  1. i'm betting they're going to build in a caesura somewhere in the middle of that ballad. its already beautiful.
  2. the whole end of that opener feels very 2008 to me. there's something about this show, i'm telling you.
  3. I don't get that sense, but I think I know what you're hearing. To me, there are places that sound muddy because there are so much dissonance built into pretty much every chord they play. If the balance isn't just right then it can have the same sound quality of what you're talking about. I think it's going to take time. I like how they only play a basic major or minor triad like three or four times in the show, but I feel like there needs to be a little more relief. Speaking of relief. Listen to those phantom mellos. Holy heck. And then the low brass shines a little later. Several times, lol.
  4. this will be so interesting a couple weekends form now. love colts and troop in very different ways. troop's brass book is a lot more challenging especially since they move so much more while playing, but colts sound beautiful and it's one of my faves musically this year. exuberant.
  5. the amplified bass (can't tell if it's guitar or synth with the walking bass line that the tubas sometimes double) is over the top in tonight's sound design lol. everything else is great, though.
  6. with crown, this is not like last year when they were winning early and the design and even performance didn't really seem to have anywhere to go. last year really had me worried, but not anymore.
  7. i feel like a lot of people on here don't understand how heavily judges slot everything up until san antonio when they all face off at the same time. i get that the show isn't playing in the arms race of props and scatter/dance that dci has become, but that's going to be a stunner in sa imo. will do significantly better than some of the corps that people think are with them. too much excellence not to.
  8. quickly becoming one of my favorite musical productions of the year. nailing it tonight.
  9. they're leaning a lot more into "black hole sun" as a theme than "the sun garden" to me. black holes are so gravitationally powerful they can "spaghettifi" stars. theirs is a bit more like a red dwarf right now. but the good news for me is that i really don't care about themes or props and never will. most of the stupid props out there are used as a replacement for actual design, and everything else holds up on its own in that show to me.
  10. i think this madison show will be a beacon to attract even more brass talent. well written, and you can just tell they're having fun playing this. i think the flo's sound setup is pretty bangin tonight, too.
  11. i've been a bd honk since the early 90s, but i don't mind saying i haven't really loved anything they've done since 2017 either. i was busy in 2017 and literally only saw BD at the beginning of the season and then during finals week in the theater and streaming. at the beginning of the season i didn't think much of it, but it was a completely different experience by finals. i couldn't believe it. i feel like the 2nd half of their show this year will be kind of the same for me. don't know why.
  12. k going to bed now. and east coast peeps, why aren't you snoring already? have a good night everybody.
  13. the callback to 2012 just feels so perfect there to me.
  14. holy heck they're already so good. without doubt my favorite show from them since 2017.
  15. the red and blue logos on the field match up with the props pretty nicely.
  16. a very very blue blue knights show. other than the pink at the end was there any other color? i'm assuming they just haven't gotten in any of their actual show silks yet. sounds really good in a few impact places so i assume they'll get the rest of the show there soon enough . no matter what, i like that whole design a lot more than last year. looking forward to seeing what you do BK!
  17. mic placement and sound design aren't nearly as balanced as the last cali show on flo. really treble-heavy. i'm soooo curious about bk. last year never really worked for me because the music never sounded very clear to me. not sure why they're walking on the field like they're in need of an exorcist right now. makes me more intrigued.
  18. my favorite brass line and book from the mandarins by far, but the lead trumpets are really good. when they're playing an octave above the 2nds it's just laser like.
  19. i feel like the crowd will go crazy for this show. like bonkers. well, for californians anyway.
  20. their feet are amazing every single time. really enoyed that percussion feature and all of the movement from the rest of the corps.
