  1. I heard one comment at the Clifton show that made me laugh and cringe at the same time. There was a group of people chattering and laughing throughout the show. One gentleman in frustration asked the people to shut the hell up where they promptly responded, HEY! It's a drum corps show not the opera...JESUS! Some people are too selfish and unaware. You can't get around it. We just can't go around the stands stabbing people who disrupt the performance... or can we? ^0^ (said in jest - don't report me you sensitive dolts) :P
  2. And sometimes it's inaccurate to compare scores in the same show, as I've seen this past Saturday in Clifton. ^0^ Perhaps all shows should be a clap exercise until prelims. It's almost anti-climactic hearing the scores at the end of the night. Like watching a pretty good movie until the very last scene when the ending changes your opinion about it, 1408…(SUCKED). I was enjoying the night and had fun watching the shows, but when the scores were read I couldn't help feeling sour. The placements were right on, but the spreads made no sense to me. Am I whacked out? I managed to agree with the judges on placement, but what is it about the details that I’m missing that would cause me to misjudge the spreads? Perhaps there should be more beer served at drum corps shows; then it wouldn’t matter. :blah:
  3. I saw them at DCI East. I think it's RUDE to talk during a drum corps show. Thankfully there was no talking allowed during the drum solo.
  4. It was a great show tonight. The judges got the placements right, but the scores made absolutely no sense. Starting from the bottom. Fusion corps barely a point behind Sun? Not a chance. Fusion had about 23 horns, 6 guard and 6 battery, (2 snares 1 tenor and 3 bass). The guard didn't really add much visual interest, and the battery was all over the place. I don’t think the two snares had one attack together all night. The corps had one solid moment in the beginning of the show which lasted about 16 counts then they were out of gas for the rest of the show. Drill wise... I couldn't make anything out. It was very muddled. Horn angles were all over the place. They need to work on the drill big time and need to add to the drumline and colorguard to be competitive in Div A. I had Fusion at least 5 points down from Sun tonight, and I thought that was a gift. Sun... full guard and battery with about 15 horns. Musically the drum line was far superior to Fusion and the guard added much visual interest to Sun's show. Additionally, I could make out the forms and understood what was going on. Horns had some very nice musical moments and the soloist nailed it. Everyone around me quieted down to listen to it. The contras didn't blend very well in a couple of spots. The hornline put out about the same volume level as Fusion (probably because their horn angles were more together). If Sun could add 3 baritones and maybe 4 sopranos I think this would be a much better show. Hurricanes... Very surprising. I enjoyed their show. The drumline had some real nice moments as did the hornline. I think this is the best I've seen the corps in years. Its definitely a better marching corps than in years past. The guard added much visual impact and the crowd around me showed lots of appreciation for it. I think they should have scored much closer than the 5 points down the judges had them to Bush. There's no question in my mind about the Hurricanes being in the mix at championships. Bush... I don't know. I disliked more stuff than I liked. The hornline was running all around the field and they didn't look like they were in shape to do it; horn angles suffered as did the sound from the corps. The hornline is much less musical than I’m used to hearing from Bush as were the drums. I'm used to seeing a much better drumline from Bush this time of year. They didn't really play much. There didn't really seem to be much technical difficulty there; makes me long for Bush's drumlines of the 80s. BTW... they only marched 2 tenors tonight. The guard was the one shiny part of the corps. If anything they were the ones to pull off Bush's 80. They added great visual interest to the show. The crowd around me showed much appreciation. The guard seemed much more polished than the corps proper. I had Bush about 2 points lower. Cabs... what happened? I really thought they would be much better tonight. The opening hit rocked, but alas it was just a teaser, because that was the best moment of the whole show. The drumline put the bling in Cab's show tonight. I found myself watching and listening to the drumline more intently, because there wasn't much else for me. The Cabs put out the first real drumline tonight. The corps did march a nice show as well, unfortunately, like Bush, there were some parts where the members are obviously struggling to make a spot. Some of those moves are heart attacks waiting to happen. I had Cabs about 5 points down from Bucs. Bucs… WOW! Right from the start. WOW! Through the middle. WOW! I saw them at DCI east where I thought they took a big dump in front of the DCI crowd, but tonight, that’s what I’m talking about. They had the total package, drums, horns and guard. The hornline had the best impact of the night and blew our faces off. There is one part where the contras and baritones play a sweet ballad, you could hear a pin drop in the stadium. It blended very well. Bucs were definitely the most musical corps of the night. Their drill was written just right for them as well. They had some older players, but they weren’t sprinting to get to a spot. I don’t think I could do justice to the drumline in explaining their performance, you have to hear it for yourself to believe it. For me, the guard’s best moment is at the end of the show during the corps last push. They were physical and on top of the beat. So as I said, the judges got the placements correct, but there’s too much funny stuff with the scores for me. Just my two cents.
  5. Wow... were you guys going camping each time? Talk about a shoe-string budget. BUT, if you love to do it, I guess we all find a way to make it happen. I wished you guys would go on.
  6. I'll buy that. There's a potential to expand the audience. You could always say... you like that? well check this out. Viola! New venue. Ha Ha.
  7. I seem to remember Holly thanking the Raiders on these boards for the loan of those horns for their open house. Therefore one can only conclude that the Raiders were aware of who had the horns at some point. However, I also remember Fusion looking for horns elsewhere a couple of weeks after that. I just figured that was to finish supplying the line, because the low brass were playing on sousaphones. Id imagine corps business practices will be conducted differently in the future. Will it be for the better or just to prevent some form of legal action? I don't know if any of it has any benefit to drum corps in general. Will it affect what I see and hear next week in Wildwood? I think not. BRING on the PIZZA and BEER. Wildwood here I come.
  8. Wow... after reading Lee's blog and the various PMs and emails I've received I can't believe this stuff still goes on. Can it possibly get any uglier? I'm not sure what to think of the DCA managing body either. If they were aware of what happened as it was happening and still allowed fusion to compete what does that say about current management ideology? Is DCA every man for himself, the ends justify the means? It would appear so. I've seen this scenario many times before and I can't believe it still happens. Why does history keep repeating itself? I'll try to forget all this as I watch my first show this season in Wildwood next week. See Y'all on the fity. cent

  10. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...t&p=1861467 Already swept under the rug. Guess it never happened. Good luck Sky.
  11. Drum corps rags don't have investigative reporting like you'd see in mass media. Unless we let some of this ugliness out on here how is one to know who proposed a 35 rule or the complete basis for establishing such a rule. How would we find out why we couldn't have a championship in the midwest or south. Where would we get the details behind some shady drum corps dealings? How could one corps be created and one corps decimated in a matter of a few months? The drum corps world is very small, in fact insignificant, to the regular world. We're so niche that not even some of our musical brethren recognize drum corps as entertainment. Therefore we can only rely on ourselves for this type of information. We all have a piece of the pie. But unless we talk about it we can’t put those pieces together to figure things out. I’ll admit sometimes this gets real ugly; kinda like a car wreck sometimes. You know its coming. You don’t want to look, but you can’t resist. Who didn’t run down the hall when you heard someone yelling FIGHT? Who doesn’t follow a firetruck for a few blocks to see a fire? I think we do ourselves a disservice to sweep this kind of stuff under the rug. Ignore it and it didn’t happen. Keep ignoring it, and it will keep happening. Let’s allow all opinions to be heard. Bring the information you have to the table. I don’t begrudge anyone providing any information. Kay mentioned earlier we’re all making ASSumptions, but I didn’t see any information to support or refute any claims of impropriety. I want to hear it. I need to hear it. Would it make me a fan of Fusion? Would it make me realize the mistakes were Sky’s doing? I don’t know until I hear all the information. It will bug me all summer. I’ll harass people at shows trying to find more and more information. DCP is a more efficient way of getting that information. Of course my wife thinks I’m an old woman who likes gossip. It’s not that…I’m just trying to come to terms with the death of an old friend.
  12. To the guys and gals of New York, please try to keep us updated. I want to know the corps is still alive and doing something to get back on the field. Totally folding is like loosing a close family member. There aren't many family members left so each time we loose one a piece of us dies. To the guys and gals of the Sunrisers. GO GET EM! Looking forward to seeing you perform this summer.
  13. Doing the lawn today thinking about the Skyliner situation. I've seen it before but not to this extent. Call it espionage or outright sabotage; whatever it is, it's not drum corps; its major business gone bad. What's next? Do we force our management teams, staff and perhaps members to sign non-disclosure agreements to keep the business secret? Do we force them to sign non-compete agreements locking them out of creating or participating in management of a competing unit for a number of years after leaving? The risk of a law suit causes those in business to think twice. This part of the business is real ugly. Always has been. I can understand why some people just give it up. My wife asked why I was moping around today; it's just drum corps, not real life. but isn't it? Sorry for venting my frustration here but this is the only place where I can discuss this. When Heat Wave pulled out I was bummed. When Sky pulled out I was heart broken. If Sun doesn’t make it I will totally be disgusted. Let’s tame the politics and make good, entertaining, drum corps!
  14. Lee? I haven't seen him mention Sky in anything in at least 2-3 months; not even in his blog. So I don't expect him to chime in now. It’s rarely a good thing when a corps goes inactive. The struggle to put the pieces back together is more painful than starting a new unit. I hated seeing Matadors go down that road. I felt for the Hurricanes when it looked like they were having trouble about 15 years ago. Then not long after Reading went down. I'm hoping Sky is able to pull it together like Connecticut and Reading and not follow the unfortunate road befallen the Matadors. I will miss you folks and wish you luck putting it back together. :(
  15. This is just unbelievable; a CHARTER MEMBER of DCA going inactive. I'm at a loss.
  16. Two Shows? That is a rather dissappointing schedule. I hope Im able to catch them this year. Good luck New York. Don't let the man get you guys and gals down. I'll always love ya.
  17. Wow! What a coup. Nick was well liked as director of Sunrisers. I wouldn't be surprised if some of Sun's members follow him and Heather to Fusion.
  18. Who said "marched in the snow" "up hill" "BOTH WAYS"
  19. I must say I did expect it. Especially considering he played a major role in this years show and staff selection. I'm sure the New York Skyliners will make him extremely proud in heaven. Good Luck NY. I can't wait to see what you guys and gals do this year.
  20. Uh.... alright, I give. What exactly was in the "SOUP"? And did it improve your performance any? Or was it just one of those mystical Skyliner things that were done to fuel the Skyliner magical myth? Inquiring minds want to know. I’ve always wondered what it was. The first time I saw the alleged soup was at the Bridgeport show in 1981. Everyone took a sip from a ladle dipped in a five gallon paint bucket as they were marching to the field. I just assumed it was water.
  21. Strippers with teeth? I think that's extra. I plan on making my DCA championship reservation this week. Assuming the rest of my compadres are ready to commit to the same hotel. Have fun this weekend Sky. I know you guys and gals will pull through.
  22. Very nice graphic. I wouldn't mind having a poster of that to hang with some of my memorabilia.
