  1. Ok, all this banter back and forth is fruitless and meaningless. There are several points to consider here. To the 20yo who felt slighted at rehearsal: They are extending the privilege to you of being able to watch them rehearse. Many groups hold closed rehearsals, especially when there are changes being made to the show. As was stated before, there was videoing going on the day before, they ended up on youtube (which is a MAJOR copyright infringement and could possibly affect legal action toward the performing group down the road), and you returned for day 2 of videoing. How are you surprised at this reaction? You admitted yourself that you asked your "friend" to remove the videos asap. You knew it was not the right thing to do. You posted "So the Cadets staff assumed that I was the one who posted the videos on YouTube and were out to get me." Well, you have a freaking camera in your hand! And you where there the day before! And the videos (either you or your friend, it doesn't really matter) ended up online! Seems to me, the Cadets staff added 2+2 and got 4! You are giving yourself too much credit that they are out to get you. They just wanted you to use your brain and have a little common sense. They should have asked you to leave. They are adding things to the show that, George said, they are still working on getting rights for public performance. This is why these rules exist in the first place. How would you like to be an artist, have someone make a lot of money off of your music, but never give you credit or pay you the royalty you deserve as the creator? This is why copyright and performance laws exist. Also, can you please explain what "personal use" is for video taking? Can you not pay for Cadets All Access or even DCI Fan Network like the rest of us? I get the feeling you basically wanted to get people all fired up on here and think its funny. You would have never came in here and dangled a carrot if you did not fully expect to get a response. "Had an interesting experience at rehearsal tonight.....not sure if I'm going to post about it though. I am really upset though." How immature. Just keep it to yourself in the future. Ok, someone was rude to you. Aw shucks, let me get you a kleenex. You put your camera away, but they still were keeping an eye on you. You were either doing something wrong, or had the appearance of that (ever heard of guilty by association?). I would have too if it was my butt on the line. If stuff got out they were trying out in rehearsal that was not approved for public performance, that is THEIR butt, not yours. Can we please move on to things that actually are positive and pertinent instead of intentionally starting this negative dribble about an outstanding drum corps.
  2. I hope you plan on coming to the DCI show at King's Fork High School in Suffolk, VA on July 7. Crossmen will be there! Cadets are also going to be there...they are staying at King's Fork and doing a Music is Cool clinic during the day. See you there.....Downtown Norfolk is only 20 mins from the school.
  3. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in marching throughout the Mid-Atlantic! There simply is no close Drum Corps option for kids from Virginia. Hope to see a great turnout!!!
  4. Ok, so I am going to put this rest once and for all. As I stated, I filled in for the Bari tech for the winter/spring season up until Move-In. When the hired Bari Tech came back, they offered me to come and tech, but could not pay me. I could not tour and give up my job for no bills. I was at all the camps from December until May, and it was one of the best educational experiences of my life. Looking back, I should have just jumped on tour and did it, but regrettably I didn't. I really don't need all Crossmen alums from the past 20 years coming on here and saying thanks, don't know you, goodbye. I was a young teacher that was given a chance for a couple weekends. A guy that was there 1/3 of the time and was just a fill in 8 years ago would problably not be engrained in my corps experience either. I am a HUGE Crossmen fan for god sakes. Give me a break. Can we talk constructively about the show, or just keep it to yourself. Go Bones....!!!!!
  5. Hey Al...you do remember me. I have visited NYC a few times and hung out with you at the Letterman show. You don't remember Diet Dr. Pepper spilling on your boots? lol This is BIG Bob from VA..... Good to see you at Chesapeake
  6. Ok, so comments like these make me hate the way people cannot take constructive criticism in drum corps. A non-paid bari tech that was getting his feet wet 8 years ago has problably done some other things since then. Howabout you email me and we can discuss resumes. brassinstructor@yahoo.com 2 accounts.....you have to be kidding me...you need to either get a clue or life. This is a public forum and chastizing people should not be on your agenda for just writing a freaking review of a mediocre drum corps show. It shouldn't matter if I was the potato slicer for the Pawtucket Jets Drum Corps in 1955. Oh, and Hi Drew. How is Married life? I talked to your dad the other day when I went to M&A to get a horn fixed for a student.
  7. I was a Bari Tech for the entire winter/spring season in 00-01 thanks. The normal guy couldn't be there until tour. I even ran ensemble a couple times.....I am sorry I am forgettable and not in the cool guys club. I was just a fill in and they asked me to tour without pay....it was my first drum corps teaching experience. I could not tour for free and I do not know why everyone is drinking haterade....I Love the Crossmen and think they are on the right track, but the show was just poorly designed. Take a look at the recaps and tell me that I am alone in that opinion? They have horses in the corps, but the books are just...well....not doing it. BTW here is a review from someone else just posted in another thread from the same show. "Crossmen: the brass arrangements just do not work for me, and percussion was not a tight job tonight. I thought brass performance has improved since Madison, but I don't think the book is very effective. I thought the guard was decent tonight and the visual package is probably the best part of the show, but it may be a bit late to attempt major musical re-writes............."
  8. Edited because apparantly I have created a witchhunt. I should have just kept it to myself.
  9. Carolina Gold is at the Courtyard Brighton. Not sure who else is there.... Bob
  10. We're working on it..... PS there is already a corps in Eastern NC. Click here Its not junior, but a great time nonetheless. Anyone else around here in Virginia Beach? Bob
  11. Really? Send me an email...let's talk. director07@carolinagold.org Bob Glover Director, Carolina Gold
  12. Fran, I know this is a little late, but I honestly just found out through another Gold member. The Carolina Gold family wishes Barb a speedy recovery, and you are in our prayers. Thank you both for all you do! The Carolina Gold Drum & Bugle Corps Bob Glover, Director
  13. I asked for this to be closed because this is a drum corps forum, not a political action forum. If you want to continue the political rhetoric, there are a few political blogs I can reference you to where people are actually interested in this debate. Governmental Politics have no place in drum corps. Take your argument to a place where it is relative. Can we move on to actual drum corps material, and stop this charade of he-said she-said heresay? That is all...
  14. Ok, you have wasted enough of our time. This is an art. If this is truly what YOU believe is being expressed, then so be it. You don't have to like it. You SHOULD be appreciating the young performers giving you their heart and soul for 10 mins. That should be worth the ticket price alone. If you truly believe that there is a conspiracy to bring us subliminal political jargon, then that is YOUR experience you have taken from their performance. It is a different experience for the other couple thousand in the stands. Please do your homework on what this show is about, and what it represents. Do not speak with authority on the Cadet's show design until you have sat in that meeting, and heard what the premise is. For god sakes, ENJOY THE CORPS....all of them! Let me quote Oscar Wilde, the face of existentialism: "They call it ART because it is" Chew on that for a min, and get back to me. Meanwhile, PLEASE for the love of all that is drumcorps, close this thread.
  15. The local paper here in Virginia posted this online video story after the Chesapeake, VA show last night. Enjoy! http://www.hamptonroads.tv/index.cfm?locvid=128327 PS There is a short commercial before the news story starts. They have to make a buck somehow!
  16. Thats too funny. We did 4 parades.....crowds were great and weather was the best! What a great day....enjoyed seeing some old buddies. I especially enjoyed the moan from the Bucs Contra section when I asked if they STILL play American Tapestry. Thought that was retired......... Bob
  17. I would like to publicly thank the ALLIANCE Drum & Bugle Corps for helping Carolina Gold out with housing this past Fourth of July parade tour. As part of the 4th of July Drum Corps invasion of Maryland, Carolina Gold was proud too see many of our fellow bretheren marching with us in the Baltimore area (Bucs, Alliance, Lancers, Fusion, etc). We lost our housing site the day before (something about asbestos) and the ALLIANCE admin team stepped up and helped us out. THANKS. The Drum Corps spirit is not dead...no matter what anyone says. See everyone at Mini-Corps at I&E, and on the field in 2008....the Return to GOLD has begun!! Bob Glover Director, 2007 Carolina Gold
  18. Well, im not up there much these days...I will let you know next time I am around. Maybe the Westminster Show...you going?
  19. George, you need to come to Annapolis for more adult beverages......You are the only person making any sense out of this stupid thread. My treat...its been 2 years. Bob
  20. OK people, this has got to stop. Let me give you a quarter so you can call someone who cares that you don't like narration or amps. Better yet, call 911 for the WAAAAmbulance.....that call is free. I was at the Benson show, and let me tell you, everyone around me thoroughly enjoyed the Cadet's show. Your statement that MOST people hate it.....well the 95% of the audience that was out of their seats before the release of the last note tells me your statistics are skewed. Im not a Cadet's homer....I thought Crown had a better total package......but seriously, give these kids some credit. It is a well designed show that is entertaining if you can just remove your cabeza from an orafice and realize that change is good, and that it is about having an emotional moment with these performers for 10 minutes. I challenge you to listen to the Cadets perform and not share an emotion with them.......and that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what their show is all about. This is beginning to be ironic..... That is all..... B.
