  1. I'm a Little Teapot! Puff the Magic Dragon! The Alphabet Song! These could be great shows!!!!
  2. I could not agree more!!! Do it on the side, in the majority of the country Colorguard is not a class in school and often not even looked on as a sport. Boosters often pay salaries. No 401k, think of your future. I loved every minute I taught but I made a choice once to teach rather than take a decent job that would have taken me away from my colorguard job. I made the mistake of putting off a good career option to teach. I regret that decision almost everday! Learn from you elders! lol It's a fantastic activity as you know, and if you are a great talent you will be able to have a career and achieve guard success at the same time!
  3. Wow, this is certainly a surprise to read this morning. Rick always had a smile on his face. My condolences to his family and to his Crusader family, he will be missed. Chris
  4. let's hope they also ordered dance belts!
  5. Just a curious cat today...has there been any reason why Mr. Lowe left Fantasia? I can certainly understand if he just needed a brain break! He will be missed.
  6. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all of you! Here's to a great 2009 in the guard world.
  7. NOW I'm excited about WGI 2009! Those shows sound fantastic...I luvs me some Avon and Center Grove...
  8. There is a joke there somewhere, but I shall resist the temptation....
  9. Can't we have a fierce pretty show? or maybe a pretty fierce....I hate choosing! As long as it is clean and performed well, I don't care! Just entertain me with magical writing, a fantastic concept and performers that love what they are doing.
  10. I drank the Cool-Aid...been involved with this cult from then on.
  11. Exactly.... It is a real legal issue, we should not take this lightly. Allow the process to work and let Mr. Nelson get on with his life. I, for one, do not feel sorry for him, he brought this on himself, that being said I also do not wish to persecute him. He is going to lose out on a huge aspect of his life. He will no longer be able to teach any guard in the near future. That is ashame for the activity and himself. There are no winners in this situation. If the charges are true, he broke the law. Simple as that.
  12. Characteristics: I'm a traditionalist. 1. An ensemble flag statement, especially from scholastic units. Sure, Fantastia can bust out a whole 7 minute show and just spin weapon, but let's face it, most groups can't (or won't) do it. 2. If you can't spin weapon, DON'T! It drives me nuts to see kids struggle through a show attempting to do stuff that they obviously have no business doing. 3. Be SMART. I can't tell you how many outdoor shows this year I've seen that are so poorly put together. Where is the musicality??? Where is the logic?? The music is still going, so why are you on the sideline?!?!?! Common sense folks... it's not that hard. From beginner groups, I really like to see pretty, or at least pleasant, shows. I think it is much harder to get kids to grasp being aggressive and "mean" (if you will) than it is to get them to just be themselves and be the happy, fun folks they are (for the most part). I COULD NOT AGREE MORE! Please do not have your kids spin weapons if the training is not evident and please please please do not ask them to do anything you as their instructor(s) cannot do! Someone on staff must be able to teach and clean what ever you ask your students to do. I can't tell you how many shows I've seen where it is obvious some instructor has seen a 'neat' move on video or in person and try to get their kids to do it without any knowledge on how to properyl achieve the element. off my soap box for now...
  13. oh I wish! lol.. In all seriousness both young ladies who withdrew from marching left due to serious medical issues. Made it much more of an a emotional weekend than we anticipated...the last weekend of the year if always filled with laughs and tears, but this one was tough.
  14. Thanks Mike and nice seeing you at DCA! Despite our setbacks that weekend, losing two performers and closing the holes in one rehearsal, the guard pulled it out and had a great finals run. Congrats to the Hurcs! chris

  19. Auditions will be this weekend, April 26th, 11-4 in Syracuse...all the info:staff, show, perfomances, auditions can be found at www.brigadiers.com Check it out, going to be a fantastic year, the entire staff is excited about this show. Chris
  20. should I be seeing a photo of a flag??? and if yes...why can I not see it????
  21. I soooo agree...after last year's emotional and moving show, this year's music seems cold. Chris
  22. Solid flags work, give each girl a different shade or hue of a particualr color. Say all sorts of lavenders, lilacs etc...really easy and cheaper to do. Or have all the flags have a portion that is the same...and then add the different shades to that.
  23. ok ok...why am I not seeing photos? what am I missing??
  24. I personally think any color can be used. There are no rules.... As it has been stated, you must consider band unis, guard unis, the theme, when and what time your championships are...all are combined to help portray your program and elicit the emotion you want. But also consider texture in choosing the color. Lames, iridescent, lace for example all add a different component to the flag and can give you completely different looks. Plus shape, length and material of the pole...a thin PVC pipe can give you a really unique look to your flight show (look up Magic of Orlando in '96). that's my two cents...
  25. I predict the guard with the highest score in each class will be the winner! Good luck to all the guards especially all my friends and their teams! Safe travels...see you in Dayton.
