New SCV Staff Coordinator
Moe712002 replied to yellowbusredux's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The new Director position is considered full time. -
Finally, something. I hope she's a strong lady and is left to do her job. Strong because she'll probably have to deal with the same c**p that has driven the other staff members away.

New SCV Staff Coordinator
Moe712002 replied to yellowbusredux's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Rick's contract ends October 31 and yes, he's been more than happy, ready and available to help in this transition period. Unfortunately, he has not been utilized. -
Geez, I wonder when SCV is going to get a staff? A director? Audition info posted? Anything?

My worst fears about the ESPN2 broadcast...
Moe712002 replied to Hrothgar15's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Mine too. -
It probably does officially begin at that time but I guess it's up to the local stations as to when they want to begin their broadcast, at least that's what it appears.
-
Yeah, I see what you're saying. Even in Devil country, it doesn't even start until the next morning at 8:00 a.m. That stinks!

Just a reminder or in case you didn't know. This is from BD's website. Very cool. What a win for them. BDEntertainment to Perform at the Jerry Lewis Telethon Does anyone think of Jerry Lewis these days and the Labor Day Week-end without thinking of one of the most star-studded fund raising events to ever exist? BDE will open with a great flourish the 2005 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Sunday September 4. The live broadcast begins at 6:00 PM from the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. The producers are insisting we keep secret their ideas for the start of the show, so make sure you tune in.

You bet, will do. Pete still lives in Santa Clara with his wife and two boys.
-
I'm not sure when but I believe the first factor was probably the fact that the State Open contest held in Santa Clara in early October was no longer held so the last contest of the season became, in fact, DCI Finals. The second factor probably has to do with the fact that as the Corps, like most Corps these days, became less of a local Corps, Finals was the last time the entire Corps would be together for that season.

Rick Valenzuela's resignation
Moe712002 replied to vanguard8687's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Also, I hope SCV appoints a Director who can return the corps back into the hunt for a championship. Best wishes to both. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When I think of the people that will be making this decision, it's frightening. Unqualified and incompetent. I guess we can pray for divine intervention. -
Rick Valenzuela's resignation
Moe712002 replied to vanguard8687's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Let's just say that Rick has been fed up for a while and really wanted to hold on but just couldn't anymore. His resignation had nothing to do with living three hours from Santa Clara, the 8th place finish this year at Finals or anything else like that. He couldn't deal with the management anymore and rightfully so. -
Wow, I am good friends with the Romos (in fact, just saw Tony yesterday) and have gotten back in touch with Mike Braga since we marched the TOR parade together in 2004. Drum corps is a small world, I guess. Mike is a frequent poster on DCP.

My ageout year was 1975 and we still performed in the State Open contest in early October. The green feather ceremony was held right before that show and we performed with our green feathers in out hats. The next day was the State Open parade and we wore them there also. The banquet was usually held that evening after the parade.
-
I find it kind of odd that you marched in the years you did and even with 27th (one of the bigger Corps in those days) and have never heard of this SCV tradition? Is that true?

Capital Regiment staff changes
Moe712002 replied to oldbandguy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Breaks my heart that these two extremely talented and dedicated individuals are not with SCV. Capital Regiment is very lucky to have them. -
Thank you Rick Valenzuela
Moe712002 replied to Pizazzman's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
PeeWee, Rick's job wasn't voluntary. Come on, get real. Rick did get paid a salary but nowhere near what he should have been paid. -
Geezus, makes you wonder about any of these judges qualifications.
-
There are a few of us SCV alums going on Sunday. Should be great after four days of drum corps!

Many people have attempted to honestly answer this question on this forum but all they do is get slammed by people who refuse to believe it or have no clue anyway. Therefore, I seriously doubt anyone will even bother to try and answer your question again. Oh wait, I will...SCV has serious organizational problems from top to bottom. It's just finally manifesting itself in the final product this year.

Hi Harry!!! Been waiting to read your review. I love your reviews because you are honest and to the point without a bunch of gratuitous fluffy BS. Appreciate that. It was so great to see you yesterday and Glenn and I looked for you after the show but figured you got the heck out of Dodge. Anyway good to see you. I totally agree with your review SCV's show. And remember what we talked about. It's important.

Hey Mike, Just a few weeks ago, Paul Olivo (fellow SCV alum) told me that Bob Kalkofen recently showed up at San Jose State to see Scott Pierson. Apparently, the two have stayed in touch over the years and Bob was in the area. I believe Paul said that Bob lives in Denver. Not sure what he does for a living but is not associated with drum corps anymore.

Of course, I love the SCV uniform - I wore one from 71 thru 75. Red, green and white should always be their colors. However, I do agree that the current shade of green is just too bright and there is no color contrast when they face back field. I think the dark forest green that they previously wore is much richer and classier. I really loved their unis from 97 thru 01. When they walked onto the field wearing them the first time in 97, they looked like Santa Clara again. Huge impact on me.
