  1. I don't think show design and musical selection/styles should be confused. To me the show design would include, theme and pacing of the show. I think if the staff has the ability they should be able to take just about any musical style/piece and design it into something either enjoyable to perform and/or entertaining for the audience. Funny that most of the people responding to this thread are Renegades or have been at some point in time. This was my first year. I did Renegades because my friends from RCR were doing it. I knew going into it that we were going to play something "evil"... I would not expect anything different. I don't have any other choices for a corps to march in because there is no way I would travel any farther. I think show design would only effect the person who cares about it so much they would rather not march and perform. Although, I don't think the show designed came to the full conclusion intended this season... I had a f'n great time and I will be back next year. So I guess for me choosing to march in the only corps available to me, I would say show design is very far at the bottom of my list of concerns in choosing to march. My friends are there, we have fun, we play well together, the cost is actually more than I can afford but oh well, and the travel and time commitment can be a drag but once I am there, it is about the people I am around and the good time that I am having. So if a corps was known for the most amazing shows and placed well every single year but everybody (members/staff) there was a phallus I would not march there.
  2. As a marching member of the 2008 Renegades... I appreciate the honest review. I cant comment on the brass comments because I am a snare player and I honestly thought our hornline did a hell of a job and came a long way from the beginning of the season. But what I can comment on is the show designed. Everytime I watch a recording of our performances I put myself in audience mode and just watching the show with no previous knowledge of what it is supposed to be... I can't figure out what the show is supposed to be/represent either. I am in no way bad mouthing our staff either... they would never design a show that they would not intend to be competitive. But from the beginning of the season they had an idea and the final product was just not realized do to various reasons. They did the best they could with what they were dealt. From a music and drill stand point the show was fun as hell to perform... marching in the snareline we were playing and running non-stop... it was a blast. All though we did not place as high as we would have liked to... we did enjoy ourselves and we have a pretty strong core of new people to the corps that plan on returning next year. So trust me when I say we want to be competitive and would never spend the time and money if we did not want to compete. I have full confidence that the design staff will come up with something for us next year that will make us more competitive. You are right... we definately have the talent and execution to place alot higher... I think a product tweak will aid in being more competitive... we are supposed to be getting new uniforms next year too, which could add alittle more to the change!
  3. Congratulations Alliance! I did not get to see you guys perform but your corps response to our drumline (Renegades) lot warm up is one of the best memories I have from Rochester. Appreciate the support and cheering in the lot as you guys came back to your equipment truck. We were all talking about it at some point later after our show how cool it was to have the Class A Champions hypeing us in the lot. I am going to check out your guys show as soon as it is available for me to watch. Have heard nothing but great things about your corps. Thanks again for the great memory! 4. After marching in the River City Regiment drumline (tenors) 06 and 07 and never making it out to DCA; I am just glad to have taken the opportunity to march in Renegades snareline this year. DCA will be a blast! Not sure where we will end up... I just would like to make finals so we can perform our show twice for the fans. I am not thinking there will be an issue there but hell... you never know!!! As it has been said a couple times this season... "we could be first... we could be last... but we will probably be somewhere in between" and that I think sums up my prediction having never seen our competitors but on low quality clips on youtube. We just want to put on the best possible show for the fans (and our selves). If our last run through this weekend was any indication of what we will be putting on the field come Saturday we are all in for a real treat. I just have one request... hold on to your babys! It will be really tempting to throw them... Best of luck to all corps! I hope to see SoCal Dream at the top of the Class A pile... you guys are awesome this year and could only imagine how much more awesome you guys are with the closer. 5. For true... For true... and they never even had a chance to finish paying off the RCA dome... still owe millions on that.
  6. That is too funny... I was just about to edit my post and say "unless you spell it out with naration" but you took the words right out of my mouth.
  7. Hhhmmm... funny... the first time I saw it and everytime after that I thought it represented a "chocked outline" of a body. Like somebody had just fallen off of the tight rope and fell to their death. I believe the music is pretty sad sounding there to if I remember correctly... I havn't seen it since california... but... that is funny I never thought of it any differently. Imagery is so subjective.
  8. For entertainment sake... I about #### myself when somebody pointed out this caption ranking today. Of course when you hit the weighted score option we (Renegades) are dead last... just a funny stat... Percussion Total UNWEIGHTED Caption Ranking DCA Open Class (2008) Corps Score Change Last Show 1. 9. I havn't heard a good clip of them yet to really tell but I will be seeing them live next weekend anyway. I know Blue Devils are marching the deeper cut tenors as well but the way they tune they don't sound like pearls... more like 98,99 when they marched the deeper cut Yamahas. More tone than normal but still the very chocked high tension Devs sound.
  10. 2 of the snare drummers in our line (Renegades) were in the Kingsmen Alumni Corps last year... Scott and Earl...
  11. Renegades 2008 I will just say I am the youngest at 27 and the oldest is 52 and we are hawling ### and playing nonstop in our show. Not an easy show at all and I give it up to my elders. They are a bunch of badasses!
