  1. It WILL be a rivalry if only because of geography. Crown and Cadets always seem to spend large segments of their tour together. Despite being a pretty big fan of the Cadets, I for one look forward to going to a show out here in the East where the you don't know beforehand that the Cadets will win!!
  2. <disclaimer>I have not seen Crown live yet this year</disclaimer>BUT there is no way in the world I'd call their musical book easy or simple. I would agree its sounds like its getting pretty clean In fact the one thing I've enjoyed most about Crown lately has been their members' understanding of ensemble sound. I think it's their core strength. Sit in their horn arc and maybe you'll change your mind. They're simply a very good brass ensemble.
  3. Notebook or desktop? A lot of notebooks have issues with streaming video and graphics acceleration. Try turning off the graphics acceleration on your video card. Right Click on empty area of desktop (or Start|Setttings|Control Panel|Display) Properties | Settings | Advanced |Troubleshoot |Hardware Acceleration Slide the controller to the far left (None). Restart if necessary.
  4. Google Maps has a really cool weather overlay from the weather channel. Just to to My Maps on the left side and select Weather Channel. You can set the overlay to radar+cloud and point of interest to Stadiums. Its like it was made for DCP addicts !!
  5. If you are standing on the front sideline looking at the stands... sections A B C D E F G H|I J K L M N O | 50 yd line rows bottom (1) to top (E-L=34,others=37) seats left (1) to right (28) sec I-row34-seat 1 would be top of the stands on the 50.
  6. Agree. That's not the final ending. They will be running again by finals.
  7. I understand how you feel. I mean how hard is it to take videos with a digital device and upload them? Even techno-idiots manage to do that on (the site that shall remain nameless) by the tens of thousands everyday. So what's the problem? Volunteers? someone has to shoot, edit, and upload the video Technology? if your living on gym floor/class room/ RV/ bus you don't have hi-speed net access. You also need a pretty decent PC to edit video. Time? maybe the corps have better uses for the available manpower then just being the corps videographer . Qualtiy? is corp mgmt worried about putting a professional looking product online? OTOH there's certainly a huge opportunity to market your product which is being missed by both the corps and DCI. If the fan network was coming close to its potential I suspect A LOT more people would be subscribing. I really expected to see A LOT more practice footage. It's easy to shoot, self-explanatory, requires little editing, and is the kind of stuff people watch when they have a chance to be there in person (lol well at least *I* do -- dork) . The behind the scenes stuff with members is fun to watch but it requires a bit more thought and preparation to shoot. 5 minutes of horn arc, guard block, pit sectionals or even basics block would be fun to watch. Footage at show sites would make excellent material too. Perhaps there should be a tab for more (for lack of a better word) amateurish quality video a la U-2-buh. If there's a spot for less-than-perfect ad hoc footage and it's what you expect when you go to that tab, there's will be no "Image Hit" for DCI or corps for posting footage from digital camera or even a phone. ---- mike
  8. Wrong -- original topic was "Is WGI flagging videos to generate REPLAY subscriptions".
  9. Oh so I'm guilty of the infamous STEALTH hostility.....I see. I've asked you twice to quote the personal attack. You failed to do so. I've asked you to quote the hostility. Failure again. How about a quote on the baiting? IMHO your just whining about being asked stay on point and didn't like it when you were called out on it. You're accusing me of: personal attacks, hostility, and baiting. I'd suggest that your the one who's righteous indignation and false victimization is crossing the line and is close to violating the DCP standards of behavior. If you don't talk about the topic in a thread just avoid it. Don't come in, post a long mostly-off-topic sermon, and then complain when the original poster points out that your off-topic !! Irregardless of your post count on DCP, you're pretty clearly accusing me of a lot but can't substantiate any of it with any meaningful evidence other than some (miscomprehended) vague accusation of baiting (which by ANY definition you can find on the net you will not be able to find in this thread). As I said I don't know what your beef with me is but I consider your unsubstantiated accusations harrassment and will be reporting it as such.
  10. I've been on DCP a LONG time and RAMD way before it. I think I understand netiquette and I don't think I was crossing the line. You were defending WGI's actions and I was assigning motive to them. The nice speech and non-responsive comments were accurate; almost all of your post had nothing to do with the post you replied to. Sorry if it's bad form pointing out bloviating but there it is. There's no hostile intent or thinly veiled attacks and I kind of resent being characterized that way. I'll say AGAIN -- show me the personal attacks or hostile words and I'll be glad to mea culpa. Guess some people just don't like others to disagree with them HEY MODERATOR PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD !!
  11. Sorry didnt' realize there was anything more than an open-ended discussion going on. Where did I "attack" anyone? It's true I have an opinion about why WGI took these actions but I don't see anything personal in any of my replies.
  12. Please don't mis-characterize my post. I am not "complaining" about other 2008 videos being up. Please quote the message where I do so. My reference to 2008 was only to point out that REPLAY contain only '08 content and that only '08 content was violation-flagged. DVD content posted online poses a much more serious risk to WGI than video from regionals yet it still persists. Both of these items suppor my contention that dollars not legal-risk are the driving force behind the recent takedowns. I don't think WGI is outside their rights legally to request the regionals be removed. As I and another poster indicated, it was their methodology which is objectionable. I also think they're doing these takedowns strictly because of REPLAY. My complaint here is that their effectively giving lip-service to their own policy about videos taken by units at regionals. They say "its ok to post your video online on your own website" with the full knowledge that (due to the size, bandwidth and technology barriers) most websites can't do that unless they host the video on a youtube-like site. Instead the message is "buy a replay subscription if you want to see your own video". As for contacting the poster through youtube, WGI has contacted and requested video removal through youtube messaging in the past. You can't post anonymously on youtube -- you need a least a working email address. If the request is ignored then the violation-takedown would appropriate.
  13. Actually you just need to send an email making the claim. The onus is on the counter-claimer to repudiate the claim. Interestingly enough it seems they've stopped (or paused) their violation-flagging activity. A simple search for other 2008 videos still reveals many (most?) from '08 still are up. I wonder why?
  14. here's the email... No ambiguity about who did what...
  15. If it was based on a complaint by an original copyright holder i seriously doubt the complaint would have magically been ONLY 2008 regional soundtracks. And the takedown notice sent by youtube would have been from the copyright holder not WGI.
  16. WOW. What a strong motivation to try to strong-arm potential subscribers to REPLAY. And it's not FACT yet. You have no idea how many Finals-week-only subscribers they'll pick up. FACT: WGI didnt ask the video posters (in our case THEIR CUSTOMER) to remove the video first. FACT: WGI continues to permit non-REPLAY regional videos to remain. Just where's all this RUMOUR you're talking about?
  17. Thanks for sharing that ! Amazing performance and inspiring story.
  18. Not a full time job and not very hard to locate non-2008 stuff. Not catching a thing is more like it. I wasn't making it up -- everything on our account is colorguard and the WGI stuff is clearly labeled. If someone worked hard enough to find our 2008 regional appearance, right there along side it in the "other videos from this user" area they would have seen regionals from other years. Pretty clearly that's NOT the case. If WGI didnt have a choice and they were actually worried about consequenes, they'd spend a few days surfing youtube and get almost all of them (because most guard videos have the WGI tag in them). For us, it's all about HOW and WHAT. A simple request to remove the video would have been just as easy to make and much better way to treat their client/customer. And why just 2008 regional videos? It's seems to pretty clearly be a decision made to drive more income to REPLAY. If not why are so many OTHER WGI videos still ok on youtube? Because they can't find them? Ridiculous in the extreme. This was a very selective act clearly designed to drive members in current WGI units to spend money to buy a REPLAY pass to see their own show. This is clearly a target audience as WGI offers unit directors free REPLAY passes in exchange for member email lists. to WGI for thinking that forcing people to REPLAY is good marketing. The net effect for us was just to find other streaming sites on which to host videos. (I didn't realize there were so many!).
  19. Nice speech but totally non-responsive to my post. Here it is again.... . Point ignored entirely. If this were truly a liablilty issue, WGI would be violation flagging all those rips from DVD's sold by WGI (which violate the agreement on MECHANICALS which they made and for which they'd acutally would be in big trouble) as opposed to the live performance clearance (which are another matter entirely). note: WGI already permits the recording of this video. It also permits units to display said video on their website (precisely what we did when we embedded the video on our site). Since WGI has gotten clearance on the units behalf (with funds garnered primarily through member units and their supporters -- let's not kid ourselves about where the cash to pay for all those copyright clearances comes from in the first place) and permit the videos on the unit websites, where's the liablility? silence on this point too....
  20. If WGI is trying to protect itself, why only act on the 2008 videos? Nevermind the past years of regional recordings; there are video's straight from past year DVD's which actually do constitute a copyright violation still available onlline . I'm a little familiar with the copyright issues as they pertain to marching arts. Posting a streaming video (aka NOT for download or redistribution) which we recorded on our own equipment of our own performance does not present a legal risk to WGI. And flagging it as a copyright violation without a request to remove it is not only BAD PR it's also BAD policy; now a clean youtube ID clearly associated with a unit has a copyright violation listed against it . REPLAY (and it's associated income stream) is the only apparent reason to go after 2008 recordings.
  21. Today i got a notice from youtube that our video from the Pittsburgh regional was flagged as a copyright violation. In the past regionals were ok to post - just not finals from Dayton. And in fact our performances at other regionals are still live. In fact other performances from the same regional are live as well. There was no request on WGI's part to remove the video first -- they just flagged it as a copyright violation. Based on past experience we had no expectation or understanding that WGI had a problem with regionals being posted. A simple request would have been honored and would have avoided putting the violation flag on our account. These videos are posted as an educational tool for our members and embedded on our site. Due to bandwidth and storage space consideration its just not practical for a shoestring-budget website to host streaming video on your own site. OTOH its important for performers to see themselves perform as a tool for improvement and education. If WGI would like to host the video's for us we'd be glad to avoid using Youtube. But since WGI is trying to create an income stream from Replay, I guess our amateur off-center video was a threat to their pocketbook. So now performers need to pay WGI (in the form of a replay subscription) for the privelege of seeing their mistakes and correcting them. I wonder if the NFL makes players pay to see their game tape?
  22. how's the quality? is it better/worse/same as the free stuff they posted last year?
