joes of Batavia Thanks,
  19. No, I lived right in Utica, went to Utica Free Academy, and worked at GE and then downtown at the Holiday Inn for a spell... And yes, I know exactly what you mean! Heh...
  20. NanciD's mouse has ddied, so she can't do much of anything on her computer right now. There have also been a lot of pop-up Thunder Storms in her area, forcing her to shut everything down several times a day. (They're under a Tornado Warning right now!) She'll be back as soon as she can...
  21. A quick look at DCA's Calendar: Fusion Core has 10 shows Cabs have 9 Bucs have 9 Bush has 7 Empire has 6 MBI has 4 Again, this is a quick perusal of the DCA Calendar through 8/27, so could very well be.. not entirely accurate...
