  1. I find it somewhat funny (if not unpredictable) that people here have no idea what they are talking about. Troopers had money problems. It should not be rocket science to figure this out. Furthermore, they had some "fuzzy" issues regarding their status as a 501-C3. As a member of a parent organization (in tax statute law, DCI would be seen as the parent organization), the parent organization is REQUIRED to ensure that respective members of their organization follow GAAP and tax regulations. Troopers were not doing this. From a liablity standpoint, DCI had to "cut bait" because they could/would be ultimately responsible. On a side note, Im a tax attorney, and I never thought that my career and one of my passions would intersect....
  2. A little bird told me that it had to do with Troopers not meeting financial obligations, both to DCI (internal) and outside vendors (external).
  3. If Capital Regiment can improve their guard, they will be in finals next year. A little bird told me that there are going to be unreal incentives ($) to recruit highly trained guard members. CR has one of the most solid financial pictures in DCI - I think next year they will draw upon this to make it into the top 12. GREAT YEAR CR! I want 3 Ohio corps to make into the finals. That would be amazing.
  4. I was talking to my friend today and she was surprised that Captial Regiment made semi-finals. I'm not, I think they are a corps with a very bright future. I think they might even surprise everyone and make it into finals Capital Regiment has one of the most solid financial solid groups in all of DCI. I think they could easily become a top 10 corps in the next 2 years if they follow my *unsolicitated* advice -Place MAJOR focus on strenghtening the guard. CR did an amazing job of dealing with some major challenges this year. They need to secure a strong staff and recruit experienced guard members. With the strength of winterguard in Ohio, this should be logical. -Speaking of recruiting, CR needs to continue to make inroads in recruiting local talent. Ohio has some of the best high school marching bands in the country and should be able to recruit some superstars. -Pick a crowd-pleasing show. This truly is the Little Corps That Could - pick a show that reflects that. Although much easier said than done, pick a show that, while keeping in mind innocative drill and music, is easily accessable for crowds. I am very happy to see they made finals. I grew up in Columbus and when I marched, there were no corps in Columbus. I am very excited to see this corps continue to grow and succeed!
  5. Hi Ya'll I was having a discussion today with a co-worker. They were shocked when I said that DCI is very welcoming of gays and that there is a sizable (if not majority) of gay population in each one of the corps. He thought that there was one or two "gay corps" (his words, not mine) but that most were overwhelmingly straight. i marched blue devils, and allmost all of the women were straight. with the boys, i would say 50% straight. 50%gay. what would you say?
