The Death of Drum Corps
apoch003 replied to dc oldtimer's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
We've pretty much beaten this subject to death. But I'll still answer. two-valve to three valve and g to bflat, for me. And yet still, I go to every show and pay premium ticket prices and buy souvies... So in reality, it's never "died". -
So we're not even Legacy alumni anymore?

Well, for GAWDS SAKE!!! DON'T send those to DCI. They'll be "missplaced" in a week. -

Well, Puppet. Legacy in video would have to be when someone started filming corps shows. Legacy in audio would be the same, only someone taping the shows. The records may be there, but how can we enjoy pre-legacy legacy if there's nothing to see or hear? -

Having only finals reserved for posterity is like watching only the emmy winning shows of "The Golden Girls" over and over again. After a while, you believe that those are the only four old ladies who were ever there, and ever mattered. And even then, the shows become predictable and less entertaining. Legacy, IMO, isn't just about the original 13 DCI corps. It's also about ALL the other Open, A, and B class corps that were there and competing at the time. Dismissing them would be a complete shame. Admittedly, the Argonauts do not contribute much of anything to "Legacy". But the current Oregon Crusaders and Seattle Cascades have roots within the Argos. Kurt Jull (Of the Cascades) marched in our colour guard in the years I marched. Richard Kibbey (The Legendary here. Anywhere else, you guys are probably going "who?") marched Argonauts too. As did Randy and Larry Graves. Legacy just means we that marched in the past which have an impact on the today. -

Probably "defeated" his point. Or "negated". -

OUCH!!! What is considered Legacy anymore? I always thought it was the first 13 dci corps. But frankly, I'M LEGACY TOO!!! Or at least, I wanna be! -
This is correct.

Of course, now the pendulum has swung (swinged? swang? swunged?) too far in the other direction and we see a bit too much artsy fartsy pretention and not enough precision and good old crowd pleasing drum corps. Time changes everything. Who knows what it'll be like in 20 years. But I hope to continue giving my money to these hard working kids and be there in two decades to find out! I loves me some drum corps. Even if I don't agree with the current styles.

Didn't you hear? They're gonna be wearing pasties on their dickies! -
The scanner takes the image in pixels (small squares) of the image. If the image is from print, it was generated in dots of gray (another matrix in order to separate black, whites and gray tones. What you see is the moire effect of the pixelation overlaying the original dot matrix. You can't really get rid of it (yet! Technology will find a way). EDIT: OOPS. I SEE SOMEONE ALREADY ANSWERED THE QUESTION.

No problems here, either Rusty. Right click on the image and "save picture as" works fine.

Oregon Drum and Bugle Corps
apoch003 replied to Ranger Rick's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
The heritage of the current Crusaders has nothing to do with what you read. The current Crusaders are the Oregon Crusaders from Medford/Klamath Falls area. It moved to northern Oregon in the late 90's. The current Crusaders formed after the downfall of the Argonauts (from Salem). Most of the staff are old Argonauts staff or members. -
