  1. Here's another one........... 90's - Capitol Brass Ensemble: The Tour de Trump bicycle race, took a path thru the City of Albany, and CBE was the Official "Band" of the Albany Leg of the race. A major sponsor was Brueeger's. They provided us with caps and t-shirts, which we performed in. The odd part about it was the name that they used for us, in the News coverage of the event: The Bruegger's Bagel Bakery Band!
  2. 90's Capitol Brass Ensemble: We played a Military Ball at the Albany Convention Center, on the Empire State Plaza. There is huge fright elevator, in the middle of the floor. They raised us up from the lower service level.... playing "Seranade in Blue" (with soloist Jeff Young) as we came up through the floor, right in the middle of the party! It was some effect! And the reaction from the crowd.. I'll never forget!
  3. Was looking forward to seeing those guys.
  4. Not counting Grennies out. I agree that it will be close, and could go either way. It will also be interesting to see whether Carolina Gold will be in the hunt.
  5. Fusion Core Grenadiers Sunrisers Carolina Gold White Sabers Excelsior Going out on a limb with Sun, since they haven't been in competition yet. But, I need them there, to keep my Final Four pics alive!
  6. LOL! That's EXACTLY what they did for us in the Troy Flag Day Parade!!! A Roller Derby Team for a guard! It was a HOOT! The crowd really dug it, and our drum line had a Blast interacting with them , the whole way. Do you see, now, why SNAP! had to be a whole separate group, Russ? SNAP! is CB! UNLEASHED!!!!
  7. Does anyone know whether Sunrisers plan to compete in Waterloo?
  8. Of course it is.... ..which leads us to: Strange News.....
  9. Wish you the best. Just so you know... CB! is NOT in the Mini-corps business full-time. We do a lot of other stuff, and spend comparitively few hours on the Mini-corps material. And most of our guys play on muliple groups, on a regular basis.
  10. Seriously... we're trying to give the DCA crowd what they want. There will definately be recognizable, hummable tunes throughout. Some hot solos. And also, some fast and LOUD. YOU might even like it!
  11. I'll have to check that one out. One of our players turned me on to "Strange News", and I thought that it had a very profound message.. one that connected, for me, to ... well, let's just say to some of my "experiences" with people. In any case, the name reflects a certain attitude that the group is meant to convey. It's a hoot! Total fun, all of the time! Try and catch them if you can.
  12. Who knows? Maybe we'll even be Loud and won't Suck!
  13. Ding..Ding..Ding! We have a Winner! I have to tell you.. I really never thought anyone would get it......His story WAS the inspiration for choosing our name... and there IS a clandestine connection for me, to the message that I found in it. Besides that, I just really liked the title and the idea of using it for the name of our new group. Strange News from Another Planet was the Rock Opera developed from Herman Hesse's stories, and also: in the title of the English translation of the story, "Star" became "Planet".
  14. It was orinally listed in the schedule, on From The Pressbox. I was wondering the same thing.
  15. On August 9th and 23rd, the Capital Brass! guys will don their Hawaiian Shirts and masquerade as "Strange News from Another Planet" at the famous Saratoga Race Track. (SNAP!, with Helions of Troy Roller Derby Team, Troy Flag Day Parade) With 11 brass and a drummer, we'll stroll the picnic grounds, beginning at 11:00am. Then at Noon; we'll open up the Official Race Day with the National Anthem; followed by a set at the Gazebo, until 1:00pm. We'll feature some great new material for 2009, including tunes from our Mini-corps show: Black Mamba, Sing, Sang, Sung, Everybody's Everthing, Georgia, on My Mind and much more! This is our 3rd summer appearing at the track, having performed as Capital Brass! in 2007-08. Our sister group, Brass-O-Mania!, will open up the season, for the 15th time, on Opening Day... Wednesday, July 29th; also 11:00am-1:00pm.
  16. I think that it's Spandy's list. We'll have to wait until he checks in, I guess.
  17. This is TOOOO funny.. ... cause it is Sooo true!
