  1. no... no one can dispute the contributions of Fleetwood and Drum Corps News... both Ray Samora and Dick Blake were great to work with... As a snot nosed (rather precocious) teenager in drum corps, I actually managed to maintain a local drum corps weekly radio show in Central New York during much of the 60's. Fleetwood provided almost every album they made to me at no cost. Fond memories. Not too long before I got married in 1969, the owner of the radio station turned me into a morning drive time disc jockey... You never know what you might get because of drum corps.
  2. no - don't get ME started... the issues I know you have (had) were cleaned up many years ago...
  3. Just for the record... I'm quite sure he never made any real money on pictures... especially if one considers the travel and equipment expenses... If you haven't guessed who it is by now... go to POST #1 - a picture of me taken by this man that was on the front cover of Drum Corps News following the American Legion Nationals in Fenway Park Boston 1967
  4. Really? doesn't look tall enough... lol I didn't even know he marched... must be not having those navy bell bottomed jeans... threw us off...
  5. While I agree with what Ed and Jeff had added to this thread... I find it unfortunate that Ed resurrected this historical thread from 2011 rather than starting a new one... Only because of the rather misleading and obnoxious question asked in the title of the thread... It makes it seem anew that someone is predicting imminent doom to other corps because of the existence of Cadets 2 when the point of those who have chosen to resurrect the thread is just the opposite... life has gone on just fine and they have been an asset to DCA as any top 5 corps would be.
  6. you enjoy this far too much!!! but you have to admit... there's a strong resemblance to him...
  7. before we criticize the all important bass drummers, I'm reminded that Vince Bruni started out as a bass drummer...
  8. seriously???? Bass drum???? that is hysterical and If I ever knew that, I've long since forgotten... Here's to "Hang 'em high" and "Magnificent 7" (and a healthy amount of bell bottomed pants and rump rump's along the way)
  9. Yes, I did know him well at least I'm pretty darn sure I know who it is... but what the heck is he doing carrying a bass drum? If I'm right, that's a HUGE hint...
  10. ok... let's play nice... I know everyone on this thread and I'm certain that anyone who could help insure the return of ANY corps would do so... We all look forward to seeing the Renegades in all their glory and audacity (that's a compliment) on the field... very soon!!!! As for the times? For sure they have changed from when people like me and Jeff's dad and others partied into oblivion... it has little to do with drum corps and EVERYTHING to do with changing times and mores... like it or not, we as an activity must comply with those new standards... Change is a fact of life and as inevitable as death and taxes... I was witness to Reilly and Hawthorne totally destroying the country club after the Lewisburg show in the late 50's - Milton Country Club if memory serves me right... it wasn't pretty... but life went on... and the people involved got politely escorted out of town... Now... were the same RIOT to happen with the damage involved... CNN would be sending a news crew to cover it, helicopters would be displaying search lights above the country club and swat teams would approach in full riot gear... the internet news feeds and all the wire services would carry the story "drunken band members destroy posh country club"... and you ALL know I'm not exaggerating... welcome to the new century ... we all must live in this century and mold to what society demands... and that's exactly what Renegades are now doing... PLEASE come back soon... 7
  11. Now as for our newest candidate for star status... I would say the short person is sitting on the curb watching the parade... first is the corps the Hurricanes?
  12. Sinners? You mean like the bathtub scene at Carlton University in Ottawa Ontario Canada? I along with many of my Upstate NY friends partook of some of the bathtub refreshments and viewed the "accessory" in the tub... "Sun" knew how to light up any party...
  13. I believe... not yet... They posted a bit ago that ship date is 12/1 - but someone from DCA will confirm that I'm sure...
  14. problem is timing... DCE is at the end of September when all USA college students are back in school... a very difficult trip to pull off...
  15. That's hysterical bringing up Valencia... Who'd a thunk it??? All those legionaires cheering for a Spanish corps in bell bottomed pants praising the flag of the United States while playing Valencia????? fond memories...
  16. Saturday, November 16th, saw Heartliner from Ludwigshafen Germany celebrate their successful 2013 campaign at their annual banquet. Heartliner made their 2013 tour most memorable by becoming the first ever German corps to compete in the United States participating in DCA contests in Bridgeport, CT and Pennsauken, NJ as well as the DCA World Championships in Annapolis, MD. where they placed very well in Class A competition and were most impressive. They are well remembered by all who saw them. Through the miracle of communications, they were forced to sit through a few words of thanks and congratulations from this old drum corps war horse who participated via Skype. It was my pleasure. We can only hope that more of the "world's" corps are able to travel in the future and bring home the memories of a lifetime to their part of the world. Special congrats to the Heartliner management team for having the vision and drive to make their 2013 tour happen...
  17. yes... the curve of the stadium screwed everyone up... as did the mud which is not apparent in this video but believe me the field was a quagmire... I still can't believe the "tear" in the beginning of Michael... that alone put us behind Cru (Justifiably) Junior could tell you better but I believe it was Arnold Zampi on that solo... further... for you purists looking for me... I'm the inside horn on the #2 side... set up man... when we come forward I turn toward the starting line and make sure the two sides are aligned... just before the pose at the end of "Michael" you can see Mo Knox on about the 35 yard line #2 side getting ready to shoot the picture... an angle that explains why the tenor drums are over my shoulder. I'm also a part of the Indian Dance... when the dance completes I am the front horn player... (6 o'clock position) pretty hard to miss at 300 plus #'s... fun memories... thanks for indulging me
  18. now that we know who the pretty lady is... and indeed that is one amazing drum corps family... here's a treat for the old at heart... since the picture of me was post #1 over 33000 post ago... that picture was taken at the end of "Michael Rowed His Boat Ashore" Legion Nationals Fenway Park 67 here is that FULL show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9HHlCbMF7E
  19. it's easier than that... he had them wire transfer the money to an account belonging to a female with the same last name as him... simply transfer it back... or he has been authorized by the Heartliner corps director to mail a check to me and I will transfer it to them... whichever... I fear that neither will ever happen...
  20. I wasn't looking to fight this battle on DCP... Just to get some sound advice and perhaps some contacts in that state... It appears that I made a wise decision. I have received both... However, this is not an appropriate forum for some matters which is one reason why I have not named the perp here. That being said... It's most reassuring to read all of your comments/suggestions and the almost blind faith I have had over these 60 plus years in the activity for my brothers and sisters in the activity is quickly being restored after having one guy do a pretty good job of weakening that foundation of that faith I had in my fellow drum corps people. From the first parade I marched in in the early 50's, my first senior field contest in 1959, 15 seasons with Rochester Crusaders, 7 years with the Syracuse Brigadiers, 5 with the Fulton Gauchos and all the years judging and/or working with circuit management, it never ceases to amaze me that whenever you meet another corps person who has "walked the walk" - even if meeting them for the first time, you know that you have met a brother or sister who you can immediately relate to and who will "have your back" when necessary. Sometimes rivals on the competition field but ALWAYS drum corps family. Thank you all...
  21. show me the pic... maybe I'll know and unlike our friend in Florida... I can keep quiet...
  22. I really don't mean to make light of the matter... but I have found his threats pretty funny... further, where on here have I divulged his identity? Arkansas is a big state... me thinks someone may have just a small, tiny bit of guilty conscience. anyway... up until DCA week... constant contact was maintained and delivery was promised... delivery never arrived... that really is what is important... I apologize to my good friend John Donovan for using DCP this way, but look at it as a compliment - it's the best, easiest and quickest way we have right now to discuss drum corps matters and this IS absolutely a drum corps matter.
  23. If anyone from the State Department (?) needs to confirm my contact information... here you go...
