  1. IDK how you define majority, but since 2018 we have had accusations against: Cadets Pioneer (now inactive) Cavaliers Phantom Crown SoA Crossmen Troopers Blue Devils Mandarins Shadow (inactive in 2022) Battalion Raiders Oregon Crusaders (inactive) Did I forget any? By my math that is 11 of the 42 active Corps listed on DCI.org, or 26%. And these are only the Corps with published allegations. And over 50% (7 of 12) are DCI finalist Corps, including a World Champion.
  2. Opinion requested - do people think DCI Office & individual Corps are reading these threads on DCP & Reddit? Not ‘will they do anything’ - just are they aware of what is happening here (& on Reddit)?
  3. Abuse happened in 2021 as well. The former SoA that started the current discussions marched in 2021.
  4. I fully support what Newseditor44 posted above. A large part of the problem is that Drum Corps is a small community, and the large majority of Corps staff/instructors marched or taught with all the other Corps staff/instructors. It could almost be considered Incestuous. So, they all have each other's backs, and that is part of the problem.
  5. Well, if they can't carve out a livelihood in pageantry, around here (coastal Virginia) there are plenty of job opportunities for fast-food workers. Unfortunately, that could provide them with a new group of potential victims.
  6. Time for an exhumation. The cancer of member abuse will never go away unless a complete and permanent removal of the offenders, dead or alive, whether they are a DCI HOF-member or assistant potato peeler on the food truck are permanently banned from the activity.
  7. Yes, but 'former' from 1982 is different than 'former' from 2021.
  8. Terri - I think I have discovered the ideal job for you. And I am more than semi-serious.
  9. I would suggest keeping it on back burner for now, but get some words ready in case the current piling-on isn't enough to squash this bug.
  10. I would prefer something more like this. But same end result.
  11. I was asking about the resignation of the medical staff, mentioned by the Contra player (who is supporting you).
  12. Thinking along the same lines Also, there is a recent Reddit post concerning abuse in Battalion as well.
  13. There is a post now on Reddit by an apparent member who marched Raiders 2019 [open class I know but relevant] who had potentially serious medical issues ignored. And a different post concerning sexual abuse in Battalion 2018-21. Seems like the SoA discussion has emboldened members of other Corps to come forward.
  14. IMHO they (SoA, & perhaps DCI) are scrambling. Covid & weather are a convenient excuse. They will wait to see if the outrage dies down or goes away & if it does, carry on next month like nothing happened. If the outrage remains (as it should), they now have a few days to do the right thing (anyone on staff involved fired, new BoD, don't let ringleader members return) & perhaps salvage a season. Recall during the Hopacolypse that it took better part of 1-2 weeks for everything to sort out.
  15. All the training & policy in the world is moot if people ignore it.
  16. IDK why he wasn’t liked - all he did was kill Garfield’s drum major. (I am not making this up).
  17. Migrating to DCA would be an option, but DCA would need to tread carefully as they don’t want DCI’s problems to migrate.
  18. Let me put on my biology professor hat: I teach students that all living creatures faces adversity, and deal with this adversity in one of 3 ways- (1) Adapt (2) Migrate, or (3) Die. Drum Corps can look at an effective response to sexual assault / abuse (SAA) the same way: (1) Adapt - create & execute effective procedures to prevent SAA, and decisively remove the offender(s) if it does happen (2) Migrate - Shut down DCI & start up a new organization that has the structure and authority to address the problem. (3) Die - Loss of DCI and /or individual Corps. Die is always an option.
  19. I don't remember the names or the specific incidents, but the NFL got involved when there was video of a player striking his wife or girlfriend in an elevator. And recently, Tampa Bay Bucs fired Antonio Brown after the 'shirtless game incident'. & Jacksonville fired Urban Meyer after off-field behavior (winning only 2 games didn't help). So yes, DCI should have power to tell Corps what to do, & if Corps doesn't than DCI should have power to do it.
  20. There is a whole section of Philosophy dedicated to to this subject. Seriously. And the philosophers have a 2,500 year head start on us delving into this subject. On the other hand, a Drum Corps show titled 'Being an essentially decent human doesn't really require training, does it?' could be either wonderful or horrific depending on the approach.
  21. All true, but staff & membership needs to actually do as they were trained for the system to work. SoA had a handbook ('that all of them signed') but still didn't do the right thing. This is why, at a bare minimum, the staff that didn't act on the member's complaints need to go. And never come back.
