  1. I gotta say, i know i am a well known, maybe not well respected, but definately well known amongst the ranks of the current sunriser generation, and i wish i knew of drum corps before 2000, so i could have started with this insanity earlier, and yes sayre, i was really tired and just tgryoing to keep this thread at the top.
  2. how will it better next so our prospective members can know
  3. LOL HAHAHA I was there, that should be on Ripley's believe it or not or in the Guinness World Book of Records, Fastest to eat a steak without teeth! Tom could be the only sunriser with a Guinness ertificate, and his own TV special with Ripley's.
  4. we still have wing it ins, at the end of practice, i usually try to sit on nicks feet or something, or stand with the section, all 3 of us lined up together
  5. ambulance, i don't think so, it's more like the ambulance is strapped to your shoulder, and blowing through the tailpipemakes the siren makes lots of noise
  6. so i was at the hospital visiting my grandmother(don't worry everything is ok), and my mom and i walk through a door, and realize that its the wrong way and we are both parked on the complete opposite side of the building, so i try the door, and it's locked, the security guy looks at me, i say we are parked on the other side, he said we gotta walk around the outside, as i turn around, he stops me and says, "your jakcet says sunrisers, the same sunrisers from long island,?" of course i say yes, he tells me he will unlock the door for my mom and i , i ask him how he knew drum corps, he said his brother or cousin marched in the saint lucy's cadets, i'm too young toknow who they were, but i said cool and thanked him for unlocking the door, and made the trip to the car wuicker and safer, walking around the block in newark nj in the middle of the night is not exactly the smartest thing to do, as my mom and i are walking, she says to me, josh you must be famous or something, i just smile
  7. LOL HAHA man bubba shortcuts, buying food and eating it during parades, haven't tried eating during a parade yet, but this is what drum corps is about old stories, that you can all hear if you come to the open house. i know for bridgeport a couple years back, my brother, actually my twin brother came up to hang with me for the day and helped move pit equipment for the show, well, for the parade that morning we ran out of water, so nick sent my brother to the store we had just passed to get some more water, and the skyliners were behind us somewhere, and no one believed me wheni marched with them that i had a twin brother. well, they met him that day, called him josh, and he said no i am jose(standard spanish name, given either because you don't know what to name your kid or in honor of the other 5 guys in the family went the name) quite hilarious. but i did once hold up my highschool marching band from leaving philly while i was getting a cheesesteak, when in rome, you know,
  8. man can't wait for open house, i know nick will provide food, but there is this little pizzeria that has some of the best salad pizza, yes i said it, salad pizza around, and the other stuff is awesome, eat there all winter during practice, well not during practice, you know, during lunch
  9. just because 2006 finals has come and gone, doesn not mean the season is not over, it's the off season, but corps will always be here as long as we talk, hang out, just keep in contact with each other in between finals and open house, and drum corps will never be over, the off season is still a season we can use to have fun
  10. Just so everyone knows, i have a shirt that reads "WILL MARCH FOR FOOD" lunch is my favorite break,
  11. Just like to add that at the Sunriser open house, which is taking place the sunday of thanksgiving weekend, only way i remember becauseit involves food, mass quantities of it going into my stomach, don't know the exact date, but its that weekend on the sunday after the shopping is done, at 1pm to i think 6pm, check the Sunrisers website at sunrisers.com, and yeah we do a meet and greet, staff and members, go the goals and plans and show for the year, and a tentative schedule, and play some warm ups, and i think we had some food last year, my favorite part of that rehearsal
  12. Sun was approx $175, not sure, end up helping drive the equipment truck to ease the director off my back about dues, $21 for hotels when we have camps, $15-$25 for a bus if involved, $10 corps member shirt to wear under uniform, the famous orange superman shirts, you pay for your own white mtx, gas food, and whatever other cost you have to pay for the get to corps, and DCA weekend usually cost the bus fare, plus $80 for your part of the hotel room, unless you decide to get your own room, and not share with 3 other plus persons
  13. I gotta say, as a small corps in the north east, and being with sun since they came back in 2002, it's really fricken hard to recruit and keep members. i can honestly say from 200to 2006 season, we have had 7 members consistent, and after 2002 the core of the corps has grown, but has also grown from recruiting teenagers, who don't exactly have the money or the time to march dci, for example, a couple of our pit girls swamped weekends in college to make sure our pit was full, but they all showd up for finals which was amazing, and we have had a few kids march what would have been their age out year in dca, and there is also the problem of the big name thing, with Cabs Bush Hurcs and even sky recruiting from the same area, and alumni corps (so many corps in the north east it great, and horrible) once they hear the corps is not large, they like to go into an established group. and that brings up another issue of people not wating to join a corps to help them build. i have had to talk to a few of our rookies at finals about that. they did not like that sun came in the place that we did, so they wanted to quit and join other corps, or jump into a junior corps, even though they might not be financially ready, or they just got cocky " i did a summer of drum corps, i am better then my fellow kids in highschool" mentality, I could go on and on, and probably a lot of us from small corps could go on and on about the reasons why we are not the same size as other groups, but hey, it's just plain difficult, and somebody has to be small guy sometimes, But to be positive about it, the best thing to do in my opinion, but also the hardest, is bringing people to join the core of the corps, the members that come back year after year, that is really the best way to keep consistent numbers year to year.
  14. so if you up the mini corps number up to 30, why not just march in class A, i know Sun back in 2003 had about 30 playing members on the field, maybe slightly more, but it's called mini corps for a reason, it's mini, if you do up the numbers, then it would be, lets do a small corps competition and not have to march and just get judged on music competition, Being from a corps that came back into existence in mini corps then jumping to the field the following year, i like the the way the rules are set up to keep things the way they should be, or at least what is generally accepted to all participants in DCA,
  15. Hurcs are in G and if you are gonna travel or think about cabs, youcould think about Bush around the corner from cabs, Skyliners in Dover NJ, or even my corps the sunrisers in Rockland County NY, but again do the research as everyone is saying to find a corps that would fir your needs, contact the directors or any recruiting staff they might have in place to gather information Sky in G Sun in G Bush in Bb, i think?not sure don't quote on me on that
  16. well if you play it in a senior corps then yes you are aloowed to play, but you are going to need to transpose the music
  17. Ok i have Mission Incontrable, i am emailing to gulfcoastsound so they can put it on their scum page, www.gulfcoastsound.com/scum, also, if you can download dixie,m that would be great, i will make as many copies as i can because this did come out so late, middle of a move, i apologize, and also for dca the plan will be to just meet up around the I&E area, meet and greet, with everyone that shows up, and pick a spot to play, very informal, it's just to use the hype that has been generated, and not get fined by dca byu holding up finals or anything, Again i apologize for the lateness of this announcement see you friday night
  18. Ok, We need to start gathering a list of names, so we can get an idea of exactly how many of our brethren we will be playing with us, so please eiter private message me, or go to the myspace group http://groups.myspace.com/seniorcontraunionmember, or go to the DCA SCUM forum, http://www.dcascum.com, we need to get a clear idea of who is going to be there, and music announcements will be coming shortly
  19. yeah ~ first day of my drum corps career Loops came up to me and introduced himself as President of SCUM and all the SCUM-ssociates in Hurcs. 15 years later i'm still haunted by these memories LOL
  20. you're in, can't be discriminatory because of key, i like g, but that is my preference for drum corps, please don't trun this into a G versus B-Flat thing, any keyed hunk of metal being carried on the shoulder that is the lowest instrument in the drum corps you play in is allowed
  21. how fast could we distribute music so people of our kind can start practicing, we can figure out an exact time frame of where to perform
  22. That is pretty clean, i think that could be printed anywhere
