  1. I felt very awkward last night posting comments about the show BETWEEN performances. Most of my high school students can text without even looking at their phones (actually had a contest at a journalism workshop recently).
  2. Pacific Crest was a tremendous surprise for me in Hattiesburg. Great job in all sections and great energy throughout the program!
  3. Agreed. It seemed the contras (ugh...tubas) had their horns down at their sides more than they played. I especially hate that during the one soprano (ugh...trumpet) solo the tubas are marching along the front while the synth plays an awesome walking bass line. The ONLY consistent tuba contribution last night was from Crown.
  4. I was on the 50 in row 33 and concur with your analysis. The overall sound was the best of the night, but there were some stickouts (enough to be behind Phantom...probably not). The ensemble numbers (which reflect what we get as fans) were higher (I had them above BD - by a smidge) As I've read before in another thread: there is absolutely no where to hide in Crown's brass show
  5. Really quick comments about BD They were good, but don't do anything for me. Not much crowd response except for after solos. More tomorrow Getting on the road
  6. Cadets better. Guard still in corps uniforms too long for me. Guard cleaner in places Horns very good. Drums very good. Don't like little Jeffrey. Crown filled the stadium with sound. Guard was really, really good. The echo at the end of Nimrod was the highlight of the night musically. Lots of "ahs" Devils getting ready to start. I have long drive home, so I will post about them tomorrow. Sorry
  7. Cool start for PR from off the field (unseen) Drill lacks clarity (big time) Hornline lots of notes (sometimes muddy) Drumline lots of notes (NOT muddy) Down ending ineffectual. Could hear Cadets singing during PR ballad:-( Little Jeffrey up next
  8. Not the horn performance I expected. Not bad, but not great. They don't play pretty. Very edgy. Drums not as clear as expected either. Overall, a definite step up in design for the night. Good crowd response. Regiment next
  9. Great low brass from Troopers. Percussion weak. Only two tenors? I want one of their opener flags. Guard performed well. Feet a problem in places. Great crowd response. INT on the field. Great coverage, but garbled sound. Glassmen on next
  10. Red Team performed well. Good horn book. Didn't like the blue splashes in the second tune. Drums great in places, fuzzy in others. Too much synth. I don't know that I found all my fillings yet. Best response after Crest thus far. Great job. Troopers on field
  11. Academy solid. Didn't like the guys in the guard in skirts in the opener. Guard is good though. As are brass and percussion. Maybe not as energetic as Crest, nor quite as musical. IMO Strong close to show! Colts next
  12. Mandarins done. Very uneven show on all fronts. Drums most consistent section. Not what I would expect in late July. Need to work on feet and forms. Academy next. BTW Mike, glad Natalie was happy. More to you tomorrow from home.
  13. WOW! Great opening brass statement. Really good musically in all sections. Guard seemed to get stronger as show developed. Not a big fan of the random "runners" in the second tune. REALLY ENJOYED THE SHOW!
  14. Teal not bad. Too much electric bass and not enough contra. Love the guard uniform. Nicely done. Crest entering
  15. On the 50 about halfway up. Will try to update some. Teal on the field
  16. You mean standing in the tunnel? At least we had shelter, but that was a nasty storm. I thought surely you would reference the mellophone rain dance that you guys added circle drill to and got us a tornado. Blew the cart over on that soprano player (Mike Mendez, I think) and put him out for the season.
  17. I'm with you on that one. I also wish Crown would lose the cymbals at the end of build in Nimrod and let the "echo out" (sorry for the cross-corps reference in this thread).
  18. Ditto here. Thanks for the time on the updates
  19. Pics and updates great and appreciated!
  20. The Fort Mill on-demand should be subtitled "Through a Camera Darkly"
  21. I'll have to wait and see it on the field, but I tend to agress with shaners about the short sleeves making things look inconsistent. Love the throwback idea though. Now, about the guard
