Cool opportunity with the Troopers!

Which part of working for free is the "cool" part? -
The same reason that everyone else quit. It rhymes with "porge dopkins."

98: The Cadets of Bergen County: 99-now: The Cadets Moved to PA after 2002 season
-
1998 was the last season the corps was presented as The Cadets of Bergen County.
-
What? Why would he? I'm in no way qualified to teach music or movement.
-
Tommy - Awesome, welcome home. Don't expect percussion to miss a beat and maybe the ensemble will even be better! Sal - A proven commodity on some level. Not sure how he fits with the Cadet aesthetic, or I guess whether the aesthetic even exists any more. Dr. Earnhart - Good and truly puzzled over this one. Just utterly perplexed. As I wrote earlier, we have such a great design talent pool from our alumni and then we go get a guy who was the "music coordinator" during some very rough Phantom years. Weird. Drew Shanefield - Not a fan of his books, whatsoever. Never have been. Michael Terry - He's a nice guy and I know for a fact wasn't the first choice, so I wish him luck. Seriously. Taking Gino's chair is certain to be tough. Brass guys - Assuming these are Drew's guys, so ??? Marching guys - No idea. Again, we have the deepest bench in the world and we end up with some guys from outside. Overall: I have no idea what we're going for.
-
Yeah, I hope that guy negotiated all kinds of autonomy in his agreement, otherwise at the first sign of, well, anything it's going to be The Hopkins Show. I am glad that GH saw the writing on the wall, but I don't understand why we didn't end up with someone who has been through the Cadets. We have *by far* the deepest "bench" (alumni base who are educators - and great ones!) and we end up with a former "music coordinator" for Phantom and the Cavaliers. And no, no one asked for my opinion, and overall I guess I am satisfied that there is someone there to do the important job of designing the program. As usual, the corps has 100% of my support, but I do think we'll struggle to put out a "Cadets quality" program this year as the team finds its footing. The battery is going to be ridiculous, regardless.

It's a good point and I of course agree, having worn the uniform myself and only that uniform. My only point is that I can see kids making the move. I wouldn't view it as a "different level," simply because the concept of "loyalty" in drum corps means less now than it has in the past, in my observation.
-
It's amazing how you consistently get things about half-right. Remind me again when the uniforms are changing?
-
I don't think making such a move is a lack of maturity. Kids move corps all the time for all kinds of reasons. My sense is that if I'm a kid in the Cadets and I see that admin replaced Gino Freaking Cipriani with Michael Terry, I am a little perplexed. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't, but being in Gino's line is a known quantity, experience-wise.
-
Totally agreed. Band aids on top of band aids, when heart surgery is required.
-
not exactly inspired by any of these moves
-
Sure but I was talking more about the fact that Hopkins replaced Gino Cipriani and company with the crew they announced tonight. Kids following Gino suddenly seems much more likely than it did a few days ago, just my opinion from the outside.
-
Gino in 2002 took an open class Magic of Orlando from not existing for the two previous years to 11th place in world class. Compared to that, this is a sprinting start.
-
Seriously though if I'm a kid in the Cadets, I take a look at that brass staff and BAC sounds better and better...
-
The Cadets' hires other than Tommy are super lame and the way they were announced is also lame.
-
aren't you the guy who told the kid a couple of weeks ago that his opinion about old shows was more or less invalid because he'd only seen them on video? people have opinions.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Uh... that's been going on since well before 2009.

Shut it down, boys. This is the single dumbest thing I've ever read on the internet.
