  1. Nobody is ever going to go to that much trouble to bring older members in. The whole idea in DCI is younger, faster, healthier, and WHEN I SAY JUMP YOU SAY HOW HIGH?
  2. I thought of another important point. Kids view the staff as superiors way more than older people would. I know I'm generalizing here, but it tends to be true. Older people tend to view the staff as equals and are way more likely to challenge their authority. I've been guilty of it myself from time to time. Therefore it seems to me that abolishing the age-out rule would completely change the rehearsal atmosphere and create new headaches that could affect productivity.
  3. I think it would be extremely rare that people would stay physically fit enough to march in modern DCI shows well past the age of 21. Somebody mentioned in an earlier post that we'd have a bunch of middle aged people in DCI, but I just don't think that's realistic. Having said that, I think that getting rid of the age-out rule is a bad idea. I love marching in DCA now and being on the field with people of multiple generations. But DCI is a different animal. DCI is about being with people from that specific age group. Think about what life in the bus is like, and then bring in some 30 and 40 year olds. It's just not right. Do I wish I could still march DCI? YES! It was heartbreaking to age out, but that's my problem and nobody else's. Let the kids have the glory just like we did when we were young.
  4. Oh geez, I gotta do it. My vote goes to 2002 Cadets. I don't care what anyone says, that show gets me every time!
  5. Put me down for 2003 Phantom Regiment! And a huge honorable mention to 2000 SCV!
  6. Actually I already lost half my hearing from going to too many metal concerts when I was a kid, so I need to be careful!
  7. I've got a feeling 2007 Crown is going to win this, but I have to vote for 2001 Phantom! That hornline rocks my world!
  8. I definitely love the percussion features! But I think I may have lost a bit of hearing when I sat on the stage right in front of them....
  9. Anybody who marched in the Bluecoats 1998-2002 knows Oswald. Oswald lives in Texas. So one day we were practicing somewhere in Texas near his home town. We were waiting in line at the chuck truck for dinner and as per usual I was cussing like a sailor. Seriously, the filth that was coming out of my mouth was enough to make Andrew Dice Clay blush. So then I turned around and Oswald says to me, "Evan, I'd like you to meet my mother."
  10. I didn't have to think too hard about this one. 1998 Bluecoats all the way! The music was great (props to Doug Thrower), the hornline was loud, and it was performed with HEART! I only wish I knew about drum corps back then so I could have marched that show.
  11. I gotta say, I just can't wait to hop into the car on Friday and head to Syracuse! I'm coming from Cleveland and will be on I-90 the whole way. Anybody want me to pick them up on the way? Just send me a PM. Good things are happening and you'll be glad you checked it out. I need not elaborate, see for yourself!
  12. 2001 Madison Scouts, no contest. End of disucussion.
  13. Actually they switched to Bb in 2001. But it's okay, they're still awesome!
  14. Bluecoats went Bb in 2002. And you're wrong about Crossmen, they went Bb in 2002 as well.
  15. They were blowing their own horns and switching their hands from horn to horn. Those who were playing were really doing it. How else could it have been done? Were we hearing a recording of trumpets? How could that possibly have been faked? Please enlighten me.
  16. Ummmmm... what? Say what you will about the Cadets, but their 2007 show was one of the most amazing brass performances I've ever witnessed. Intonation was not an issue. I can't even begin to imagine what you're talking about.
  17. I'm going because I love all those shows. But I am a bit disappointed that there won't be any 70's or 80's shows in the mix. I like seeing that stuff. I like the format of the first Classic Countdown where there were shows from every decade of DCI. But the bottom line is, you should always go to these events. It's our duty to support any public drum corps broadcast.
  18. Anchovies, jalepenos, and bacon of course. The grease and salt are essential for any long rehearsal in the blazing sun!
  19. Who's excited for the Might St. Joe's Classic?? THIS guy!!!!
  20. Today's guards perform choreography with weapons and flags. The guards of the 60's and 70's performed choreography with weapons and flags. Stop splitting hairs.
