  1. Yes, we have show concepts that we are liking and some music to go along with them that we believe our group could pull off, but we are having some problems figuring out additional music, or just some music in general for a few of our ideas. That being said, I'm not looking to DCP for help with choosing music (not that I'm accusing you of saying that), but I was just curious how people go about coming up with ideas or music for their own groups. On the other side though, we have a long list of music that we would love to put on the field but we're having problems putting a decent show concept together. We still have plenty of time to come up with our show, and I know we will eventually get everything worked out, but like I said, I was just curious about other people's process.
  2. I was just curious where show designers/coordinators get their ideas for shows from? I'm mostly curious about musical selections but also want to know about shows as a whole. I'm on staff for a high school group and we have come up with a few show ideas but have struggled with finding musical selections that we feel would fit the shows. We do have an arranger we are working with who has given us some ideas but I just thought I'd ask on here. (I couldn't think of a better place to ask this question but if the topic needs to be moved, that is fine as well.)
  3. Really?.... Since we are just talking about drill, MY personal belief is that in a show, the form takes priority over your dot. But, when cleaning, using dots and trying your best to hit those dots is the best way to help clean the drill and to build consistency in how the drill moves. Again, just my personal belief.
  4. Unless it is a VERY critical set, I don't think they will remember EXACTLY what it is supposed to look like. And even at that, they still don't know if it has changed since the last time they saw the show.
  5. This is the quote that I came up with for the marching band I work for and it seems to work pretty well: "Dots in rehearsal, forms in performance." If in a show and almost everybody in an entire line or form happens to miss their dot but the form still looks good, but then you have that one person who goes to their dot and looks to be out of the form, then that one person who goes to their dot will look wrong. Remember, the judges don't know what your drill looks like....
  6. I got married on May 5th, 2012 but we didn't leave for our honeymoon until the day after. We decided to go to Las Vegas because it was fairly cheap (we paid for most of the wedding on our own) and it is close by. We got to the hotel, literally dropped off our bags in the room and headed right out to go and get something to eat because we where starving. Not even 5 minutes after we leave the hotel, we are walking down the side walk and out of nowhere, I see 2 people, one of which is pointing to my shirt and the other just says "HEYYYYY!!!!!" I only marched Phantom Regiment in 2006 but I was wearing my 2009 show shirt. As it turns out, they had marched Phantom Regiment back in the 80's (I was tired and still on my post wedding rush so I don't remember the exact years but the girl marched in the guard, and if memory serves me correctly, they where married). We talked for just a bit and then had to go our separate ways but we did give each other a big SUTA!!! I love my Phamily!!!! SUTA
  7. Anybody know if they will be streaming anything live this weekend???? If so, will it be on the entire time or just for specific rehearsals?
  8. The Countdown 2009 Edit: opps, I just relized that I said Classic Countdown... Oh well, one can only wish it was all years....
  9. Meh... I wouldn't worry about that. It probably just means that they've already sold out!
  10. I'm hoping so! I've been checking regiment.org about 4 times a day this week to see if they are saying anything about shipping them and there has been nothing! Oh well...
  11. I wonder if Bob Barker knows that people in drum corps joke about him being dead....
  12. This whole thing is stupid and I think it's very sad that they have to edit a show that connected with so many people, regardless of whether or not that point in the show is important to the plot. Situations like this make me wish that if somebody would just prove how many people love this show to the composer, he would just let it be used. I mean, come on, it's a World Championship event! I saw a run-through in Farmington, UT, the show in Ogden, UT and I have the Fan Network. And yet, it isn't enough. I was way, WAY excited to watch the finals performance and the encore, and while I am still excited to see it, knowing that it won't be the entire performance is sadly turning some people away from seeing some amazing drum corps and supporting the activity. I am planning on buying the On the Road DVD to see this historic finals performance and to support the corps knowing full well that the On the Road DVD does have the edit. On a side note, I'm curious how many emails, be them good or bad, the composer in question has gotten on this issue. It seems like the issue is actually out of his control but it seems like some would just think it's all his fault and start sendin the hate mail.
