  1. Missed most of it except for Spartans, East Coast and Jersey Surf. All were excellent. Thought Surf would have been a little bit closer point wise.
  2. People on here asked for a review. Someone gave that review, whether good or bad, A review is an opinion, and this guy gave his. To threaten him by turning him into the government for stating his opinion that was requested by participants in this forum is ridiculous. I never thought I'd see someone who gave their views on a Drum Corps Show be subjected to disciplinary action. I thought we as Americans stood for freedom of speech.
  3. July 29th, Kennedy Stadium, 6:30 p.m. Nine (9) juniors in competition. One (1) start up junior corps in exhibition. Also performing exhibitions: Connecticut Hurricanes, Connecticut Alumni and host corps Park City Pride. Competitive Drum Corps returns to Bridgeport. WELCOME BACK.
  4. lost my wife to a bugle. i insisted she stay with fritos but she demanded those #### bugle chips. they don't regurgitate to good. now hosting open house for number #2. preferably northeastern.
  5. I agree, 2004 DCA show was horrible. If it wasn't for the newly established and supposedly one-time performance only by the Park City Pride, the stands would have only had 1/2 the total attendence. The landscape has changed in Bridgeport, once a major player, along with the Newark NJ. area as mecca's of Drum anf Bugle Corps. One contributory factor was that ST. Raphael's Parish was right down the street from Kennedy Stadium. They sponsored 3 Drum Corps at one time, the Golden Buccaneers were the show piece. Many parishoniers lived near or around the stadium and attended any and all Drum Corps events held there. You would attend one of St. Raphael's shows and the stadium woud be packed with knowledgeable Drum Corps fans. Sadly, the decline of youth orientated programs which were the major factor to the participation and success of the many Bridgeport area junior progams that began in the 50's, crested in the 60's and eventually died in the early 70's. I do believe the Barnum Festival has been on the decline for many years, due to the many factors listed above. The GREAT STREET PARADE is and has been for the past 20 years non existent. Poor marketing and lack of advertising by the Barnum Foundation for it's 2 major showcases, Parade of Champions and the Great Street Parade has contributed its demise. Hopefully, they will smarten up and provide the people of Bridgeport with a classic showpiece of great Drum Corps competition. I however do not agree with those who say Bridgeport should'nt have occured the 1st week of July because of a show in Dover NJ this year or on Long Island last year. The Barnum has been held for over 50 years. Though it has been suffering due to bad administrative decisions lately, it is still a major showcase in the northeast for Drum Corps. Don't blame Barnum for scheduling conflicts. They still are a Major player for this activity. Last time I checked Allentown was 70 miles from Dover NJ while Bridgeport was 90 miles away. Yet nobody complained about Allentown detracting from the audience., My opinion is Barnum should be re-established to provide the people of Bridgeport with the Drum and Bugle Corps competitions they have been have so sorely been missing over decades. Present a Junior DCI and All-Age DCA show, imaging the great Dream Shows of the past. Like the clip from Field of Dreams, "build it, they will come".
  6. I have great respect for DCA as they will probably remain the only true Drum Corps circuit once pianos and woodwinds are allowed in DCI. Fascinating!
  7. I go to the Symphony to hear the beautiful sound and blend of all the different instruments. I go to the POPS which provide the same blend of instruments but I'm usually more familiar with the selections. Usually these presentations are indoors. I attend Drum and Bugle Corps competitions because I can observe what can be done with the same musical selections of both the Sympony and POP orchestra only in BRASS and DRUMS. This is normally done not only outdoors, but in full competitive marching performance. Last time I checked, DCI stood for Drum Corps International. If DCI adds woodwinds, I'll probably save some money and just attend the Symphony, as true Drum and Bugle Corps will cease to exixt .
  8. never having played a horn since 1968, i'm re-living my youth and at the same time enjoying marching and partying with old adverseries. thats what its all about
  9. I'M FIGURING THE BRIDGEMEN WOULD HAVE A MINIMUM OF 4,000 ON THEIR OWN. THEIR REMARKABLE RETURN IN SUCH SHORT NOTICE DESERVES IT. WHEN ADDING IN THE OTHER GREAT CORPS IN EXHIBITION I GUESS I'LL NEED A SCALPER IF ANT, TO GET GOOD SEATS. TOO BAD ROOSEVELT STADIUM IS GONE. WOULD BE LIKE GOING TO HEAVEN.
  10. REMEMBER THE LINE FROM THE MOVIE JAWS, "YOU'RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT"?
  11. PARK CITY HAS THEIR PERFORMANCE FROM HARRISBURG ON WEBSITE.
  12. I hadn't participated in drum corps for 35 years until I was contacted in early 2004 about a reunion show. I attended the organizational meeting and met many friends and former foes from my old drum corps days. You could sense a bond was beginning amongst us that very first day. Most people in attendance that day were in the same boat I was, no drum corps activity in 30 plus years. We accomplished our goal of a one-time performance in less than 3 short months. However, we had so much fun and pride in what we were doing we decided to keep it going and have put out a very good product. I wish we had gotten together years ago.
  13. SHADOW, I AGREE WITH YOU WHOLE HEARTEDLY
  14. I understand the oft mentioned P.A.L BUCCANEERS will be hosting an indoor show in Bridgeport on March 11th. I see Park City and Sky Alumni have already posted it on their schedules. Anyone know who else will be there? Whether in "G" or "Bb", I plan on attending as this is a money making event for the return of junior drum corps to the Bridgeport area.
  15. It's the P.A.L. BUCCANEERS from BRIDGEPORT, no affiliation with the BRIGADIERS.
  16. go back to the tic system, end all arguments.
  17. can you imagine if the boston crusaders, st. kevins emerald knights, light brigade and pembroke imperials joined forces tomorrow? how about alumnus from blessed sac, hawthorne muchachos, garfield, st.lucys, st.patricks, woodsiders, st.andrews and audubon joining forces for a great exhibition corps? wouldn't they be considered as a combined drum corps alumni who are advancing the activity? of course they all come from different corps, neighborhoods and backrounds. but, oh, what great corps they would be. bridgeport did it right, from what i understand, putting away long standing animosities to put quality drum corps back on the map. i would consider anyone who marched in any drum corps and who came back an alumni of drum corps, period.
