  1. I heard your DCI evaluation is just around the corner, good luck. I am sure you are going to do great and we will shortly hear the name "Velvet Knights" announced on the competition field once again. I look forward to hearing that!!!
  2. This exposure angle has been mentioned a couple times, but lets take this one step further. What if the band director is a die hard traditional drum corps alumni/fan; electronics are passed and he is completely against it. Just as the alumni/parent would probably not push his own kids to go to show, march, etc., neither would this band director thus ending the exposure through high school. I know a bunch of band directors that only tolerate marching band because they have to and give no push towards DC as is. I also know many that could care less about marching band and drum corps one that is even an alumni of a multi-championship winning corps ....truely sad, but reality.
  3. I don't think it should matter if they have a line up or not. It is April 2007 and the calendar is still 2006?!? If the show dates are firm, or even if they arent, the calendar should still be 2007 by now.
  4. What four corps? Are they all from the same regional circut? If so, with all four no longer allowed to compete, does that kill the regional circut by not having at least 3 corps? Congratulations to those of you who so admirally passed a rule to exclude small corps. This was a fantastic idea that will really help the growth of the all age drum corps activity! Go pat yourself on the back.....real hard.
  5. For a while, it was like we were a novelty. As in "Yeah these old guys still try and march." Now they realize we are as serious about entertaining and putting out a quality show as any other corps in the country. The audiences are a bit small as we go on first at every show, but the number of people in the stadium has increased over the last couple years. They also show as much appreciation to what we give them as just about any other corps in the show.
  6. This sounds like you expect to have all of the corps travel expenses paid by someone else. In what world do you think that happens? I can guarantee that corps travelling from the west coast to championships do not get their travel expenses paid by anyone but the corps members themselves.
  7. Tight race for the final! Now lets see what happens on the field.
  8. I'm with you. I was forced to sit through a MIDI concert and there were two guys "playing" these things. The ultimate insult was when the MIDI sound selected for one of the solos was a saxophone.
  9. If the rule passed, would this have been legal? It is a digital midi trumpet. Not trying to start an argument, serious question.
  10. Well the original poster did say: That makes me think he was only looking at Div I touring corps. Also, he said: Which is the same as you said in your last sentence.Cool idea. Even if Pioneer changes to Bb later, at least some "current" generation kids will get to experience playing on a G bugle.
  11. I think you may have been confused a little and blasted the wrong person here, Mark. Dan Zeilinger, who you quoted in your post, is the director of the new VK and said this about the Texas Kingsmen: Perhaps you were thinking about this post by Ron Zeilinger who is an alumni of the original VK but is on staff for Impulse, not VK, and a member of the Kingsmen Alumni Corps:
  12. I knew that this information could have been found by anyone, but I just thought I would try and make it easier to find. I am sure there are more corps that still need spots filled, I was just including the closest corps since travel could be an issue. Thanks to the corps that responded with what you are still looking for. Let's find them all a place to march!
  13. *****This is not posted to be a "What's wrong with Esperanza thread!!***** *****You can find that elsewhere, I am just trying to offer alternatives***** First let me say I am sorry that Esperanza is not fielding this summer. And secondly I am sure you now feel left out in the cold if you were planning on marching, I understand that feeling from past experience. I looked around the internet and found some information that may be helpful so you dont miss out on marching this sumer. I know many of you are in San Diego and travelling may be hard if not impossible, but if you can go just a little north, there are other options to march. All of these corps seem to still be accepting new membership. Here is what I found: Div I: "Pacific Crest" www.pacific-crest.org Website shows they still needs 1 tuba, 2 trumpets and guard members. info@pacific-crest.org Div II - III: "Mystikal" www.mystikal-corps.org Brass auditions this weekend, percussion next weekend info@mystikal-corps.org "Velvet Knights" - VK - VKYAO www.vkyao.org/vk next camp looks like 3/30 info@vkyao.org "Gold" no website mrdlf@aol.com "Impulse" www.impulseyoutharts.org next rehearsal this weekend info@impulseyoutharts.org If you can travel a little further and go to Phoenix, "Jester" www.jestercorps.org Director@jestercorps.org If getting to Orange/LA county is not possible for a full jr corps schedule, since there is one near you, you could always try a DCA corps with a more limited schedule. DCA all age corps: "SoCal Dream" www.socaldream.org next rehearsal in April membership@socaldream.org I hope all of you find a place to march this summer. Good Luck where ever you go.
  14. What I find interesting is not that the corps voted off are corps that are familliar or other corps are afraid of, but that most (looks like after this round it will be 6 out of 8) that have been voted off are from the north east.
  15. Are you going to do this on the weekend days also? Just curious because getting online on rehearsal weekends within the voting time frame could be difficult.
  16. Hmmmm I thought we would see things like this on the announcements forum. Good Luck to Fusion Core this year.
  17. Me three since that is exactly what Roger Spaulding teaches in his book. Mind you I did not use this approach, but I understand it is very effective.
  18. Thats not completely accurate. After you age out from DCI corps, there are always DCA corps available. A bit different style, but the drumlines are changing every year and seem to be getting more "modern" in their style.
  19. I didnt take it as a negative at all and didnt think that is where you were going with this. It was just nice to see that positive comment and not the usual us against them rethoric so I had to say that.
  20. I must say that it is really nice to see a positive "cross-over" post about DCI and DCA! It gets really old hearing the same negative comments about who does what and why that isnt really drum corps; or those guys are just oldtimers that cant do it as good anymore; etc. I may not agree with the direction DCI has gone in the past 10-12 years, and I will even voice that in nonbashing way. Others do not agree with DCA and how they are stuck in the past. Either way, I still enjoy drum corps shows and will continue to go to DCI shows and continue to march a DCA corps. The comment above, "The world needs more drum corps", is great and we could all stand to live by this and support each others organizations for what they are and put aside the negativity. That would truely be best for the activity. I am glad MBI is a great corps, but a DCI corps (I dont like the term "junior" just like I dont like "senior") in that area could be great also.
  21. OMG! Do you all really think it was serious? C'mon people...... If you did, click HERE or HERE for a simple definition of gullible. After that, relax! Back on the original topic, this sounds like a fun hotel to be staying at or maybe visit during the weekend.
  22. Absolutely!!! Leave Mini the way it is. If you want to move, move. If not, dont. Dont overregulate mini or it will stop being the fun friday night element it currently is.
  23. Mini 11-21 Class "B" 22 - 30 Class "A" 31 - 60 Open 61 to 128 No overlap(no grey area)..... 30 - 70 too large of a spread for "A" class
