  1. I don't know why but I dig the motion happening at once. Have seen and done it both ways. I guess since the last corps I worked with had technique that shifted the body weight while slicing with the silk, it stuck.
  2. Let's face it. We fight for time with our kids that are involved in other activities and such. We don't get the time we *wish*. Since I have my kids in an actuall guard class and not just after school, I use the class times to do focus. Typically Monday, Wednesdays are Movement technique and Tuesday, Thursday are equipment technique....fridays are typically shot to heck due to friday games during the fall. I still have beef with the 'technique' issue in this state. With marching contests Texas judges tend to reward you for the size of the guard as opposed to what the demand/technique and so on is. You can have a 24 member guard and catch clean with thier buttcheeks, but are still nothing to the guard that has 50 dance team members jazzrunning and leaping at a constant right shoulder *not covering a crutch*. Wow...I just vented from stuff from last year. Hurricanes do silly things to people. /end rant.
  3. So much effort to type out but: Step 1- with body facing front, set with the flag at right slam with the left hand palm up a third from the crutch, and right hand palm down at the tab. Step 2- taking the staircase plane to face the corner, pull your left hand BEHIND your head and your right hand up. The most common mistake of newbies is to attempt this toss by having both hands infront of your face....tis wrong. Also get infront of a reflective surface or get a friend to check your angle. The silk is released in the left corner with the weight of your body on the left foot. This is count 1. Step 3- Silk is in the air as your body turns to the back over your left shoulder. This is count 2. step 4- catch shoulder hip angle with the silk up to the right with the right hand palm up, left hand palm down. This is count 3. It takes some time to figure out the right loftyness to rotation ratio. Remember, the left hand is to guide the pitch, the right hand is the lift....rotation comes from the slicing of the staircase plane. Also just my prefrence with my poles, but we use an ubber weight on top and none on the bottom....but I also write alot of work where your holding on to just the silk and the pole flies about. Best of luck young spinner.
  4. Krause Anderson! Oh how I haven't uttered that in SO LONG! *raises a beer while tossing a corhhole bag* See you in 2010 Sdub!

  8. Actually that was the PR one. This one was started post announcement by Crown and WGI. Anyway..... Some real heavy hitters on the staff.....just hope the members show more support than they did with PR.
  9. As long as we are moving this, shouldn't it be merged with the already going discussion?
  10. True dat! I find it just a bit classless. Sure, you directed guard 'A', but don't put the pics on the site for guard 'B'. If you must put pics up, use Crown pics from the field and so on.
  11. Love Rick! He's also bringing a great support staff. More news on the horrizon.
  12. Possibility of Crown Guard for indoor?!
  13. Should be in "outdoor" but fits the merry-go-round: Crowns Staff listing has changed to "Info". Guess things are a changing. My tech DID get a message from Sage....he WILL be with A corps next summer.
  14. I considered it for about 10 seconds. I'm still writing and directing several groups, so I feel like it's too much of a conflict of intrest to judge right now. When I put down the flag, I'll pick up the recorder :)
  15. To every season, turn turn turn. ....don't get me started on changes in my neck of the woods.
  16. Just updated our listing of flags for sale. Check out our Picasa site. For more info email or PM me.
  17. Auditions WILL be at Tomball HS. Google Map Again..... $35 Audition fee will be applied to member dues. (Make checks payable to "Polaris Youth Ensembles") Total member dues will be $400. Please dress in black dance attire and bring your rifle/sabre. Flags will be provided. See YOU Saturday Sept. 13th! Fleur de Lys Winterguard
  18. Seems like these days pretty is rewarded more. However, I personally love humor/quirky type shows more.....more memorable in the sea of pastels and Tori Amos/Imogen Heap.
  19. Drama Drama Drama. I can't believe how publicly this is all playing out. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to still see Sage with an ind. guard. However, no wonder the rest of the band/corps/music community thinks we are the biggest drama queens on the planet. The public statements made by PR board, press release by Sage, and pres releases by PR......the whole thing smacks of tacky. Oh and as to my earlier post about my tech, he's going back to SCV for a second year.
  20. I suppose it will be good for his HS groups....he can focus more on them. However, fingers are crossed for a return of "The Company". Wishfull thinking :) As for the Cadets, I could see it. PR, who can take the helm? My tech was planning on marching there just to spin under Sage....now he doesn't know what to do. Spin with the corps that he loves or follow the Caption?
  21. From regiment.org: Aug. 17, 2008 Winter guard goes inactive Phantom Regiment Winter Guard will not be taking the competition floor this winter. The Regiment winter guard was based out of Atlanta, Ga., and under the direction of Adam Sage. Phantom Regiment is in the process of hiring a new guard caption head and, instead of rushing into the winter guard season which typically has auditions at the beginning of September, the organization has decided it will not field a winter guard in 2009. "Having a winter guard these past two years was beneficial to the organization, and we look forward to possibly bringing out the winter guard again in the future," said Phantom Regiment executive director Rick Valenzuela. PRWG placed seventh in the independent world class division in 2007, its first year of competition after a 24-year hiatus, and 10th in 2008. PRWG was world champion in 1979 and 1980. The Phantom Regiment is a youth organization dedicated to the development of self-esteem and self-reliance. It encourages team work, sportsmanship, civic pride and contributions of one's personal best to a group effort. These lessons are learned through a musical and marching activity in which there is a blending of the arts and athletics. For more information about Phantom Regiment, go to www.regiment.org.
  22. Team go figure is ok. If your looking for uniforms NOW, don't count on seeing uniforms from this company before your first contest. They are a small and slow company. Great for those who are prepared early and have stuff ready to order in JUNE or MAY for fall.
