  1. If found that typically, smaller minds tend to plaster phrases and short little quips on themselves or their property as a matter of expression. I understand that its ok not to enjoy amplification, but I just wish people would facilitate that in a more respectful way. (Like, I dont know, maybe getting some popcorn instead of sitting and booing or actually speaking or writing to a staff member/designer on the corps staff of your choice) Those kids give everything up for a summer to perform for the fans, and what do we do in return? Wear shirts that bash them left and right and boo them.
  2. I dont recall any drill moves that have brought tears to my eyes.
  3. SCV got that from a marching band in 99.
  4. Uh, music and drill design fall under "the arts". Visual and musical.
  5. There was booing in Indy when Cadets were announced over Cavies. I guess ignorance can even run rampant in the drum corps world.
  6. Considering that the 01-03 programs were origional music, the composer would definately cater it to the drill. I have no problem with new music at all, I just dont like the way Saucedo writes, it seems more like its supposed to impress people rather than move them emotionally.
  7. Corps, not band. I really dont see why soo much of a focus is put on scoring. Seems to me that people are seeing drum corps too much like a sport rather than a performing art.
  8. The name and the lewd sexual refrences give it all away. I suggest you take your trolling elsewhere.
  9. I first saw Star 93 when my HS did a rendition of Medea as our closer. I believe it was the first DCI show I ever saw. It blew my socks off then and still does now. It still amazes me that they that on 2 valved horns!
  10. If you look at the backfield camera views from 89 you can see Arrowhead stadium was packed to the brim. I dont remember seeing a bigger crowd at world finals, but then again I havent seen every year of Drum corps. As far as shows go, Its really hard for me to pick a time. I guess I would go with 86-91.
  11. The booing was uncalled for. Thankfully the members of the Cavies themselves act better than some of the fans do. A close friend of mine is in the hornline this year, those guys dont care about winning, they just have fun. I remember him telling me about audition camp and Jeff (I think) saying "If you came here to win a world championship, there's the door" I'm also glad to see the boys from Rockford rewarded for their great playing.
  12. I go to a DCI show to be entertained, I dont think of DCI as a sporting event. The desire to win, and the general thrill of competition drives some corps and alot of the fans, but it really doesnt bother me. I think that too many people are bashing a program because it isnt exactly what they want, instead of just accepting it as what it is. If a new idea or innovation upset me that much, then I guess I would just go get some popcorn, instead of trying to limit what a growing activity can and cannot do. This thread was made because people feel unhappy about the placement that SCV and Xmen are getting right? Since when has that mattered to a real fan? I had the privelage of watching both corps perform in Indy this past saturday and I was impressed with their program and I appreciated it for what it was. I remember earlier someone saying that there isnt enough emphasis on music, I agree. But I wouldnt go after judges throats, but instead the brass staff of said corps. I dont want people going for my throat, but there are a few shows in recent years that didnt cross my ears as musical, but instead just impressive. Overall I wish the best for Xmen and SCV for the rest of the season, I just hope that the fans see how little scoring and placement matter. Hopefully a few alumni can back me on saying that the experience greatly outweighs the outcome on finals night.
