  1. I was corps director of Cru that year... those two scores are wrong... if they were real - I would remember them well... However, it was a great season and a wonderful corps...
  2. All you CT and Big City peeps... let's support all the corps and be at JFK Bridgeport for Hurricanes show tonight... Especially welcome all our German friends in Heartliner - the first ever German corps to come to the USA... Wish I could be with them... See you all Thursday in Annapolis and of course, if you're in Eastern PA - Reading has a great show tonight also - and Pennsauken NJ tomorrow...
  3. This show was Bucs declaration that they were now a force for all the other seniors to deal with... leading up to becoming the first DCA Champion in 1965 -
  4. Donnie does Copeland better than any arranger in the business...
  5. Mini Corps is one of the best things to happen in the last 15 years... along with class A Let's prove that 2013 is just a hiccup and bring everything back to the caliber it was in Rochester for the 50th anniversary... back where it thrived in the Riverside Convention Center... I think it's all about money...
  6. couple things... the 68 Syracuse recording was done by John Laskowski (who was show chairman) and Maurice Stith... I'm also wondering that since there's no recordings of 68 DCA, if there might be video of that show in the large group of film that was provided to DCA by Tom Nasman of the Crusaders... may very well be - just not sure... I know Mike Symonds would love to do something with that stuff some day... but it's job 11 on a list of 10 things to do and is an absolute NIGHTMARE legal wise... which I'm also sure is the major reason we haven't seen them... Frank Dorritte and I were just comparing notes on that show and as great as 72 dca was, Brigadiers and Sunrisers horn lines in 68 were amazing... Sun and Brigs had a mutual admiration society that year brass wise...
  7. This is fantastic news... I just got off the phone with the director of Heartliner from Ludwigshafen, Germany and they are excited that the show is on and very much looking forward to competing... They will also be in Bridgeport CT on Saturday night.
  8. correction... the practice field is: at the District Warehouse, not the school. The address is 7 N. Bacton Hill Rd., Malvern.
  9. The rehearsal field is at Great Valley HS Great Valley School District 47 Church Rd. Malvern, PA 19355 I do not know exact times...
  10. yes, extremely frustrating... I just got off the phone with Tom Roehr, director of Heartliner... They are currently in King of Prussia PA and practicing Thurs/Fri at Malvern PA HS I hope as many as possible can root them on in Bridgeport on Saturday night... Saturday afternoon they will be rehearsing near the stadium on the JFK grounds...
  11. show offs lol I know Keith was stationed in Germany... lol
  12. Safe travels to our German friends in Heartliner... They are now traveling from Frankfurt to Philadelphia to begin their USA tour and contests in Bridgeport, Pennsauken and of course, the DCA Championship in Annapolis...
  13. YES Congrats to all the Atlanta CV people for a great season...
  14. speaking of old recordings... Here is a lead that none of you know about... another Rochester guy recorded a number of shows in the 60's and early 70's... and I think he might have masters still... and he's reappeared as a drum corps photographer - he is amazing by the way... Dave Valvo... saw him shooting at Bill's stadium DCI show on 8/5... his web site is easy to find... you guys might ask him although his career has been in photography and he's quite good at it, I believe he has access to the audio stuff from back then.
  15. you are absolutely correct about the Fleetwood/Drum Corps News fire back when destroying masters... As for Maurice Stith, they did great work (he did, with his partner John "Chooch" Laskowski)... Maurice was working out of Ithaca NY... I was always told that John Laskowski's daughter in Florida had the masters but certainly Maurice would know...
  16. the 8mm sound version of Phoenix that DCA has and I hope will market some day... has EXCELLENT audio... video is ok but hampered by the temp lighting at Aquinas/Holleder field... one forgets how bad that lighting was... fortunately, you can't hear the generator... anyway... the sound is quite wonderful...
  17. this sounds like a slam to those who have not judged championships... and I'm taking your word for it as I could care less... So I will say as one who directed a corps that Giff Howarth taught and performed with... He is probably the most musically capable percussion judge you will find anywhere - not to mention that he is one of the finest professional 4 mallet performers in the world - heaven forbid those massive pits be judged by someone who has walked the walk and speaks their language... DCI is fortunate to have him working...
  18. seated on the 50 in row 35... coming from someone who hates amplification... I can say it (the counting) was NO PROBLEM in the stands - it was NOT overpowering and added to the show...
  19. isn't it HIGHEST DCA sanctioned score? not last? but hey, I'm retired...
  20. the only thing new this year is competing "within class" at all shows... which is a "small" but critical change...

  23. comparing scores from class to class and show to show is an inexact science... However, they are judged on the same sheets with the same criteria... but there are other dynamic factors that enter into the picture... as they now RANK within the class... The judges duties are to Rank (get them in the right order within their class) first, Rate (get the spreads as right as possible within class) and then evaluate (justify your rank and rating and give assistance to improve the corps/program in the future) Since the first priority RANK is now within class, comparison of scores between classes is inexact... Show dynamics also enter into the picture... and a comparison of recaps from last week to this week would seem to indicate that one or more judges were a tad high last week and let it go as the rank and rate WITHIN the Class was ok... this apparently got corrected last night.. This should take NOTHING away from White Sabers as they are having a wonderful season and obviously are a Class A contender.
  24. now that Fran lives south of the Mason Dixon line... are you sure he's still a Yankee? Seems more like a Confederate spy to me...
