  1. Well, it's usually much hotter in Spokane than in Seattle this time of year. Big difference from just a 5 hour overnight drive. I dunno. And yeah, I mentioned the grass for a reason. It was thick and long. Marching technique problems were apparent for every corps. A couple of fall-downs for no reason other than that occured.
  2. Scores of 'em. I like it a little cloudy and with uber airtight lids. Nothing bothers me more than clear tupperwear with lids that don't keep out moisture.
  3. It was in reaction to Hrothgar's thread, I think. :)
  4. Yeah, good point. But lots of hard music has been put on the field successfully by gifted arrangers and performers. I think they could find 11 minutes they could play. It's been done before. :)
  5. Mwa haa haa. A good friend of mine marched that with Black Gold. Also, The Cadets did a lot of De Meij's Second Syphony in 99. :)
  6. Pictures at an Exhbition would be a good one. Sure, The Great Gate of Kiev has been done lots. But there haven't been many shows devoted to the whole piece. As StudioTan brought up, Low or Low Symphony would be excellent. For real fun, it would be awesome to hear a corps do The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis. That would be a wild show.
  7. Yep. I was just listening to it today. All three movements would be excellent for a corps to do. :)
  8. Rehashings of West Side Story, Appalachian Spring, Corea tunes, things like that. But seriously, I'd like two things. More soft moments. More loud moments.
  9. DCI has them up now. Boston doubled their lead on Madison overnight. Still, very close.
  10. I didn't know if it had already started or not, so I added myself to it last week or so. The more the merrier. :)
  11. Scores for the NY show should be coming anytime. The MN show will be somewhat later since it's only 8:50 out there right now. And the WA scores a couple hours after that.
  12. BK="Dark Knights" SCV="Moto Perpetuo" (perpetual motion)
  13. Again, why belittle the girl singing? That's basically saying "that girl is awful," except in a much meaner way. I can't believe you can't come up with another way to express your displeasure. You're not alone with not liking the vocals, but come on.
  14. I think the fact that the Cadets won added more fury to those who hate them. I'd say it's a little bit more overblown this year, but not much. Given all of the threads stared in the past 2 hours over the Cadets, it seems that a lot of people just got home from a bad day at work. Sheesh! :P
  15. Agreed. I brought up 2 other points that had nothing to do with gender in which the same questions can be considered. Funny that the person who created this thread in the first place admonishes others for isolating a single statement. I'm used to it. It's the way of things when people want desperately to be right. Signing off, and sorry if I caused problems by asking such questions.
  16. Yes, I talked to the lady in the Vanguard souvie truck when I saw they had a sign up saying that there were brass positions available. She said that they had just flown in some replacements, and that the positions were now filled. They were marching 3 mello holes, I believe, at the Spokane show.
  17. I'll make sure you don't have the opportunity to make that mistake again, believe me. :)
  18. Your premises are inconsistent. You fail to address whether or not all male corps had exploited the formal elements of drum corps at the time; if not, then by your own explicitly stated schema, females being allowed to march was unnecessary. Instead, you changed your premise for whether or not they should be allowed to march from "change is unnecessary unless the formal elements of drum corps have been exploited" to "change is sometimes necessary if it increases a corps' talent pool." I don't blame you for that, but it's all that's going to happen in this thread. Over and over. Also, I think you'll find that a lot of people would disagree with your choice of shows that "benchmark" the full exploitation of drum corps formal elements status quo. But thanks for the explanation. :)
  19. Kazoos in ballads. Glass Harmoniums in tandem with drumspeak. Didgeridoo quartets. Oh wait, the title is "fads that need to stop." My mistake.
  20. How do you know when the full expressive potential of the basic formal elements of drum corps have been fully exploited? And is that really the only criteria for making a change "necessary?" Before females were allowed to march, had the basic formal elements of drum corps at the time been fully exploited? How do you know. Before putting a grounded pit in front of the field, had the basic formal elementsof drum corps been fully expolited? How do you know? Before the addition of valves 1,2, or 3, had the basic formal elements of drum corps been fully exploited? How do you know? If you answer "no" to any of these questions and more importantly, justify why, then all of the changes I mentiond are also unnecessary.
