  1. Southwind & Memphis Blues competed in some DCM shows, but IDK if they ever were at DCM championships (a glance at DCX suggests not). But Imperial Guard from Evansville Indiana did in 81 & 82. I seem to remember red, white & black Cadet-style uniforms.
  2. I think Ohio (Glassman) & Michigan (Saginaires) were in DCM early 1980s anyway.
  3. My daughter & granddaughter made me a tie-dye face mask. I have seen a Star Wars stormtrooper helmet w/ integral face mask as well.
  4. So Brass is the brown/red line (soloists are purple), while the green is the Guard. Drums are in the blue box. The tan are the featured Guard performers.
  5. Per paragraph 3g a new date (after 1 May) will be determined by the assigned judge. There are probably lots of moving parts behind the scenes as to what cases can be wrapped up relatively quickly vs others that can't. No idea where the Case We Are All Interested In (CWAIA, pronounces KW-Eye-A) will fit in...
  6. Supposedly to keep from getting sick during winter. Seemed to be done more by older individuals when out in public, & esp on public transportation.
  7. The problem is you are using Logic to assess an inherently illogical situation.
  8. I was stationed in Japan in the early 1990s (10 yrs pre-SARS) & face masks worn by the locals was common then
  9. When developing a vaccine, part of the process is looking for antibodies in (volunteer) test subjects some months after the vaccine is administered. And it takes 6 months of waiting until you can get a 6 month data point.
  10. Whoa - what is the legal underpinning for the mask requirement? Under what law they going to fine or charge individuals who don't wear a mask? Was there legislation passed that gives the Gov't the power to criminally charge someone who is non-compliant? IIRC we had a gripe with the Gov't about 245 years ago that didn't end well for the Gov't in power at the time. I understand the idea that a mask is good, even if it doesn't do much w/r/t mitigating transmission it at least serves as a reminder that we are all in this together. But criminal charges without due process is another matter entirely. There is a very slippery slope here....
  11. Yes, time will tell. But it will take 6 months to find out what will be going on in 6 months. Hence the predictive modelling - & we did a lot of this when I was in grad school. But the thing with building models is you need good glue. And the glue is the data from prior events (in this case infectious disease outbreaks, some of which are similar to Covid-19, some not so much). There are dozens of ways to get a model wrong, but a very few ways to get it right.
  12. Yes - troops wanted to be home by Christmas. Which for the majority wasn't gonna happen. The troop ships were packed to the max (like a Corps who has had 2 busses break down). Ideal conditions for the virus to spread. And when troops got off the boat in NYC (incubating the virus) & then got on a train home, they spread it all over the country. It also hit the troops that stayed behind. Photo below the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in France with the graves of 14,246 American Soldiers (including 5 women & 2 infants; my great uncle is in the top right section). And 1/4 to 1/3 are influenza deaths. It is a STUNNINGLY beautiful place (visiting his grave was #1 on bucket list for years. I made it in 2017). People who think the federal gov't botches everything should see this place - they got it right.
  13. Completely off-topic, but it mist have been an absolute hoot to play in the orchestra making a Warners Bros. cartoon soundtrack.
  14. Pneumonia is also what ended up killing many if not most victims in 1918 pandemic - Influenza led to bacterial pneumonia, & because antibiotics hadn't been invented yet it was this that actually killed them.
  15. Perhaps I should rephrase it to '....put the show on the road' ?
  16. The key to a lot of this will be the number of individuals who came down with Covid-19 in a mild or subclinical form, and have developed antibodies. These individuals are, in effect, vaccinated (in the 18th Century it was recognized that mild infections could prevent smallpox, and many were inoculated. There are surviving letters from John Adams to his wife Abigail discussing whether they should have it done to their children (he had it done in Philadelphia while he was at one of the Continental Congress meetings). Edward Jenner later refined the technique. Individuals surviving an infection & then being resistant has been how the human population has survived over eons. When enough are immune, the virus finds it difficult to obtain a susceptible host and dies out (when this happens in livestock it is called 'herd immunity'). And it will work here. It will just take time.
  17. The show is the least of the issues. The problem is with the logistics required to put the show on the road for 2 months.
  18. Me too. I have never been older than I am right now. & I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.
  19. Actually, I have a feeling that the test will show that many more Americans have been infected than came down with symptoms / signs of Covid-19. Studies will show whether my hunch is correct. Also, remember that >98% of individuals currently diagnosed survive the infection.
  20. I think there are 2 parts here. W/R/T individuals that are accused & are dead, well, the Catholic Church still reports to law enforcement, and if deemed credible (however that is determined) publishes the names of the accused as there may still be other victims still living. Concerning individuals accused (at some level), but no longer involved in Drum Corps, that is a more dicey issue. The individual who we are thinking about here (but not naming) has indeed fallen off the planet w/r/t Drum Corps. I have no idea of what they are doing now.
  21. Why do they need to come forward publicly? Shouldn't a call to the aforementioned DCI hotline suffice?
