  1. That is true. If you look at my original 1983 music parts and listen to what we actually played that year, you would find some significant differences and even more music than what was written in some tunes and less in others. So getting copies of someone's music parts may not guarantee that you have the same thing they played in Finals.
  2. There is an all age corps down there called Echoes of New Orleans. I contacted corps director John Weidman to let him know y'all are coming down to march in the Mardi Gras parades. Echoes is marching in the Krewes of Caesar and Isis.
  3. Back in my time, a lot of us from the Greater New Orleans area went to corps like the Blue Stars (when they were still finalists), Memphis Blues, Phantom Regiment, Garfield Cadets, Madison Scouts, and one guy ended up marching with the Blue Devils. BTW, it's nice to see the National Championship return to Louisiana.
  4. Junior Corps 1st time - 1978 - Rifle line with the Bleu Raeders in Franklin Park, IL Last time - 1983 - Euphonium with the Phantom Regiment at DCI Finals in Miami, FL All Age 1st time - 2003 - Soprano with the CorpsVets at the DCA South Championships in Rockmart, GA Last time - 2004 - Baritone with the CorpsVets at DCA Finals in Scranton, PA Other Lasts 1978 - National Squad with the Los Comancheros Winter Guard, somewhere in AL at the SECGC Championships 2005 - Baritone with the Echoes of New Orleans D&BC during the Krewe of Napoleon parade
  5. Didn't Santa march with the Bridgemen? Just kidding. Merry Christmas everybody!!!
  6. We did a show on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field (okay, it really wasn't frozen because it was summer) when I was with the Phantom Regiment. What a beautiful field to march on! And we won the show.
  7. LMAO!!! Didn't we all push buses at some point.
  8. I could see them bringing back Triumphal March Into Rome, Prelude To Battle, and Apotheosis. Don's right. As much of Khachaturian's ballet we put on the field in 1981 and 1982, there was still plenty more of the ballet that could be performed.
  9. Well, it's still an exciting time in the history of the corps. I won't compare the 2008 show with the 1981 or 1982 show. They're apples and oranges. There's more to Khatchaturian's Spartacus than we put on the field and I hope this corps can take advantage of that. Dana, good to see you on the forum, brother!! ^OO^ If this keeps up, we could have a small Spartacus reunion in this thread. B)
  10. Running 16ths in the opening fanfare? The keyboards and sops had that in '82. The lead sops practiced them every chance they got.
  11. I still like your performance of Prelude To Battle. VERY emotional. Just to read posts about the impact our shows had on other people and corps (ie, 91 Star) is staggering and humbling. Again, I am thankful. I hope the 2008 version of Spartacus has the same impact our shows did. With the skills of the Regiment's creative staff, I'm confident it will.
  12. I had the privilege of being one of the performers in the '82 Spartacus show and am thrilled the Regiment bringing the show back. Thanks to all of you who are fans of the '81 and '82 Spartacus shows. We really appreciate you. I am stoked for this year's corps and can't wait to see what Shaw and Rennick come up with. I look forward to seeing this show!! I wonder if Pat Garey and Phil Tartalone will come back and don their togas to hand out librettos once again... Hail Spartacus!!!
  13. I used to have one of those shirts. They came with either red sleeves or blue sleeves. The gator was holding a bottle of Dixie Beer, because they were a sponsor of the corps.
  14. In 1981, the Bleu Raeders and Stardusters merged for the second and last time to form the Louisiana Southernaires. We won the DCI Class A Championship that year.
  15. OMG!!! I know this guy! He was a longtime band director at my archrival high school. EXCELLENT band director! Last I heard, he retired from teaching not too long ago.
  16. You should have seen us, Madison, and Santa Clara play You'll Never Walk Alone together back in '82. That was really cool. ^OO^
  17. We did during my time with the corps, but I think they played Fire of Eternal Glory as the corps song in the '90s. Hey Regiment alums from the '90s, is that right?
  18. Yes it is! That was taken somewhere around the big crank at the end of Mourning/Uprising.
  19. Both shows had the potential to be DCI Finals shows. Who knows what whould have happened if y'all were scored properly. Bob Briske did blow a gasket in '83 when all the Midwest corps took a beating at DCI Midwest. Still trying to figure how you seriously improve your overall execution from DCI Midwest Prelims and get the same exact Finals score as you did in Prelims, 75.75. That officially took us out of the running for the 1983 DCI Championship. Who says there's no bias in DCI judging? :P
  20. OMG!! A Raeder '78 shot! You're right. It is from the '78 show. Although I'm not in the pic, I was one of the two rifles on the field.
