  1. Vroom,vroom,....vroom,vrom,VROOOM,vroom... Had to. My apologies
  2. Apparently he couldn't wait to order that drum... But I am a fan of Yamaha so...good choice ^OO^
  3. Kind of thought that is what I said :P If it didn't come across that way then...Yeah! What he said. :)
  4. I've jammed on the spot with a lot of fellow percussionists. Thats just what we do :). But it can still be clean. It was brought up earlier by Blackstar (I believe) that the show style bands can still be clean. Teaching counting, introducing sub-dividing would help. Granted techniques vary but you can still use control. Traditional grip, match grip, "Thumbs-up" vs. "Club" techniques doesn't matter. You still have to control the beads. An exercise that would help (IMO) is any sort of taps exercise. You can groove the crap out of those. It would enforce stick control, counting, sub-dividing, listening in, improve chops, etc.... ^0^
  5. Depending on when are arriving I would say park in a ramp somewhere on the univeristy campus. I used to that all the time when visiting friends that attended Madison. The fair was a flat rate for the weekend and was far less then $20. You would have to walk a bit to get to camp randall. But parking there you can check out State St., walk to the capitol or do whatever. Madison is a great campus and has plenty to do. There is a website that has the parking ramp info but I can't remember it off the top of my head and am having troubles finding it. But I know its out there.
  6. Wow. Hope its not serious. Speedy recovery to him. My favorite part of the show is when the drumline comes from the back corner and what I believe is/was the 5th bass is playing that "heart beat" rhythm. Too cool. Can't wait til saturday to see this show after a full season of cleaning and changes. By far one of my favorite shows. Saw it at Lisle then Indy now Madison. Best of luck Bluecoats. WWBD
  7. Most of the equipment that I see these groups playing on are old marching percussion equipment. I would say from late 80's early 90's. They are in no means playing any sort of tribal/ancient/hand percussion type instruments. They are simply pounding away on parade snares, tenors and bass drums with some mylar head on them. I think what they original poster was getting at is teaching the concept of playing together and its effectiveness. Something that I am sure prevelant in the fife and drum corps you speak of. Technique and writings styles may differ but I would think one objective would be playing clean. What a great discussion BTW. I have had this discussion with many of my former and current marching commrades. The topic never really gets passed getting a kick out of the double stops on the Bass Drum. :P
  8. All though that may be a true statement. Learning proper technique is learning proper technique. Something that carries over to all forms of percussion not just the Marching/Drum Corps style. Nothing wrong with teaching the youth of america on how to play an instrument correctly.
  9. If my memory serves me correctly the majority of the stadium is bleacher seating but I could be WAY wrong. Most of the games I have attended at Camp Randall I sat in the student section which I know is bleacher seats. They serve as really good spring boards during the 3rd/4th Qtr playing of "Jump Around" B)
  10. Not a problem. It was actually good timing cause I had a lot of preping to finish up on. Plus a lot of our members got to engage in some good conversation with some Brigs members. Thanks for having us. It was well worth it and I enjoyed the trip.
  11. The "best" is the double stops on bass drums. I giggle a little bit whenever I see that. But in all seriousness I can let some of it slide. A lot of the "Drill" Teams in the Racine area are usually comprised of 10 year olds or younger. And their only instruction is what they get from these practices like once a week. And the instruction most of the time is not that knowledgable themselves. If anyone is fimiliar with the music program situation in SE Wisconsin you will understand when I say, I'm just glad to see kids involved in music. But you are right the banging and the infinity stick heights can get a little annoying.
  12. Right. I was tinking the same thing when I read that. I believe I counted only 58 on the DCI web-site. Hmmmm
  13. No need to worry about a dome. Lucas Oil Stadium
  14. Only had a chance to catch Cabs perform before I headed back to the truck for the finale. Got caught up in conversations outside the stadium. Cabs sounded great. Just a wall of brass, energy was high and the drumline was awesome. That is all I can contribute. Sorry :P
  15. Tommy Bartletts Robot World (I think its Tommy Bartletts Exploratory now) All the NEWish indoor parks (Kalahari, The Wilderness, Treasure Island) Mt. Olympus (Rollercoasters and Go-Carts) and as mentioned early... NOAH's ARK!! That place rocks
  16. The year was 1995 The location was Historic Horlick Field in Racine, WI The 2 shows that hooked me were Scouts and Cavies. I haven't been the same since :P
  17. Still wondering where Paris Hilton fits into this....hmmmm (one can only imagine) :P
  18. Good to hear!! Safe travels and best of luck in Madison.
  19. I heard a lot of good comments from people I knew that were at the show about Dutch Boy. Still upset I didn't get to see the program :( . Right in my old back yard and I still missed it. Oh well. Anyway, I hope all the corps faired well with the un-characteristic wisconsin weather on Saturday. I think I am still sweating :P WWBD
