  1. Ah yes, the great all knowing GMichael. Why are you so bothered with a little mystery? I don't think it makes them better. I think it is great that for a change a corps repetoir isn't out there for anyone to create preconceived notions about how a show is going to look, sound, or be like.
  2. Momentum says they can do it. Very talented kids, experienced - long standing management, fabulous instructional staff, dedicated volunteers, and strong- stable infrastructure says they can do it. Soprano3, I have no problem being called a Crown "fanboy" I should make a T-Shirt of that and wear it to a regional so you can find me in a crowd. This way, you will know who I am come shake hands with me.
  3. Quite a humorous thread. There are allot of Crown haters on this site, and many of them speculate Crown will not be good every summer, and they just keep getting better. The element of surprise is a nice change of pace for a change. I think there is nothing wrong with not announcing a show for the summer, and just allowing it to be a fantastic surprise when they hit the field. No point in announcing in May anyway, they will be on the road in six weeks. You can see for yourself then.
  4. First entrance of low brass in Suncoasts Sounds 85' opener. Breathing fire!!!
  5. Tisk, Tisk. Another bitter Crusader fan. LOL :P My hope is that all corps bring it finals week. No flat shows.
  6. Man, this thread just won't go away. Ffernbus3 left a great post out here which in my opinion, represents the vast majority of us alumni out here. Thank you Ron, and I look forward to seeing you perform with the rest of the Kingsmen in 07' at semis.
  7. Full ensemble, defintely. I loved how the intensity in ensemble increased with each section block, and then the exhileration of the final run through. Man, I miss it!! :(
  8. Time to break out the crystal ball and call my psychic
  9. Just wanted to clarify this post. Van Doren and Sullivan have not left Crown. They will still be working with Crown. In fact, Donnies son is assistant drum major for Crown this summer. Click on the link below. http://carolinacrown.org/faculty.htm
  10. Of course I like my home the corps (Crown) best of those four, but all were great shows that summer. Robert W. Smith is not a hack.
  11. In keeping with the spirit of the classic countdown, I have been listening to various shows on season pass. Listening to corps back in my heyday, I found it cool how some corps had three+ consecutive years of absolutely kick booty shows. Here are some of my examples. I am sure I will leave some out, but these are my favorites. I would love to hear yours. Any decade will work! Crossmen -- 90', 91', 92' SCV -- 72', 73', 74, 75' BD -- 83', 84, 85', 86' Cavies -- 01', 02', 03',04' Crown -- 03', 04', 05' Cadets -- 83', 84', 85' Suncoast Sound -- 84', 85', 86' Star -- 90', 91', 92', 93'
  12. Paul, So are you saying that SCV's shows currently lack melody and entertainment value? Strange you say that and I completely disagree with you, but you aren't surpised are you? Even though I marched for another top 12 corps, I still reflect on the past when I see SCV's buses roll up, because I have a respect for the past. It is time you have some respect for the present. You are an alumnus of a corps I deeply respect in this activity. I am an old fashioned guy at heart. I have deep admiration and respect for the corps of yester year. I can't think that your fellow alumns are proud of your behavior though. Your are also blowing off the hard work and determination of every kid that marched in your corps and who march now. DCI is giving something that really they aren't obligated to, a semi finals show. Your argument is weak, and you are making a fool of yourself on this forum. Stop now, before all credibility is gone. You are not doing all of the alumns across America who march DCA any service by showing your lack of maturity and decorum. Good thing is, most all of us on this forum know that you are the millitant minority in DCA, and most DCA members share a love for the junior corps activity as well. Bottom line... Those of us who marched are all a part of something very special. Stop whining. Like any other activity, ours has evolved. I feel great about where the activity is and where it is going. If you don't, then perhaps you should just stick to posting on the DCA forums. I suspect they will tire of your adnaseum attacks on the junior corps too.
  13. Hey, wait a minute. I love the "Old time DCI" , and I have all the repsect in the world for the good ole days, but I frankly have seen and heard some pretty boring shows from the 70's as well. Let's share the love here. (AKA... Toungue & Cheek)
  14. Traveling has nothing to do with it. He can't find a reason to justify the post to begin with. As was stated earlier, who watches network TV? Not the majority. Let's be happy with ESPN2 for now.
  15. I suppose they could, but I would venture a guess that high schools copy drum corps 8 times out of ten. I am sure someone will set me straight, or at least try to.
  16. It wouldn't be a thread without the all knowing Orpheus chiming in. Sorry Orph. Mat is right on this one. Allot of questions can be answered with research instead of posting a useless thread. So much Star trashing goes on here, that she has a right to protest.
  17. Attend any local marching band contest in America on a given weekend during the fall. Drum corps influence is out in force every fall in the high school bands across the contry. Here is where you will see copied shows. Before the flames start to roll, keep in mind I didn't say every marching band.
  18. OK, let's look at it this way. Blue Stars move up to division I in 2006. Troopers go inactive for 2006. My point? It is all a matter of how the corps is operated, monies available for operations, how the corps markets themselves, recruiting, and geographic location. These are just a handful but frankly with our current economic enviroment, any corps could potentially have problems. Blue Stars have positioned themselves at this point to move to the division I arena, while other Div. II & III corps choose to keep their numbers small. Success for Blue Stars this year could be measured in being able to field a corps at division I size this summer with minimal operational issues. Hopefully their instructional staff has extablished realistic expectations for the summer. Improve each day, and let's see where they are when the dust settles. Troopers will regroup and God willing, they will be back next summer.
  19. Somethings are better off being asked in a private message then starting a forum on them. Did it occur to you that maybe you could have googled Star and found their website? Why would you need to start a thread for this question? Not cool man. <**>
  20. Wow Walder. Fifty posts already and have been a member for a couple of days. You are on fire!!
  21. Common!! LIke no one could figure out what the results of this pole would be?? Gimme a break. Anti-amp Borgs strike again.
  22. Discovered me in 1984. I was channel surfing and happened upon the 84' finals recap on PBS. I told myself I had to see it live, as I was a 13 year old kid in beginner band, and I wanted to see the best. Saw shows all across the east coast the very next summer. Then I said I wanted to march, so Crown found me. The rest as they say is history.
