So, I was discussing with my band director the other day about, well, the marching activity in general and I brought up the rule changes about electronic instruments and mic'd horns. . He's an old school drum Corps kind of guy who believes that there is no such thing is drum corp any more. His arguments are usually more illogical than people's arguments on this forum, always saying that drum corp ended when it got all "artsy fartsy," Yet always attributing the artsy fartsyness to a differant point in time, from when the first valves were used straight on up to narration. Most, more like all, of the time I disagree with him, but today he made a very interesting, and different, point. He stated that drum corp officially ended when the color guard began to do "all this artsy fartsy dance ########."
So now to my point, many of the changes in drum corp have taken place in the hornline and percussion, and now once again, they are the focus. Much of the time, the colorguard is neglected as the sorry sister of the musical aspects of the activity. So now, I pose this question to you:
How have changes in style of the colorguard affected the drum corps activity at large through out the years?
