  1. Cab Alumni, Please take care of Mark Porter who the Kingsmen Alumni Corps has sent to you on loan for this year. He has this Kasa de Kontra thing he will introduce to the corps and the Kontras will blow away the sops and the ladies of the corps will all go Kontra. Mark, Perhaps you can get Charlie Groh to join you.
  2. For a good photo op, go to: ocregister.com and you can see a great photo collage in the local newspaper. A great story also.
  3. 15 snares, 10 tenor, 10 base drums, 9 cymbals, 5 marching tympani and about 10 in the pit.
  4. To bad you ween't selling these 2 years ago. We could have used them in Anaheim, CA. when we started buying one bugle at a time. Come out and see the Kingsmen Alumni Corps dress rehearsal on Wednesday, Aug 8 at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. We will have two other corps performing. For $10 you will have great seats and see history made before our show at DCI on Friday. Parking is most likely free. We will have just finished 5 days of camp and will be ready to blow the stadium down. It looks like the final count in the horn line is at 140. Don't need to talk about the guard, all you have to do is read the comments about our show on July 14 at Long Beach Veteran's Stadium. The 24 rifles, 32 flags and 20 plus in the National/Honor Guard is worth the price of admission by themselves. I will have Two King K90's for sale if anyone is interested. These would be good canidates for a Kanstul conversion kit. With a reasonable offer we would commit to selling and deliver after our show. These two play great and have performed well with us. They are missing losts of silver plate but with a little buffing, who knows. Thanks for everyone's help on DCP the past two years. Joe Rybus, Diplomats 1967-1970 Velvet Knights 1970-1971 Anahein Kingsmen 1972-1974 Kingsmen Alumni Corps, Co-Founder and purveyor of G Bugles 2005-2007
  5. Sorry for "borrowing the Gourley's and Wes Hare. We in Anaheim like all three of them with us. Wes is getting married in the next two weeks, Enjoy it Wes, before you go west on a honeymoon with the Kingsmen. See you at Semi's.
  6. We just got the uniforms that day and the hem was put in with pins so the alterations could be made for the next time we pull them out for the real thing. 150 brass, 16 snares and 24 contras. We could still use one contra and a couple of baris and sops if somone out there wants to be part of this historic event. Since day one we have been open to non Kingsmen alums and welcome any qualified musician to join us. We ordered some extra uniforms and you could be marching at the Rose Bowl with 300 members of the Kingsmen Alumni Corps this August. PM or call me at 949-400-6577. Joe Rybus
  7. Gary, You are relentless. Keep up the great work. So many work so hard for our few 15 minutes of fame here and there.
  8. The Kingsmen Alumni Corps has at least three members living in Flordia. One of them Bob Amaya is here in town this weekend for one of our monthly camps (as is Keith Wilbur from Tampa area, AK 71-72) and he marched with the Madison Scouts Alumni Corps last year and is with us this year. He is an alumni of the SCV from 73-74 on cymbals and Madison in 1975 on Rifle and appeared on the Gong Show back in the day on multiple ocassions wearing a Kingsmen uniform on Rifle and won at least twice. Thank You guys for your hugh commitment.
  9. Good Luck! Better call Zig for an order like this. You will most likely never find what you need.
  10. Hey John Walker, Have your Dad call me, if he marched Kingsmen in the 70's he'll want to talk to me 949-400-6577. The Olds Pisotn rotor was indeed sold beginning in 1968. Make sure he gets the Ultratone and not the Duratone. Kingsmen only marched Ultratone, the Duratone was more of an east coast horn with a satin nickle finish on the exterior of the horn. The interior of the bell would still have been chrome like the Ultratone. The case was Black with a white trim and the interior was a beautiful blue crushed velvet. The smell would have traces of Valve Oil and spit valves. John, Tell your father that the Kingsmen are back on the field and we'll be performing at DCI next year with you. You could both march the same show together. If he doesn't call?
  11. I am surprised that the Classic Cavaliers are marching old drums, I've heard that they're playing on Bb horns to accomodate the younger members. The two don't jive. Sorry people, it looks like one of those contra spots has been filled. For any brass player out there. One day in camp in June we stood in an arc of 92 Brass, what a rush. At the Walnut show, it was 90 Brass on the field. At camp in 2007, we will have just under 150 Brass in the arc (a very big arc) and in August, Holy Cow Batman! The good thing for all of drum corps is that the majority of these members haven't participated in drum corps for over 25 years and most about 32 years on average. We're all coming home. Playing the warm-up chorale that Gary Kean wrote with 90+ horns was amazing. With 150, I can only imagine. Join us and be there and play in the ARC. And watch and feel the gray hair on your arms rise. We do have about a dozen under 30 that keep us sane. Thank you Madison Scouts, as Lynn Holly wrote on her photo and presented to you at practice "You guys have really raised the bar"
  12. All of the alumni corps before us have inspired us to do this and with our unique memory of 1972 and all that we were there that night in the rain, appreciate us. I marched that night at Whitewater at 16 years of age after five seasons in two local drum corps, the Diplomats of Lynwood and the Velvet Knights. The KAC is a corps exactly like myself, mostly Kingsmen alumni and some friends that understand what this is all about. Our Director Gary Kean wrote a check for the downpayment on 240 cadets yesterday. Our first full order due in the next few weeks will be for more than 250. As the co-founder of this corps and so very involved we will be something that you will all want to see. In the next 7 days, I will complete this post. I am responding as I appreciate all of the DCP audience and Guy Winton said it well. Yes, if you've ever wanted to see Disneyland, this is the year. I would suggest visiting the park on Tuesday, August 7, 2008. might just see 300 + Kingsmen there. And that's right 5 marching tymps. Many piston rotors. Al Muray, maybe (contact dynasty.com to get him there) and Tom Float, my fellow commuter to Kingsmen and Diplomat's for 6 years, he is listed. Our journey has been incredible, Thank You. We ordered unifroms for 21 contras that have paid the $$$ with five people still on the fence, we have three spots left to fill? Who amongst you is man or woman enough? Come out four times in the next 11 months and you will have a hugh memory the rest of your life. Sorry, French horn line at 16 is full. Mellophone line is also full at 16. These middle horns ROCK. Someone might "pass" so if you are really good and want to make the commitment, contact me.
  13. As one of the founding members of the Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni Corps and the Director of Operations of the corps, we are not going to be a one year wonder. We had three perfromances in 2006, including two at DCI sanctioned shows. My personal avatar is 2009 and Beyond. We've been dormant too many years to walk away after DCI next year. We still have so many alumni to find that have been lost for up to four decades, it won't be fair to all of them to not have a chance to march again. With now over 127 brass on our active list, our average age in the line is still at 49 years of age. We marched 90 Brass in June at the DCI Walnut show with 184 persons on the field that night. We want 150 brass next year at DCI Semis's. Come West, Ladies and Gentlemen. We have over 265 people who have paid membership fees. In the first week of September, we plan on placing our first order of about 200 Kingsmen Cadet Uniforms circa 1972, the same ones we got on tour and debuted in Mid-Late July of 1972. Just ask the 27th Lancers, they worked! Just to clarify the rumors. We will march 300+ next year. Our years of active junior corps is as follows: Beginning in the early 60's (ask Charlie Groh and Mike Wraight) with Boy Scout Troop 72 and later the Anaheim Scouts and becomming the Kingsmen in about 1964. We marched through 1974 and took the 1975 year off to regroup financially (ie pay off debts from 73-74)after perhaps our best corps. The corps marched DCI again from 1976-1978, reorganized and again went to DCI from 1982-1986. After that a few great comp guards (two under Sal Salas) and incredible drum lines with Tom Float through the years. Reality is since 1978, only 5 years at DCI and never finished better than 23rd or so. We thank all of you for your support. Very few of our members have marched with any corps in nearly 30 years. My last year in the Kingsmen was in 1974 after 8 years in So Cal drum corps and my story is similiar to the majority in the corps. We will also have a dress rehearsal show on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 here just two days before our DCI show on Friday, August 10. Having seen Madison at both their dress rehearsal and DCI show (and both rehearsal days in between), don't miss our show in person. I've seen the Madison video from DCI and it was nothing compared to being in the stadium that night or witnessing the dress rehearsal two nights before. Tickets to our dress rehearsal will be only $10 per person. Come out and see So Cal for the week. This is the first and perhaps last for a long time show on the west coast for DCI Finals. Don't let this once in a half century chance pass without joining us. Please follow our web site at xkingsmen.com for great 2007 tour Shirts and all infor Kingsmen. Most likely we will never compete at DCA, however we would love to see you in the mini corps show. Would anyone want to see us next year at DCA with a mini corps?
  14. This is the best ticket in town and only $10. Memorial High Schoold at 8PM. See 110+ Brass and a great show.
