  1. Wow, complaining about spending $20.00 that goes to support a worthwhile activity. Doesn't make sense to me. It would be great if it was free, obviously it can't be, but $20 is chump change these days. I recently stopped at a Maryland House and my wife asked for a chai latte and I thought I'd get a cup of coffee, too. It was almost $9.00! for two friggin drinks. THAT is obscene, but people pay those prices and don't bat an eye and the prices aren't that high because the workers are getting any great benefit from the high prices. There is a real screwed up perception of value in the world, sometimes. Two cups of hot liquid are not worth nine dollars...anywhere, but surely, hundreds and hundreds of individuals, that have paid much more themselves, for the privilege busting their chops to entertain you for a few hours, is worth a 20 measly bucks. Yes? ...and I think Starbucks coffee sucks so bad, I feel I was doubly ripped off!
  2. You have to remember that it is never the valve oil that freezes. It is the spit or condensation in the valve casings that freezes. There probably is no reliable combination of fluids to prevent freezing in really cold climes other than trying to keep the horn warm somehow, i.e. hot hands type of things. I haven't done a parade in below freezing temps in a long time, probably Pottsville Winter Carnival back in the early nineties. Hamburg, PA King Frost Parade gets pretty chilly sometimes, but rarely freezing. What do you have coming up that may be that cold?
  3. Gary, in case they don't get DCI up there, but somehow get DCP...Troopers made finals, buddy.
  4. I was proud to call this man a friend and although I hadn't seen him in awhile I am saddened by this news. He did a lot and didn't get enough credit. We all have friends in drum corps like Gary. They're not the big name, best player, or most popular, but they proudly do their part. RIP Gary. Gary J. Post, 55, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Thursday morning at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born April 25, 1954, in Pottsville, he was a son of Joseph and the late Ella Post, Minersville. Gary attended Minersville schools and was a 1972 graduate. He worked at the former Pottsville Hospital in materials management. Gary was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven. Gary had become an Eagle Scout on May 25, 1970. He was the assistant Scout leader from the former UCP Schuylkill County Handicapped Boy Scout Troop. Gary marched with the Belvederes Junior Drum & Bugle Corps of Schuylkill Haven from 1968 to 1974. He also served on his church council and assisted the pastor. Gary was a member of Schuylkill Hose Company No. 2 since 1989. He marched with the Buccaneers Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps and was a member of the Belvederes Alumni Corps. Gary was instrumental in organizing "The Sounds Spectacular Band Shows" involving local high school bands in the county. Gary's lifelong passion for his favorite drum corps, the Troopers from Casper, Wyo., was the initial start of bringing drum corps from across the country to Schuylkill Haven and showcasing their talents to the people of Schuylkill County. In addition to his father, Gary is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol; two brothers, Joseph Post Jr., Minersville, and Jerry Post, Swoyersville; his wife's parents, Frank and Mildred Noecker, who had been second parents to Gary throughout his adult life; his beloved "kids," Trooper and ChyAnne, the family dachshunds. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday from Grabowski Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Bell and Pastor Harold Hand will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Interment will follow on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Gary J. Post Memorial Fund, c/o Vist Bank, PO Box 608, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. Please keep Gary's wife and family in your daily thoughts and prayers.
  5. But if you perform an entertaining, albeit easy show - perfectly - how do you judge that? Just asking, for Pete's sake. No one in mind.
  6. I watched the clip...me like. make me wanna talk this way...
  7. I remember The Who doing their Mike Longdo rock opera, don't you?
  8. Hmmm. pinball wizard. Does his last name have something in common with my first name? ( which isn't really 'martybucs' btw.)
  9. and he likes fish. Hmmmm, was this taken on a Friday?...during Lent?
  10. Lots of encouragement and good advice. However, there is one important bit of advice that should be given to any older individual seeking to take the field again. That is; NEVER trust a fart.
  11. For those that have problems seeing the pictures because they appear dark: Try turning up the brightness and contrast on your monitor. Or try saving the photo onto your computer and if you have a photo program, you can adjust brightness and contrast with that program or choose "autofix" which will almost always brighten a dark photo. If you have a program, on your computer, like Photoshop, you can get a lot fancier, i.e. image adjustments and go to levels - in the center box increase the number from 1.0 to about 1.7 or more and you will lighten the entire image without losing any picture information, then use brightness/contrast controls to adjust how the photo looks. Just a few technical tips, to help if you feel inclined.
  12. I think we are planning on doing our Halloween parades at 160 bpm and marching backwards! (Hmmm, maybe that will make the hills easier )
  13. I'm 56 and do Alumni corps. Granted, not the same as a whole day on the practice field, but none-the-less demanding on a hot day, playing up hills and such. I've got plenty of gas left in the tank, even at the end of the longest parades. However, I think you'll find, no matter which corps you choose to march with, open arms welcoming you and all the help and support you might need. Go for it, someday you WILL be too old.
  14. BITD at 40, you could still be marching in junior corps, (before DCI got all pisssy about it.)
  15. I've got it!!!!!!!!!! Play guitar instead and you can still be in DCI and dry mouth is no longer a problem. I'm a genius.
  16. I definitely think he should be in. But is he in the 507 Hornets HOF? Do they have one. They should, great people.
  17. that's ok. He got his answer many pages ago. This is OUR topic now!
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if Bucs have the serial numbers, but it's after the fact now. The original thief is lucky. When I lived on State Street in Media, PA, I used to park on the busy street, (just because I loved having my car side-swiped by people trying to squeeze between the trolley and parked cars). I was in Buccaneers and we had gotten a set of 2v Ultratones in the cases that had the herring bone cloth sides. (hated the OLDS 2v's BTW). Well, I got home late from a show and left the case in the back seat of my 1976 Ford Granada Eurosport Coupe. Sunday morning I come out and the driver's side window is smashed and they took my stereo and the 2v bugle out of the back seat. I call the Bucs and get the serial number for insurance purposes. I call the insurance company and explain that my car was broken into and they took the stereo. The woman asked, "Is anything else missing, because the stereo isn't covered?" I said, "Yes, they took my horn." "Your horn?", she asked slowly. "Yes, my horn, out of the back seat." "You're horn was in the back seat?" she asked, again rather slowly. "Yes, it was in the back seat and I think that's all they got." "Can I ask you a question please?' 'If the horn was in the back seat, how do you use it?" I see where this is going now and answer, "Well, you blow into it like a trumpet." She says, "You have to blow into your car horn, that you keep in the back seat?" I come clean with, "No, it was a drum and bugle corps, bugle that was in it's case in the back seat. It's like a trumpet, but with only two valves, and the drum corps is...." She interrupts me with, "Ohhhhhhhhh, I understand now...I will need a description and the serial number if you have it and the approximate value..."
  19. funny story, except when you think of what a contra costs, even BITD. Can't say that either you or your sister would be liable, other than if you definitely knew, for certain, that it was stolen, which you didn't. Where's Lee Rudnick? I'm sure the statute of limitations has probably run out on the alleged crime anyhow,
  20. HEY!....give it back! That's actually grand theft, not a misdemeanor and receiving stolen property. Might be a good idea to delete these entries.
